Is this years team right back to 2014 status?

I certainly hope not, because it's 2016 not 2014. Anyone thinking there is a "formula" for winning sounds like a good captain of an 8-8 ship. You need to be ahead of the curve, not behind it clinging to the past.

Are you really arguing that Seattle won a title with a dynamic passing game? That team won with Lynch and defense.

Dallas has an infinitely better passing game than Seattle with Romo right now. And yes, Elliott just made it even better because he's an excellent pass protector and receiver.

Russell Wilson has a career 101.8 QB rating with a lowest QB rating of 95.0.

When Romo puts up those numbers and anybody questions him as a QB, they become apoplectic.

Meanwhile here's a look at SEA's QB Rating allowed the past 4 seasons:

2012: 71.8
2013: 63.4
2014: 80.4
2015: 78.1

They won because they clearly won the passing game battle.

Dallas has shown the ability to pass the ball with Romo, but we can't stop the pass. So our solution is to draft a RB.

Brilliant.

Not an exact return to 2014.

I don't think Elliott will be used as hard as Murray.

Elliott may not even be the starter to begin the season.

Giving the guy 400 carries will simply burn him out like it did Murray in 2015. I think you're going to see him settle in around 250 carries and around 40 receptions.

The other 250 carries will be split between McFadden and Morris.

Elliott won't need 400 carries because he can finish his runs. Murray couldn't.

Dallas is an elite d-line away from being a SB contender.

Lawrence, Gregory, Thornton, and yes Hardy can be the starting rushmen, and we need help from the draft to solidify it. If we can assemble a line with
6 solid starters, along with a blitzing RoMac & Lee, we will have a disruptive D and THAT is what we need.

No because you don't know if Romo is capable of an elite level 2016. You also need some luck.

It makes it possible though. It wasn't possible with McFadden or Morris.

No because the defense was better in 2014 than it is now.

Was it?

And I'm not being a jerk about asking that considering Lee missed the entire season and he is IMO the best defensive player on the club. Even missing 4 games, Lawrence is going to be more productive than he was in 2014.

And there was no worse DT in the NFL than the guy who WON'T be on this club this season.

Get a pass rusher in round 2 and this is not a dreg of the earth defense.

Not it's OK but too many questions. No depth and people coming off injuries.

Great post.

Seattle has a highly efficient passing game.

Their QB, Russell Wilson, is the 2nd highest rated QB (by passer rating) in NFL history.

They've won a ton of games due to their QB rating passing differential.

Look at EE's SPARQ scores. He's not Troy Hambrick, but he isn't even in the same galaxy as an Adrian Peterson.

YR

You're not happy with the pick. I'm sure you'll be proven wrong barring injury and I'm apologizing now for the future gloating. :)

I'd be interested to see his sparq scores and compare to others. I'm surprised they're low. He'll be the one to break that mold.

Injuries are part of the point. It's a position that is very injury prone. Let's look at our last 4 tailbacks.

Murray - oft-injured player throughout his career.

DMC - oft-injured player throughout his career.

Dunbar - Oft-injured player throughout his career

Randle - no longer in the league.

Morris - has slowed down dramatically as the game has taken its toll on him.

Now we just expect EE to go in, gain 1,500+ yards with 12+ TD's like it's no big deal.

And I keep hearing that the Cowboys staff looks at him like he's a defensive player. If that's the case, fire the entire scouting department right now. They are as dumb as it gets.

Nope.

Asking your RB to gain 1,800+ yards rushing in his rookie year is outrageous. And it's all for not if Romo isn't sharp. Given his age and the injuries, optimistic to think he will as sharp as he was in 2014.

YR

No.

not until backup QB is addressed.

we need to improve on 2014..not match it.

On paper, yes. Elliot and Morris combined are potentially better than Murray/Randle in '14. Best case scenario, Elliot is as good as expected, pairing him with Morris in reserve forms a powerful duo.

Obviously Romo and Dez have to stay healthy.

The defense on paper is at worst a wash.

Again, on paper. We'll see when the games start.

We got lucky in 2014 beating the lions and eventually lost to Green Bay with a hobbled Aaron Rodgers. Have we improved enough to beat a healthy Aaron Rodgers with two good legs? Has our dline improved enough to get pressure and sacks on the opposing qbs esp in playoff scenarios? Has romos and wittens skills declined since 2014? Eventually time catches up to us all.
