I was basing my opinion on the available salary cap situation the Cowboys will be in. With plenty to spend we will keep that many more. But your point is very valid in that players will have increased value of themselves should the Cowboys win it all. But, Stephen won't allow Jerry to have the checkbook. Ha!

I don't think that they'll simply spend money just to spend it.

Looking at this list, they've set themselves up nicely for the long haul. No need to screw that's up now.

There may be names brought back, but it will be on Dallas' terms, like they've done with guys like McFadden and Moore.

I see two possible big money deals in Collins and Irving, and maybe a medium deal for a guy like Cooper.

The rest look like take it or leave it guys.

Some of you need to lighten up. Thanks @Texas_Pete for this great info. I was wondering about this the other day, but never got around to looking it up.
Much appreciated.
For those that say play the season and all of that garbage, if it doesn't interest you, then move on, don't respond wasting time for those that do care, of reading your garbage post.

I am pretty sure, matter of fact I would bet my house on it, that the team does look ahead at these scenarios. Yes it may seem trivial to some, but to others it is nice info to know.

We had 21 players last year, and we retained 6 of them, 4 are still unsigned any where. We let 11 players sign somewhere else, and signed 4 from other teams. Drafted 9.

So if about the same happens next year, then we will still be a better team. As players on this list, well most of them, their replacement is here as depth, or will be drafted next year.
Yes it is good to look ahead. Weren't many of you always looking ahead to find Tony's replacement...until it happened last year....

Or we increase the overall talent of our DL..

With the emergence of Irving and Collins, I would take this DL over 2015 any day.

I just know that the one decent year that Demarcus Lawrence had was the result of Greg Hardy pulling offense's attention and blocking to the other side. Marinelli himself said so.

He hasn't come close to duplicating anything close to that level before or afterwards.

Lol I totally agree with you.

I got roasted a couple of years ago by some posters due to saying that Lawerence benefited from Hardy's presence on the field that led to his eight sacks.

I hope they "roasted" the team's defensive coordinator who said the same thing himself.

I won't disagree.

A big part of that is injuries though. I don't believe he was ever healthy last season---in 14 he emerged in the playoffs.

If he can stay healthy(big IF) and our young defensive linemen continue to progress---I think he has a chance for another 8 sack season.

I sure hope so!

But at this point, he's got to prove it and I'll believe it when I see it.

Can we play a freaking season before we concern ourselves with that BS. Some folks can never have enough fires burning around the Cowboys.
You judge me all wrong. I have no problem with new topics being discussed. I just think they don't have to be fires with a year long fuse. You want to talk about whatever you want to talk about whenever you want to talk about it but you begrudge me the same courtesy? You seem to have self appointed yourself the purveyor of who is and isn't a "troll" around here. How convenient that must be, going around calling all those you have a problem with a "troll". So self importantly righteous of you to take on that responsibility. I'm not your enemy. In truth, I'm not such a bad person what-so-ever but you go ahead a persecute away.

Above we have the original quote I responded to, followed by the quote where you attempt to paint yourself as a victim. You made it very clear in the first quote that you do not approve of this topic and further implied that anyone who is interested in this topic, "can't have enough fires burning around the Cowboys."

The problem with your assessment is that you may be the only one who views this as a "fire." I certainly don't see it as a "fire." I see it as an opportunity. For one, all 20 of those players are not just playing to earn a spot on the Cowboys final 53 this season; they will be fighting for their careers following this season. While it could be a headache come season end trying to decide who to keep, for the moment it shows us how many players we know beyond a shadow of doubt will be giving their all play-in and play-out in the upcoming season. So, while this "fire" as you call it might not be so great for 2018, it may end up being something we point to looking back as a catalyst to what the Cowboys were able to achieve.

Now that that is established, I would like to direct your attention to a quote from another thread entitled "Exuberant:"

Epic fail on you.

The above quote was in response to my explaining the context in how I was describing this years collection of draft picks as "Exuberant." You suggested that until they win something they can't be exuberant. And now you suggest I'm persecuting you? On the same day of the above quote?

From that list, although dificult to figure which ones we will retain, we can see what positions we will need next offseason.

Need to get Emmett Cleary under a long term cheap contract now. Cleary was the 2nd best tackle on the team last year. This guy in solid.

No honest with you what-so-ever. I asked you if you like the fire starters and you said no. But not only was that not true, you are one. Burn it down fire starter until everyone is so busy putting out fires all around them, they don't have time to deal with you, the one starting them all. I'm on to you so you employ another trick, you make the claim that your fires are a good thing, an opportunity. Fires do indeed recycle nutrients to the soil. But your fires are only destructive. Those 20 players that will be involved with FA in 2018, have another season to play first. This is an important detail that you would have us ignore and yet it can change how we view all of these individuals. Some will be injured, some will prove to be worthy of keeping and others will remain expendable. It's why we should let this season play out before worrying about 2018's FA. It's way too early to be worrying about those 20 players fate to FA in 2018. Put this fire out and focus on something more pressing to the team right now like who's making the team, how are they going to be utilize, who is maturing into the player we need them to be and who is letting the team down... like Dez missing games or under performing. These issues are immediate issues that effect the team right now. Why start fires that have no bearing on what goes on right now? 2018 FA is such a fire, so leave it alone for now and we'll circle back to it later.
