Giants offensive line is a mess.

THE OFFENSIVE LINE QUESTION

For three seasons, GM Jerry Reese and the Giants have tried to atone for past sins and mistakes by spending high draft picks and lots of John Mara's dollars to fix what had become a broken-down, leaky, unreliable offensive line.

When Reese selected offensive tackle Ereck Flowers with the ninth overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft you could just picture him at one of those senior citizen bingo nights. Reese might just as well have stood up and screamed "BINGO!" at the top of his lungs because you know he thought he had just uncovered the final piece to his reconstruction. He had just been handed the winning chip.

"We think this can help solidify the offensive line, so hopefully this will settle the offensive line down and we don't have to keep talking about the offensive line as much," Reese said the night the Giants selected Flowers.

Then, of course, offseason workouts began. And because these are the Giants, the plan went to seed before the Giants even had a chance to implement it. Left tackle Will Beatty suffered a torn pectoral muscle lifting weights. During a supervised session at the Giants' Quest Diagnostics Training Center, for Jiminy's sake! How does that happen? It's the Giants, so of course stuff like that happens.

So, the Giants have to throw Flowers to the wolves and force him to play left tackle. They have to use journeyman Marshall Newhouse at right tackle. They have to hope high-priced free agent Geoff Schwartz can duct tape his feet and ankles together, somehow stay healthy and earn some of that money the Giants doled out to him. They have to hope second-year man Weston Richburg can handle center, and that his left knee doesn't become a bigger problem than it already is. They have to hope they made the right choice by moving Justin Pugh from right tackle to left guard.

In other words, there are still questions about the offensive line. Lots of 'em. Again. Reese's cry of "BINGO" turns out to have come too soon.

Flowers was a huge reach. Most draft pundits had him as a 1st Rd talent, but it was based mostly on potential. I absolutely hated him when I studied him and wouldn't have touched him until the 4th rd. I absolutely loved it when he was the pick. It's even better since I was positive Collins was going to be their guy. My how sweet it is now. A project being forced to protect Elis blindside in week 1. I can't wait for Hardy to lay in to him in the 2nd game.

What I'll be watching this game is Markus Kuhn of the Giants and our own Nick Hayden. Kuhn is essentially the Giant's version of Hayden. In fact, I'm not completely convinced they are not actually the same person. Like Hayden, Kuhn is the starting 1T, and nobody knows how or why he made the team. He also has long hair, is 29, and his role is simply to take up space and stop the run (neither of which he's very good at), all just like Hayden.

Keep an eye on the sideline to make sure Hayden is still there while the G-Men are on D ;)

Let's stay focused here. A member is going to an Ed Sheeran concert instead watching the game. The first game no less. We can't sit by idly while he makes life choices like this that will have a profound affect on his life!!

We must all reach out and explain to him he's in a -----fog and can't see clearly. Otherwise this only gets worse. If thats possible.

What happened to Hankins? He's a stud inside and probably the only guy on the DL who will cause some problems. I remember watching the games last season and the push the OL got inside was like night and day when Kuhn subbed in for Hankins.

But Coughlin sounds like set off the school fire alarm and the kids aren't even in the building yet.
Never heard him sound so hopeless.

I have a dilemma.

I'm going to an Ed Sheeran concert on Sunday. Before you slam me, there's no way I'm missing the game. I'm definitely recording it and watching it on Monday and I'm just as pumped as anyone can possibly be pumped. But Ed Sheeran is a flipping beast live and there's no way I'm missing that concert.

NOW my dilemma is this - should I go on CZ and Instagram and whatever and just check the score, or should I avoid all forms of social media until I get to watch the game so the outcome is a surprise?
You're suffering from temporary amnesia concerning what happens on CowboysZone before, during and following games. Go with your second opinion. Final answer.

I find this offensive....

This is a must-win game.

"Must-win" is way over used. The first game of the season is never "must-win". It may be a "much wanted win", "highly needed" or even a "trend setting win" or "statement win" but it's not "must-win". With that said, I very much want this win against the giants but I'd rather have the win next week in philly. IMO, that philly game is worth 2 wins.

It's nothing like seeing him live. He truly is an exceptional performer.

Plus I'm newly engaged, so this is a gift to my fiancée as well.

Unless she understands your Cowboy love, then I wouldn't check the score during the concert. Or your engagement will make OScans seem like an eternity.

Lost in the distraction over the final 53, the practice squad, discussions about Michael and Mills and patting the front office on the backs is the fact we have our season opener against the Giants in just 5 days!!!!! Nothing like kicking off the season at home against our hated division rival. GO COWBOYS!

HAHAHAHAHAAAA!!! On Carr's pick 6, did Sheli even try to push him out of bounds? Looked like he was swatting at a fly buzzing around Carr's head.:muttley:

I don't want to be overconfident or homerish, but how on earth do they plan on getting to Romo or stopping the run? They'll have to commit to 1-on-1 outside to stop our run game and they'll have to drop everyone into coverage to stop our pass game. They don't have the DL they used to.

The only way I see the Cowboys losing this game is on mistakes and turnovers, which is the very reason I hate this game being week 1 and Mara probably loves it...

Say what?! Ed Sheeran is a great musician, but he is not and never has been anything that should be confused with the term "beast." That's like calling Prince "beast" live... It might be a good show, but all the beasting will be going down in Dallas.

Must win game? No. Important win yes. Division wins, NFC wins all mean more at the end of the season. I would also say it is important from a mental stand point to get off to a good start.

Must win? no. But if they lose, I would consider the next game a must win, considering the expectations of this team; Going 0-2, against 2 division rivals, to open the season, would be pretty bad; Kinda like digging your own grave.....
