Put it in 3" headlines: this team is going nowhere as long as Jerry Jones is running the show.

Jerry Jones is mentally ill in the respect that he HAS to have credit for the success of the team.

He'd rather lose than have the perception that a real GM or a coach was the reason for winning or he'd never have let Jimmy leave.

A really great owner would have backed up an armored truck full of money to a coach's front door that had won two super bowls.

Instead, our "best owner in sports" gets drunk and runs his mouth about how 500 coaches could win with his team and hires some bumpkin to prove it.

That team should have won 4 or 5 championships in a row, but no, "best owner in sports" wasn't getting the credit he "deserved".

Looking at it from a big picture, we shouldn't be surprised we went 8-8 this year. A lot of folks had us pegged as being a team in rebuilding mode, what with a new offensive line and a defense in transition.

The issue I have is we have a soon-to-be-32-year-old QB, a head coach who hasn't shown to be the best decision maker in crunch time, and a mistake-prone culture where we constantly shoot ourselves in the foot.

If we're rebuilding, what are we trying to mold here? And why, no matter who the head coach, has our season ended in absolute failure in about 80 percent of the last five or so seasons?

Then came last season and the 0-and-whatever start. Add in the way we ended this year, the bobbled snap to end the '06 season, the playoff flameout in '07 and the disastrous '08 season and, holy hell, we're amid a pretty rough stretch of Cowboys history here.

Well except to release 3 OLmen without anything but Smith to replace them with. We compounded that by giving extensions to several of our more mediocre players, including Free, Scandrick and Sensy.

We may be perennially on the cusp, because the owner seems happy to be there.

This is absolutely correct and it's a shame.

What Jerry doesn't realize is, if he were to bring in a GM to restructure everything, and the the plan succeeded, he would be absolutely adored by the fan base and respected nationally. I think he believes otherwise.

Would he take a few shots from the media, of course, but if we were winners again people would respect him as an owner who places his considerable resources in the hands of good football people, they would not deride him for the years of mediocrity.

He thinks if he steps aside it will be nothing but 'i told you so's' for the rest of his life when his team is successful 'without him'.

I just don't believe that would be the case.

Scandrick is puzzling but I think Garrett is rebuilding this team and knows what he is doing. I don't think we will have any more completely wasted drafts because Garrett is football smart. He was willing to wait a year for Carter because he knew one player wouldn't make a difference this year. He can't say that, of course. I'll bet Carter will be special. Garrett is going to get us some special players. Jerry will fade into the background.

I thought so too... I guess if you look at an accumulation of the last several years, more can be said for the need to draft better. Last year was indeed a step in the right direction. We hit on our top three picks and have a couple of other good possibles as well....

Maybe you are right, but I have absolutely no friggin idea what you are basing this opinion on other than blind hope.

Garrett's first year as HC has to come in at a C- at best, and that is being kind. Why the faith that a very inexperienced coach like him is going to be anything more?

We did. The previous one wasn't terrible either. However, prior to those two years, our drafts have pretty much been total busts for some time now. Blowing entire drafts sets any team back and we're the poster organization for that fact.

If Carter doesn't hit - and really you only have your opinion on this - then this draft is pretty darn average. Hitting on your #1 and getting a RB in the 3rd isn't draft glory. Don't know what you see in Arkin or Harris at all that would make or break a draft in either direction.
