We'd be heading to the Super Bowl with JPP and Landon Collins. Both players were available to us

numerous discussions after the draft alluded to cowboys wanted Takk and the RDE the dolphins took. they were unwilling to trade up for them.

you may like chido, but we forced ourselves into redoing the backfield by kicking out all our FAs.
if forced to choose between pressure and coverage, i would take pressure any day.

If the selection was between Takk and Taco, they may have taken Takk. However, nothing came out about Dallas wanting to trade up for Takk and they didn't seem to be too disappointed when he was taken. The player you did hear them consider trading up for was Charles Harris. But that probably would have cost them Chido.

You may prefer pressure, but Chido was the best player on their board at 60. They probably would have taken him at 60 over Willis and Basham regardless of their DB losses in free agency.

yes, they created the disaster in the backfield.
they had to redo it.
chido was probably their top DB at 60, but no one has seen their draft board.

if they kept just one of their own CBs, we could have focused on edge pressure players.
if we are watching games where the other QB has 10 seconds to throw, we know who to blame.

marinelli blessed this.
if it bombs, we should can marinelli and garrett (keep the offense/coordinator the same) and go to a pressure 3-4 and a head coach who is good at game management.

we have most of the players for a 3-4.
it is probably easier to draft a watt olb-rde type than a top de.
DT - thornton, Collins, 2nd pick/FA (big 330lb type)
DE - Taco, Irving, Collins, Tcrawford
LOLB - Tapper
ROLB - Jaylon, 1st pick/FA (watt type), Nzeocha
ILB - Jaylon, Lee, Wilson, Nzeocha
DBs - no change

draft a LG 3rd and use the rest of the draft to draft more OLB types.

I just skimmed through the game for the 1st time on my dvr. I was expecting Taco to look really bad after reading this forum...uhh what the heck are you people looking at and/or expecting??? Did he look great? No, but he also didn't look horrible. He didn't get tossed around and he didn't look slow to me. He looked like he belonged to me, and that was more than enough for me. He'll be just fine, watching that 1st game and being worried about him is absolutely ridiculous

One of the RDEs we will be comparing Taco to - Charles Harris:

"Harris, the first-round pick from Missouri, has been running mostly with the second team, but the Dolphins are finding a role for him with the first team in pass-rushing situations. He’s had a very spirited competition with left tackle Laremy Tunsil, the 2016 first-round pick, in 1-on-1, third-down matchups. And as a bit of bonus, Harris, touted as a pass-rushing specialist, has been showing improvement against the run.

“He’s doing well,” defensive line coach Terrell Williams..."

Another of the RDE/OLB candidates - Watt
"The veteran tight end continued to be unbeatable in the drill as he stymied Williams on back-to-back plays, one of which Williams stopped after about four steps because he knew he was beaten. Johnson took only three reps the entire drill, but easily won all three, including one over rookie first-round pick T.J. Watt.

Watt was one of the stars of the first back-on-backers, but was kind of average on Friday. Watt even got frustrated when Xavier Grimble stood him up on one play that prompted the rookie to take a slap at Grimble. Watt finished 3-3-1 in his seven reps with all the wins coming over rookie Phazahn Odom, who was embarrassed last week in the drill."

Yes he was. He was free agent bro

bro, yes he was technically a FA, but:
The Giants used the franchise tag on Pierre-Paul last month for a one-year contract worth $16,934,000. The new deal should offer some salary-cap relief to the Giants, who were just $3,918,376 under the cap as of Friday morning, according to NFL Players Association records.

We should have made the Giants unfranchise him and offer him bigger monies. Fine we should have signed Oliver Vernon then or nick perry

i dont blame them for vernon - dont sign FAs like vernon when you just lost 12 games.
not the way to build a dynasty.
but after 13-3, i expect progress.

I heard a great topic on local radio here. We started building the Dline 4 years ago through the draft primarily. After all this time, the Dline isn't really good.

5-6 years of rebuilding the line is too long

not enough resources.
OL has 3 1st round picks.
dlaw - 2nd round
tcrawford - 3rd round
collins - 3rd round
no meaningful FA.
taco is the 1st 1st round but late in the round. they refused to trade up because they needed the other picks to get out of the DB mess they intentionally created.

Correct! That's why they need meaning FAs. Agreed. They also had Randy Gregory in the second round and picked up Jaylon smith at linebacker which could have been used on a DE as well
