It's so unfortunate - We're on the cusp...

If Carter doesn't hit - and really you only have your opinion on this - then this draft is pretty darn average. Hitting on your #1 and getting a RB in the 3rd isn't draft glory. Don't know what you see in Arkin or Harris at all that would make or break a draft in either direction.

Arking and Harris are late rounders that are considered developmental. We hit on out first three picks. I don't get why people get all wound up over what a player does after one year in the league. We should have the same conversations after the three year rule has run its course. There aren't very many Cam Newtons coming out of college and stepping right in on day one full tilt. Very few.........

They are on the cusp of being on the cusp of being a dominate football team.

these are the definition of good drafts.

2009
BJ Raji starter
Clay Matthews starter
TJ Lang starter
Jarius Wynn starter
Brad Jones second team

2010
Bryan Bulaga starter
Mike Neal second team
Morgan Burnett starter
Andrew Quarless second team
Marshall Newhouse starter
James Starks starter
CJ Wilson second team

2011
Derek Sherrod second team
Randall Cobb starter/special teams ace
Alex Green injured reserve
Davon House third team
DJ Williams third team
DJ Smith second team
Ryan Taylor active roster

Your pool is extremely small. Let's get away from the Packers. They're in a class by themselves. Give me another example.

Carter has barely seen the field. How can you say we "hit" on our first 3 picks? Arkin hasn't seen said field and Harris is playing special teams - big deal.

RBs are a dime a dozen in this league now, and saying that we hit on Smith is nice, but hardly puts this draft above anything other than average. This team needs to do better than that to fill the holes it has.

RBs are a dime a dozen but our 3rd rounder was going to break 1,000 yards rushing without the benefit of playing a full season. Once again, for me, the three year rule regularly applies. Tyron started every game as a rookie and proved his worth. DeMarco also proved his worth. Bruce Carter will be special before he hits the three year limit. Sorry. I don't get caught up in what a draft pick does or doesn't do in one year. They all adjust to the NFL level differently.

You don't know that. Its nice speculation, but its just that, speculation.

You are applying the 3 year rule and yet declaring all three players as "hits" when 2 of the 3 haven't even played half a season yet? And saying Carter will be anything more than Jayson Williams is again, total speculation.

The 3 year rule works both ways. Plenty of players have a good first season or couple of games and come back to Earth.

And either way only Smith is a bona fide star from this draft, which is not that unreasonable from a 9th overall pick.

actually this is where your wrong.

we CAN and SHOULD expect our 1st-4th rounders to come in and contribute right away.

1st pick was solid. tyron is one of the few players i like on this team.

2nd pick...bruce carter. there were a plethora of options at this pick. including several guards that would have helped out that sorry oline this year. to draft a project at this slot was ridiculous imo.

3rd pick...demarco i'm still not 100% sold on. he had injury issues in college, and he didn't look that great in his final two games.

4th pick...inactive every single game this year. this is a HUGE red flag when you consider all the injuries at guard. even kowalski, an undrafted kid jumped him.

5th pick...cut.

6th pick...cut and nobody picked him up. couldn't even pass ogletree on depth chart.

7th/8th pick....chapas=BUST. giants got a gem in undrafted rookie FA hynoski. nagy is nothing more than a backup. solid pick for 7th round.

It looked liked more of the same ole same ole.

This false belief crap has got to go. We aren't on the cusp of jack squat.

I sadly have to think this might be true and that the problem might be that the people in charge of identifying and signing talent don't look at the players with enough of a critical eye and may be viewing them in the same light avid fans do who love their team and are susceptible to overrating the team and players.

Why did I state that we're on the cusp in the title? I firmly believe that a little tweaking here and there will place us where we want to be. We already have a high powered offense. Tweak that Oline a little. Consider possibly bringing in a QB and RB as solid backups. Allow Rob Ryan to shop for his groceries. Standing pat is not an option. Let's get to tweaking...

Whether the source of your optimism is devotion or lunacy, it's amazing that you still have it.

Three year rule guys. I can't get on your level until I have given new draft picks the benefit of the doubt.

Tyron: great first year
Bruce: I like him and look forward to seeing him in the mix next year.
DeMarco: was on pace for over 1,000 yards rushing before the freak injury took time down. I expect great things from him next year.
Arkin: TBD

Solid draft imo. Talk to you in the morning.

how many drafts would be appropriate? three straight hit drafts is impressive. especially when you consider their draft position.

Like I said, find another team with that type of track record. I bet you can't... That type of draft falls under the minority.

You've got some awfully generous "starters" in there.

Cal it whatever you want. I love my Cowboys and will continue to see more of a glass half full. I spent many years viewing the glass half empty and it didn't matter. So I choose to find positives and hope that the people who make the decisions at VR will continue to build this team into a winner.

Not really. You hope 2nd rounders can help but you never count on 3rd or 4th rounders contributing right away.

Just like the Lee pick last year the Cowboys knew he likely would contribute much besides special teams this year. Not a project just needed to get healthy.
3rd pick...demarco i'm still not 100% sold on. he had injury issues in college, and he didn't look that great in his final two games.
Sure looks like the real deal to most people. Against the Giants he went 5 for 25 before getting hurt. Before that he only got 12 carries and Felix 6 as we passed all game.
4th pick...inactive every single game this year. this is a HUGE red flag when you consider all the injuries at guard. even kowalski, an undrafted kid jumped him.
Huge red flag? You kidding? He needs work on technique and footwork and to get stronger as all rookies do. He is a projected starter and was a great draft pick. From Missouri St to the NFL is a big jump.
6th pick...cut and nobody picked him up. couldn't even pass ogletree on depth chart.
Dwayne Harris was returning kickoffs last night.
7th/8th pick....chapas=BUST. giants got a gem in undrafted rookie FA hynoski. nagy is nothing more than a backup. solid pick for 7th round.
Agree on the 7th round. Overall it still looks like a pretty solid draft to me. We'll see in a couple more years.

dude you asked me to find what a good draft looks like. when you're drafting 10th, i expect 3 starters and 2 or 3 other contributors to the team. tyron smith is the only player we drafted without a question mark. too many others with "if" projections. if bruce carter can fill in...if demarco can stay healthy...if arkin can get stronger. if=project. we've drafted too many of those over the years.

fyi we could have gotten a 16 game starter at guard in bruce carter and demarco's spots.

excuses...i dont have the time and energy to debate this jerry jones pr bull**** anymore.

go back and look at the players we could have drafted at those spots and how their seasons played out. then come back and talk to me.
