Is there something wrong with us?

It's your team. It's a childhood thing. Not many people find their team as adults. But every adult has to at some point realize that, "their team," just plays a game. It's exciting to watch and hope your team does well, but it's just a game in the end.

If it's affecting your life more than that, then yeah, I would suggest taking a step back.

I agree but as a 30+ year fan, only the last 7-10 years I've been able to keep it in perspective. Man, there was a time I had a real case of Monday morning blues after every loss. Would take at least a couple of days to recoup. Nowhere near an issue now but I will say, this loss Sunday has stung harder than any loss over the last 3-4 years. What's funny, it's not that they lost but HOW they lost. The biggest game of the year, they played it like a preseason IMO. Even with all boxes checked in their favor, they didn't compete........that's been the toughest pill for me to swallow.

Albert Einstein said: "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results." Hawk, after all the complaining, we keep rooting, we always have hope....so it's safe to say after 25+ YEARS...that many of us are insane. :p

Oh, you are the epitome of a Battered Woman, Streif, and don't worry, we ALL are. LOL

"Why didn't you leave, Streif?"

"Because I said "Til death do us part'. I'm loyal. No matter HOW bad it gets, no matter how many broken ribs and black eyes, I keep coming back because I love him. And I'm holding out hope that one day, we'll recapture the magic, from 25 years ago, when we had our best times."

:banghead:

:D
Oh boy, this allegory makes me think. I always said that the women who get beat up once should report this to the police immediately and get the ******* locked up. The women who let this happen twice just deserve the idiot living with them.

Soooo, I'd rather call it my guilty pleasure. The catastrophy called Cowboys Fandom is just something I can't get rid of, and every win, no matter who lucky / crappy it was gets my hopes up again. Call that stupid, I'd call it a soft addiction lol. :D

And we keep getting punk'd, bullied and manhandled, and we know it, and complain about it weekly, and STILL we remain, after 25+ years (for some of us).

We need collective help. We all need to lay on the couch and "be heard". :p
Bingo! That's it!! This loss has name-calling and downright anger for some on this board. Wuu-sa!

Call it what you want...just know that we all "deserve that idiot living with us." :D

Now that the team has reached a new low for many of us, by complaining about the refs after a playoff loss, when they simply should have been more disciplined (half the penalties were pre-snap). And of course they just needed to play better too, every single one of them (except for maybe the Special Teams which had a good day)... Anyway, now that the Cowboys as an organization is sinking lower in many of our eyes, it's time to ask, why are we still fans???

Many (or, most) of us:

*hate the longtime owner
*don't want the QB (and some downright dislike the QB)
*hate the culture
*don't trust most of the coordinators
*dislike Jerry's World (the stadium)
*don't even like many of the players (thank goodness for Micah, as he's a unanimous favorite, but no one else is)
*AND most of us don't live anywhere near Dallas

....yet, we're still fans of this team??? Why do we bleed blue and grey???? For nostalgia???? Do we just adore The Star but almost nothing else about the present Cowboys?

Honestly, have we lost our minds, to put ourselves through this frustration year after year, for an owner, organization and team we don't even like???

I'm starting to think we're all just mentally ill.
Times like this will only make the good times in the future even better.

Things will get better. I believe that. Even if it's just Jerry dumb lucking his way into something.

I think a big problem rooting for this team is it’s hard to enjoy anything. If this season happened for the Jaguars they’d be thrilled. For us, the entire year we just hear how well blow it in the postseason.
They had a historic beat down of the Commanders wherein everyone was scoring. that should have felt better than it did.

Realize it's just a game and a form of entertainment. It's ultimately insignificant to the state of your life/wellbeing, and you have no control over it.

Enjoy it for what it is, but don't let it stress you out or make you upset.

Once you do that, you'll be good.

A long time ago, someone said something that really struck home. In today's era where players move around as do coaches quite frequently, you are really just rooting for laundry.

Unfortunately, I have nostalgic ties to that laundry so I can't stop myself. Its impossible for me to change favorite teams in any sport. That said, I can drastically dial down my interest. I have done so in the past with the Cowboys. Next few years look like a serious downturn for the organization and I probably won't be going out of my way to watch every game, won't be buying jerseys, etc.

Jerry does feel it when the fanbase turns off. Its why he fired Garrett recently and hired Parcells so long ago.

You nailed it with adoring the Star. That's it for me. I have too many memories as a kid to quit. I just hope I outlive Jerry and Stephen and will get to see this team be successful before I die.

I’ve been a Cowboys fan since I was 8 years old. My dads side of the family was die hard Commanders fans and that’s all I heard about. As a kid I couldn’t understand why people would pick Commanders over Cowboys! When you played it was always the Cowboys beating the Indians. Traitors!
Over the years the hatred for the Commanders has gone down a little and the hatred for the beagles have grown big time. Living in PA and right next to beagle fans, I just can’t stand looking at that putrid green flag.
I believe the hatred for the other teams in the division has kept me a Cowboys fan for 45+ years. Sad.
I don’t even bother with hating on the midgets
because they are so horrible.
I believe the younger generation lives in this “ I want it now attitude and they just don’t put in the work. They think they are entitled to it because they are told they are great there whole life. You will never see any more dynasties because they are just worried about the dollar.
Each year I watch less and less of football and I care less about it. It used to be a time a loss would ruin my week but now it’s no big deal. The players go home multi- millionaires and don’t care , why should I.

So, MB4, it's time we look ourselves in the mirror and ask, "Why are we rooting for a team when the WINS don't even feel all that good any more???"

Maybe...Stockholm syndrome is a psychological response. It occurs when hostages or abuse victims bond with their captors or abusers. This psychological connection develops over the course of the days, weeks, months, or even years of captivity or abuse. :(

Yes, but it does it feel good? Does being a Cowboys fan feel good? When others crap all over our owner, our organization, our secondary, our OC, our HC, do we even defend The Star? Or do we just agree?

What the hell are we suffering through this for??? Nostalgia? Hope? It's maddening when you really think about it.

History, the simple answer. I have too much history to walk away.

In order to remain a fan, I had to decide to avoid any exposure to the Joneses except what I get here.

But what has helped the most was when I was able to separate my ego from the team and view this as nothing more than a hobby.

The truth is I am far more attached to this site and it’s members than I am the team. It was the same at the old site. I am not even sure I would not still be a fan without this.

This thread is an example. Are we nuts? No, just fans and we know others that share our frustrations because we are still here.

We love something that does not love us back but we continue to show unconditional love for it. Nothing wrong with loyalty as long as we are ok with unrequited love.

Idk, it's crazy but it's just the way it is. I no longer enjoy the wins as much as I use to and I no longer take the losses as hard as I use to. A loss use to damn near ruin my week, that all changed back in 2010 when I saw the team quit on Wade, I remember thinking to myself, why am I taking losses so hard when they don't care? I'm still a big fan, just no longer on that emotional rollercoaster anymore, the last time I really pisses at a loss was the 2016 playoff loss.

I was born with a star on my forehead, I never had a choice.
