Is there anyone who wanted SP to be the next coach

Is Payton the one calling the offensive plays in NO or does he have a coordinator?

He has an OC Doug Marrone but I would think Payton calls the plays. One guy who deserves some credit for lastnights game was our former LB coach Gary Gibbs who is the DC for the saints. His unit did a great job shutting down the Alt. running game

Just curious what many thought about what SP is doing in New Orleans and at any point did you want SP to be the next coach of the Cowboys... For some reason I think this could be the last year for BP, he doesn't look to well as far as his health... It's highly doubtful that SP could leave New Orleans, so who do you think would replace BP once he is gone...

Houston has to be kicking themselves for not drafting Bush, not to mention all of those teams who passed on Drew Brees...

I did and still do want SP as the next Cowboys head coach. I still think it may be possible.

If he can continue to win in New Orleans I'm sure Benson will do what ever he has to too keep Payton

Does anyone really think that Payton wouldn't jump at the chance to move from HC of the Saints to HC of the Cowboys.
That's like being the coach of the Minnesota Twins and Steinbrenner calls you and asks you to coach the Yankees...
In fact, if that happened, I would feel a lot BETTER about it because Payton now will have HC experience on his resume.

Is this like every free agent is just waiting in line to sign with the Cowboys?
I doubt anyone will jump their ship just to sign with us.

I wish we could have kept SP.

Well lets not crown him the next Lombardi just yet.

In this day and age, unless you're an entirely clueless organization, winning and losing is as much about who you play and when you play them as anything else. See our 5-1 start with QC and T-Ham in '03.

Yeah SP has them off to a nice start against a couple lesser teams and a decent team last night. But because of the extinuating circumstances last night I'm not so sure they wouldnt have beaten the '92-95 Cowboys team in that game. Afterall it's not like that team went undefeated in any of those years or didnt sometimes struggle in particular regular season games for whatever reasons.

I imagine last night the Saints just wanted it a heck of a lot more than the Falcons did.. and that goes man for man, not just cause SP was the coach.

I'd rather have Payton than Zimmer.

Any day of the week. I just don't have the same confidence in Zimmer that Jerry Jones just overflows with. Great defenses mae adjustments that confound their opponents. The Cowboys approach hardly seems to vary in any significant way from opponent to opponent. I doubt Dallas is so talented that they couldn't benefit from it.

DeMarcus Ware and Roy Williams should be featured by the defense, instead they support other players at times. If you ask me, no one on the defense can do it all as well as Williams and no one can rush the passer like Ware-- so why aren't they featured on every down?

Agreed, Gibbs was a Parcells cast off. Look what he's doing with little talent. Makes me go Hummm....AGAIN!

The only way to get quality assistant coaches is by allowing them to advance in the league. I hated the fact we lost both Payton and Gibbs but it says a lot about Parcells that members of his staff are though of highly and encourages other promising coaches to come to Dallas.

Good point. Yes Payton is doing well so far, but 3 games into the season is not nearly enough to judge by. If the Saints have a winning record and contend for a playoff spot then Payton will have earned his keep.

How?

If he's offered a HC job, you have to either let him go, give him our HC spot, or deny him permission to go, which all but guarantees you will never attract quality assistants in the future.

I like Sean, but as much as some would relish it I'm certainly not ready to oust Parcells for a rookie coach just yet.

I thought Payton was a great hire by Parcells in 2002 and I wouldn't have minded him taking over for Parcells when he retired.

He's done a great job in New Orleans ... much better than Parcells' other young offensive mind. The adjective "embattled" is so often placed in front of Maurice Carthon's name that I wouldn't be surprised to see it listed as part of his name in the team's program.

A lot of knee-jerk reactions over Payton now. The Saints are running on emotion right now. In the end, they'll still be a sub .500 team.

I do like SP though.

Where I do agree with you on that point that he hasn't coached enough games he has coached under Parcells... Just look around the league, and you will find many good solid coaches who coached under one of the better coaches of all times... I'm sure he's gained alot of wisdom from BP not to mention ways to improve on what he's learned...

Take the Patriots coach for example, I have no doubt that his assistants will do a great job... Because they learned from one of the best... I have no doubt that SP will do the same... Infact simuliar to the Patriots coach will have better success...

Emotion only carry you for the 1st part of a game it still comes down to execution and Payton has his guys playing good football. It would be knee jerk to say they are playoff bound or super bowl bound but given how poor the saints have been for a while now this team is playing some pretty good football.

Right. And maybe they will.. who knows.

All I know is the odds of them being 3-0 if they would've started with say the Giants schedule instead of their own would be slim and none.

They might well be 0-3 and we wouldnt be having this conversation.

Then again who is to say who the good teams are this year? It is early in the season. I doubt many felt Carolina would be 1-2 and Tampa would be 0-3. Not many were giving the Saints much of a chance heading into lastnights game and not only did they win they did so in a convincing manner.

Come on now you can only play who is on your schedule... Look at the Eagles; Texans, 49'ers and Packers in 3 of the first 4 games...

The saints already have alot of our players like a minor league team, now we want them to train a coach for us, lol.

This is true as well, although history is generally a decent indicator. I expect Carolina to rebound somewhat.

Regardless, I was glad to see Payton do well - I think Cowboy fans gave him too much undeserved grief for handling the offense just as Parcells wanted him to.
