If you was to look at our current roster, you could find multiple young players to root for. Or should I say, You can easily find several players to be this years 'pet cat'. And this is reinforced by the fact that our Boy's seem to find a productive Undrafted player every year. The notables include: Cole Beasley, Barry Church, Dan Bailey, Ronald Leary, Tony Romo, and Lucky (13) Whitehead looks to be a nice replacement for Dwayne Harris this year. I hope to see my 'pet cat' added to this list soon. I'm talking about the 2014 Southland Conference player of the Year and four-time All American Gus Johnson.
I know I'll surely get a few eye rolls for suggesting that Gus is even going to make the roster, But I believe (or hope) he has a real shot at making the team. I realize critics will point out his 3,892 yards & 51 TDs was against lesser competition. Then, I'll point out that Cole Beasley can't be stopped in training camp and he came from SMU. Unlike Lache Seatrunk, Gus hasn't bounced around the league. This is his first taste of the NFL. For what its worth, Bryan Broaddus has noticed too..
"7) Gus Johnson is catching my eye more than Lache Seastrunk at this point. There are one or two snaps a practice where I am no longer looking down at my roster and wondering who that running back is. Johnson is looking more complete in the snaps he has received -- whether that's carrying the ball, receiving out of the backfield or understanding where he needs to be in the blitz pickup. Johnson has not looked out of place at all."
At 5'10" 224lbs, Gus has the build. His 26rep on the bench at this years combine displays his strength. He has tree trunks for legs, rarely fumbles the ball, and best of all.. is always on the field. Durability is not a concern like the ump-teen other RB options folks have suggested throughout this offseason. If you want to see him against NFL competition, look no further than the Goal line work yesterday. With McFadden and Dunbar sidelined, Randle and Seastrunk watched Gus & Co. dominate the defense several times. Their are a lot of people that discount how much our OL contributes to the running game, but its easy to see. Gus handled most of (if not all) the Goal line carries with success. I must emphasize, our football team doesn't have to have the "BEST" runningback in the league to be successful. All we need is a sure-handed, durable, strong RB that will follow behind some great blocking with above average vision. I believe Gus has all of the above. Watch Link:

I've included another link that is a good read.

A snip from the article:
"Just to emphasize how outstanding that age-19 season was, if I filter my database for 19 year old runners, who weigh more than 210 pounds and had similar production to Gus Johnson, I get Cedric Benson, Kevin Smith, Marcus Lattimore, Gurley, Maurice Clarett and Knile Davis. Basically, to be as good as Johnson was at 19 and then sustain it through the remainder of his career is pretty unique"
There are a couple names on this list that a think a few of us wouldn't mind being on the team. He is definitely a long shot I know, but the sky is the limit for this Texas kid. He is my 'pet cat' this year. With all the talk about the RB position this offseason, It would be wonderful for Dallas to hit on another undrafted skill-position player. 'm hoping for the best him this year and can definitely see him collecting those "dirty" yards this year.
Thank you for reading and GO COWBOYS!!
