Isaiah Land keeps showing up

I'd go that way, too, but I would hate to send James through waivers this early in his career. Of course, I'd hate that with Barron, too, but at least he's made it to the PS before.
I’ll take my chances with James. He hasn’t shown me enough to be worried about losing him.

That’s pretty much exactly what they did last year

Here was 53 man cut down 2025
Edge: 6
DT: 5
LB: 5
S: 4
CB: 6
I’ll be mildly surprised if we don’t go a bit longer at safety than 4.

When you say 5 or 6, you mean OLB?
I have Miller pushing Houston off the roster.

I have them keeping 5 OLB right now, and Williams being one of them.
Houston has demonstrated his effectiveness last year in the regular season and has been making plays in camp.

I’m surprised you have him cut. I think he’s a lock. Until Miller, he was the first edge off the bench and Gary’s backup.

Downs isn’t even a safety on the depth chart so if you count him, you’re likely right

Thompson
Hooker
Locke
Childress

Absolutely, I have seen a fringe player turn into a Pro Bowl star.

I'm not talking about a shockingly great rookie 3rd day pick or free agent. I'm talking about a player that has been in the league for a couple of year that barely hung on to a 53 man roster.

In these particular cases, nobody saw it coming. At some point it just clicked and they stared to ball out.

In fact, this is the story of the Cowboys 90s team, the left side of their legendary offensive line.

Both Nate Newton and Mark Tuinei were undrafted free agents.

Nate Newton's early career was all about dealing with his weight and the coach's insisting that he must reduce or face getting cut. He was seen as nothing more than a possible backup.

Then Jimmy Johnson came along. He could care less about the weight, he wanted monsters on the O-line. Jimmy realized Nate's athleticism. At 350 pounds, he could still dunk a basketball.

Mark Tuinei came into the league as a possible backup DT. In fact, he has a recorded NFL sack. In his 4th season, injuries forced Tom Landry to start him for 11 games. That was 1986.

However, once again, Jimmy came in 1989 and Tuinei was the starter that year. He started through 8 seasons, including 3 Super Bowls.

Both of these guys weren't instant phenoms. It's not like the whole league missed their talent. It was hard work and perseverance that eventually led them to NFL fame. They were just able to stick around for their first few years.

Towards the end of Witten's TE career, the Cowboys were desperately looking for a replacement. They drafted 3 TEs in th 2nd round and they didn't work out. They had a bunch of guys like Geoff Swaim, James Hanna, Blake Jarwin, and Rico Gathers. Nobody really liked Dalton Schultz.

I remember all the "cut him" posts on this forum. He wasn't exactly lighting the world on fire his first few seasons. He had 13 receptions his first two years.

In 2020 Schultz exploded to the point where the Cowboys couldn't afford him. He had over 80 receptions last season for the Texans.

It can happen. I'm not saying it will, but it could happen for Isaiah Land. Considering he is a LB, it couldn't come at a better time for the Cowboys.

I have him cut because I feel he and Miller are the same player.
I like him, it would be great to keep both. But who goes because of them.
Both are likely to be here for this year, then will be gone.

So you have a young player that could take over for them in a year. But they can't, because they will be on another team.

That is my straight forward opinion.

think i would rather try and trade sam for someones backup OT they think wont make it to PS. we in desperate need of OT depth.
Sam Williams has no trade value.

Every team has several bubble edge in training camp. Teams with a much better pass rush than Sam Williams

He might make the roster but it will be because we have no one better

Whose spot will he take?

Fangio’s Eagles carried five edges last year, as did the Clowboys, although there were a few weeks where each had six but I think that was usually due someone being inactive due to injury

Left OLB: Gary, Houston
Right OLB: Eze, Miller
Rotational: Lawrence

Cut: Williams, Land, Liufau, Wheat

They already might have to stretch the WR room. Can’t carry extra bodies in every group.
I’d keep Land over Houston.

im proposing offering Sam for someones 5th OT that wont make the team. you making it sound like i said go trade williams for a starting RT lol.

The cowboys will have to go six deep at edge and cut Liufau, Williams and Wheat

I’m down for it if the spot is available but I think Williams had the edge going into camp. I’ve never been a fan of Liufau and at least if Williams was gone, people around here could find someone else to dogpile every day.

I’d keep Land over Houston.
People disregarding James Houston is wild. Currently, he’s our fourth best pass rusher. He’s only below Lawrence on the depth chart because of the investment but he’s been the first edge rotating in

In the clips I could find from today's scrimmage with the Saints, Land had at least one sack, possibly two.

That follows two sacks in the scrimmage with the Rams, and one and another pressure in the preseason game against the Seahawks.

Maybe it's just the fact that he's better than other teams' backup linemen, but he's looking like he belongs on the roster.
This is where Jerry Dumbo GM Jones will make the wrong decision again. FAMU gave him 2 good football players. He moved one way out of position to LB and exposed the other to go to another team.

He keeps signing old veterans instead of letting young lions attack and eat.
