It Was Fun While It Lasted

Honestly fellas, when I look at this team with non-biased eyes, I'm not liking what I'm seeing...

QB - We're good, Romo is a top-five QB (I don't care what anyone says) and we have one of the better backups in the league
AGREE
WR - happy with starters, but ZERO depth now
MILES & DEZ will probably be the best WR tantum in the league..Ogletree might just show us something.
You forget TE - Witten (if not the best TE in the game easily top 5) Bennett & Phillips..despite everyone's dislike of Bennett he does what's asked of him..I've seen him drop only pass..Phillips will be good in the Hback position.
RBs - Not bad, not great. Decent depth with the rook.
Felix Jones not only has the ability to take it home every running play, he's also a big threat coming out the back field in the passing game..DeMarrco Murray is the All Time leader in TD for Oklahoma (Adrian Peterson did go to OU too)..
O-Line - What's to be excited about? We were pretty bad last year, horrific in the run game, and we simply retained some of our guys. Tyron Smith? This guy looks like a bust to me. At any rate, he's a rook.
Disagree..We got Free, Kosier, Gurode (Pro Bowler) and a Tyron Smith..wondering how he looks like a bust??? What do bust look like? He might just come in and be a really great RT this year..
D-Line - We just lost Bowen. We are weaker than we were last year...and we sucked last year
Disagree..Bowen was basically a back up..had Spears not been hurt he wouldn't have started..hopefully we sign Spears..he is very underrated..Jay Ratliff is a Pro Bowler..Igor is serviceable..back ups Brent and Lissemore look promising..
Linebackers -- How Brooking still has a job on this team, I have no idea. Speaks to how little we have behind him moreso than his actual effectiveness, he is OLD and is showing every bit of it. D-Ware, Spencer, fine.
We have the best pass rusher in the game in Ware..Spencer will be fine..he does what he's suppose to do..Bradie James is underrated..Brookings is old but Sean Lee looks like he might just be a really good LB for us and replace Brookings..Carter looks promising as well..
D-Backs -- Lost cause, one of the worst units in the NFL as it currently stands. Newman and Jenkins can't cover, our safeties can't cover nor can they support the run. But other than that, they're fine.
Safeties were terrible and CB weren't much better. However, you must remember TNew and Jenkins are a year removed from being in the Pro Bowl..Jenkins is young and is a good CB..TNew is one of the best CB in the game when he's not playing injured..ScanO is a decent backup at CB..Safety well hopefully we can get one or two guys in or we my have to see what AOA (which i'm anxious about) and Church can do as starters, but i'm sure we will address safety via Free Agency..
Special Teams -- Our kicker blows. He can kick them into the endzone on kickoffs, but does anyone really have any faith in this guy when it comes to a pressure kick?
We have one of the best punters in the game point blank..Buehler wasn't as bad as everyone on here puts on..not many kickers go 100% during the season..

Should be a great 2011!

Considering how we lost games last year all but 2 under 7pts. I believe we have a good year..

Zero separation. He has always used his body well to shield defenders but those defenders have been getting closer and closer the last two years and Romo's window is getting tighter and tighter. You have to darn near throw it in a window the size of a mailbox opening now for Witten to come up with it.

You mean like what's between you and your inflatable doll right now?

Let's see

  • QB: Rock solid with Romo and Kitna and Mcgee at 3...and of course we will be better b/c they are healthy. Upgrade
  • WR: One of the best tandems in the league with Miles and Dez. They will add a player too, even if Harris pans out.
  • TE: awesome
  • O-Line: spent a 1st round pick on Tyron and and now have secured bookend tackles for the next 6-10 years. Re-signed Kosier and drafted two others. Also will sign someone. Upgrade
  • D-line: We will sign someone (maybe even Jenkins!) to go with a probowler and solid player up fron.
  • Linebacker: maybe the best OLB in the game in Ware. Spencer is decent...and hopefully 2nd rd pick Carter will lend a hand later this year. The inside will be better if Lee can come on strong.
  • DBs: Two good but not great corners, but they have to land a saftey in free agency..so we'll see. I know we will bring in some secondary help...count on it.
  • Special teams: best punter in football. Many good return men. A coach that will assre that we focus on ST. A kicker that will lead the league in touchbacks but must improve his accruacy or lose his job.
  • Coaching/leadership: we upgraded
So I'm not sure what all the crying is about. We have a TON to look forward to.

1. Watch the vid, watch it. Pushing a slanting d-lineman in the same direction he was already going isn't hard, it certainly shouldn't be on a highlight reel. He looks like he plays way too upright, a guy like Orakpo is going to *****' bullrush and maul this guy.

2. Actually, we are barely removed from being a six-win team. Did we play better in the second half? Absolutely, but you are what your record says.

3. Yes, I'm very happy with Dez and Miles. But what else? Witten is really starting to look old to me, fellas. He hasn't dropped off the cliff like MBIII did, but I'm starting to see some really disturbing signs.

4. I'm very excited about this coaching staff. It is the one thing that gives me a glimmer of hope. I think Garrett is going to be a hell of a head coach, but talent wins in this league and we're just really, really average.

This is the trap that is so easy to fall into.

Yes, you are what your record says you are, at the end of your season. That's why they keep score and at the end of 16 games you're either going home or moving on, on merit.

But for the purpose of projecting the furture prospects of a team, it's not the end all be all. 100 different ways to attain a 6-10 record. Do you honestly believe the Commanders have a remote chance to finish ahead of the Cowboys this season?

I guess the Cowboys should have not bothered scouting T and and wasting all that time when they could have clicked the video next to his name and got all the information needed like you did. Maybe with that $ saved we could have gotten a big name FA. Kudos man!

No, I'm very good at that, just watching a few seconds of a guy play tells me all I need to know. Am I perfect? No, but pretty close. Let me know which of the top rooks you want an eval on and I'll give it to you. Here's a couple...

1. Jake Locker is the best QB in this draft. I like Cam Newton's form but watch his vid. Anytime he starts to run downfield, he stops looking for his receivers, he just runs. As a top-flight QB, you need to be AWARE. Continuing to look downfield for receivers after a play has broken down is one fo the toughest things for a QB to do. But one's inability to do so it also one of the most telling factors in prognosticating their success at the next level. Cam doesn't have it, Locker does.

2. Both A.J. Green and Julio Jones are going to be pretty darn good receivers, but Julio will come out on top as the best of this draft class.

3. I think Denver will regret passing up on both Dareus and Fairley, both of those guys are going to be more dominant players than Von Miller.

But good news, Prince Amukamara blows.

You guys SERIOUSLY have to justify the team to this confused poster? Really?

The time Ive seen spent defending Dallas to them is sad.

You guys are better than this. Let this thread die now, for GOSH SAKES.

I don't know. He's got that special knowledge of the future thing.

If we keep him going long enough, maybe he'll give us the Powerball numbers for Saturday's drawing.

EDIT: Ahead of time.

Well since you called me a liar ....... explain these.

Garrett Needs to Go

Should We Start Thinking About Getting the #1 Pick in the Draft?

http://cowboyszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=192705

First off, the second post was clearly tongue-in-cheek and simply meant to get a reaction out of guys like you. The first one was prior to Garrett being named head coach. The offense was full of woe, there was confusion, the playcalling was bad. But obviously more of a symptom of Camp Cupcake and Wade's ridiculously high level of tolerance for stupidity. I have been one of Garrett's biggest supporters, I think the delayed handoff technique he taught Romo is one of the more innovative moves on offense the league has seen in awhile.

I realize that we have many other pressing holes to fill, but the WR position is scaring me. Miles and Dez are awesome but both of those guys get hurt quite often. What are The Boys gonna do if one or both of those guys go down for an extended period of time? Look at the players we have behind those two: Kevin Ogletree regressed big time last year, Dwayne Harris is a rookie, Manny Johnson is a PS guy at best, Teddy Williams is just an athlete and not really a complete WR at this point, and finally we have Jesse Holley........nuff said. If The Boys don't go out and get another receiver they will be SCREWED.

So you went from wanting him fired as OC too always believing in him as head coach.

I hope that excuse sounded better in your head than it does out here.

He said he watched one highlight reel on the internet and decided he wasn't impressed.

I believe this qualifies him to be a scout in the Raiders organization.

Watching football videos is above and beyond the call of duty in Raiders organization. There, you just need to show up at a prospect's Pro Day with a stopwatch -- it will tell you all you need to know about him. If there aren't any Pro Days to attend that day, you can scout a track meet instead.

My point (missed obvoiusly) is that it takes more that watching a few videos to evaluate a player no matter how 'good' you might think you are at it. Every armchair GM/scout thinks hes smarter than the people who get paid to do it.

Dallas should have signed Jabar Gaffney, and Kellen Clemmons while they had the chance...

;)

See Mike Vick as exhibit A for someone who, early in his career, never looked down field once he took off but now is very good at doing it.

Now as for your point that Cam may not be so hot...none of us really know that one. You may be right.

I don't think there's much argument against the statement that we appear to have less talent currently than last year. But it's still too early to hit the panic button.

No, but because of one position only. QB. And I fully agree, all kinds of ways to get to 6-10. If this was a young team who looked like they were really starting to "get it," then the record wouldn't be so bad. But we're not. We are getting old at some key positions (Brooking, Newman and Witten), regressed horribly at others (read Jenkins and Spencer), and are very average at others.
