It's all on Tony again

You don't run to score, you run to open up the pass. We are better this year, because we run play-action. If you run to score, you simply won't win.

We're not as Romo dependent as we have been. Weeden just made it look that way.

Always makes me shake my head thinking how this organization wasted Romo's best years letting Red Ginger run this offense. I've never seen an organization muck with a franchise QB so badly with an on-the-job training HC.

I was really hoping this season was different. It's not. We had a chance to beat a good team without Tony and show that we've learned other ways to win. Our running game is very good but the reason it was able to have so many carries and yards is because Tony converted 3rd downs and made teams pay by extending plays with his mobility and ability to find the open man. No doubt in my mind we win yesterday with Tony in there. Defense gave us a quick 7-0 lead and the run game really wasn't bad it just needed balance.

So Tony get well QUICK please we need you if we're going to have any shot at postseason.
You are right to an extent this is as much Tony's team as it is Murray's. What has made us successful this season is our ability to avoid being one dimensional. We force teams to "pick their poision" wihout romo defenses can stack the box and dare us to throw on them and without Murray defenses would just focus on coverage. This is the most complete team in the NFL IMO and that means we are only complete with all of our starters

I think it would be more accurate to say that Romo and Murray need each other.

Of course Romo needs Murray as well, heck of a RB and QB combo and one that could take us places but the truth is this team can win without Murray (and by win I mean, at least we have a chance) , this team doesn´t have a chance without Romo.

I would not jump to that conclusion just yet. Arizona has the best run defense in the league, and we had two staring O-linemen out. Get our guys back, face some teams that don't defend the run as well, and it's no longer all on Tony.

Realistically, you score how ever the defense allows you. Take what's given. It's been the motto this year but, Weeden just doesn't have the tools and consistency to be an NFL QB.

It's a passing league.

It actually makes me wonder if the Cowboys have a built an offensive philosophy (run heavy offense) more suited for the 1990s than today.

The rules are SO TILTED towards passing it's ridiculous.

This is how bad it is:
  • 7 quarterbacks have a QB rating of 100+
  • 19 quarterbacks have a QB rating of 90+
  • 28 quarterbacks have a QB rating of 80+
It wasn't long ago that 80+ QB ratings was considered the rubicon for average QB play. Now the entire league is above 80 and a pure 90 QB rating is just average.

It's a passing league for some but the SB champs won by running the football and playing defense. Defenses are more suited to stop the pass then the run,
so the teams that can run have had tremendous success in the last few years. Most notable the last couple of years the Seattle Seahawks, SF 49ers and this year the Dallas Cowboys.

This is true. My comments were mainly about this idea about 'balance', as if one has to fulfill some mathematical equation to score successfully. It's about fooling the defense in the end.

No matter what the ball always travels faster than a guy running, so from that perspective it's easier to move the chains.

Guess I'm too old to understand what it is that people don't seem to understand. It's a team sport. All aspects need to click together. Why is it so hard to understand that the game is not one dimensional or even two dimensional for that matter?

I don't think for a second it was all on Murray as people said recently and I don't think it is all on Romo. it is all on the offense for them to have the success they want. It is kind of what makes team work actually work. To me it is on Murray, and Tony and the WR and the OL. Offense will click when all the parts are getting their jobs done.

as i said in another thread...all the haters that said this was murray's team found out that murray needs tony.

That may be true, but I think for the second time we've abandoned the run. Murray started to get his carries and in the third quarter was gaining five to eight yards a pop. But we strangely abandoned the run again.
And we had ample chances to beat the Cardinals.
But just as Murray makes it easier for Romo, Romo makes it easier for Murray and the offense - AND the defense.
Teams, at least psychologically, have to guard against Romo even if they stack the line. And this opens up both phases of our offense.
But it bothers me that Garrett and Co. are abandoning the strategy that got us to 6-1.
It's almost like whoever possessed their minds the first seven games have been exorcized. Nobody called a priest so there should be no exorcisms taking place at Valley Ranch.

Got to love how are play-action was fooling no one either. The Cardinals simply didn't care for us throwing the ball.

That is how awful Weeden was.

Definitely missed Tony on 3rd and short. Play action. The offense just isn't nearly as potent without that guy in there. We seriously need to start looking at QB's though. His back is taking a beating and it crushes me to see it.
