but does ANYONE care to answer me on how defenses are going to be able to stop Witten from controlling the middle of the field?

I mean I watch these Witten and it's like everytime he catches the ball hes just completely wide open like nobody can even keep up with him

I mean Witten IS A BEAST

just throw the ball his way an he will find a way to catch it

I can't understand how he get so wide open on big downs - it amazes me

well Troy had Novacek

Romo has Witten

i don't understand either. he is extremely slow, yet he is always wide open.

No that was Jay.

My brother used to say, "Novacek is the slowest man in the NFL and always wide open."

He's slow. Not extremely. But he's rather slow. At least it looks like it. You know see him break a 60 yarder. He's still the best TE in the league though.

Witten isn't slow .. he's just not super fast. However, what Witten does very well that few other tight-ends do well is that he sells his fakes until the last moment and cuts cleanly and quickly when he makes his cuts. Most other tight-ends curve on their cuts or at the very least pause briefly before cutting.

The best players are not always the most athletic or the fastest .. the best players tend to be smart and consistent.

Look at where Romo throws the ball when he goes to Witten. These guys are exactly on the same page on most plays. So, Romo looks at Witten and sees where he is in relation to the defender. Romo simply throws the ball where only Witten will have a chance to grab it. Because Witten has excellent hands, 9 times out of 10 its a completion.

Witten doesn't need extreme seperation. He is playing against line backers and safeties. He just needs a chance to make a play on the ball.

Witten isn't slow, by any means, but he runs great routes and just knows how to get open.

I don't know if he's the best TE ever yet, I'd think he has a ways to go yet to get there, but if he continues at this pace for a few more years he'll certainly be in the conversation for it. The guy is just amazing.

Definitely one of the best that has ever done it.

Best ever...Not so sure about that just yet, guys like Bavaro, Gonzalez, and a few others may have a say with regards to that top spot.

We have two players bound for Canton. Witten and Ware, and it would be a shame if they never won a ring.

Tony Gonzalez is the best TE ever. Witten is the best in the NFL right now though. Not a doubt in my mind about that.

I would agree with this. However, when Witten's career is over, I wouldn't be surprised in the least to have him be considered by some to be the best TE ever.

If he can keep up consistently sure they would. Gonzalez has been amazing for a long time. It can't be denied.

Better than John Mackey? I question that.

Mackey is in my top 5, but yes. Gonzalez is the best I have ever seen.

I agree.

On a side note, Hos can I use that ribbon as my sig here ? I know this is the wrong thread, but back in the day when I first started posting here Pops was one of the first people along with Sarge that I would see on here with my random hours regularly for being on the East coast.

Yes. WG made it for anyone who wanted to use it. For the first time since I started posting on a Cowboys forum my sig doesn't have the word Peace in it. It's still there though because Pops was peace.
