Ok. Let me rephrase for those of you that are more emotional than I am right now.. We are not at a point of completely deconstructing this team. We have a wealth of talent but lack the heart that it takes to come up big in big games. We need better leadership both on and off the field. No doubt.

That said, do you completely deconstruct this team or do you add the pieces that we're missing (both in the lineup and at the coaching level)?

That's the 60 million dollar question. I'm afraid gven the age of the key players (Romo, Witten, Ratliff, Ware) that there won't be enough time to build a good enough team around these guys before they are no longer competitive and healthy enough to add any value to this team. Therefore I would be inclined to see what I could get in trade for all of these guys now. If I could land something like 3-4 firsts, 2-3 seconds and maybe 1-2 3rds for them all, I might pull the trigger and go full rebuild, package some picks to grab Luck and then rebuild the team around Luck, Tyron, Lee, Dez, Carter, Scandrick eek: ?), Free, Murry, Jenkins & Bailey. Hopefully have plenty of picks leftover to draft some more offensive and defensive linemen, etc and grow the team with a completely different mindset free from the previous years of futility, young and hungry ready to forge their own path and create a new reality under Garrett's hopefully successful leadership.

I fear if the powers that be keep believing that we're just a few players away that they may continue to hover around 8-8 (give or take a few wins every other year) and never end up with a team good enough to win a Super Bowl.

I think Jerry Jones insults the intelligence of the fans to think they couldn't endure a rebuilding process. I think they would provided it paved the road for a new paradigm that created a team that could be competitive and successful for the long haul.

This may be dreaming and wouldn't be successful but something is wrong with the organization and something needs to be done, maybe something even drastic like I proposed. It's been this way too long and it's crying damn shame that a team with the prestige that the Dallas Cowboys have cannot capitalize on it and be a very competitive team year in in out.

Maybe they're on this path in a not so extreme process but it's getting harder and harder to believe this story coming out of valley ranch year after year.

Kowalski didn't pass Arkin on the depth chart. He had to be active because he's the backup center.

On the cusp?

This team was on the cusp after 2006.

After 2007 they were basically handed the Superbowl title only to squat a fat turd in 2008.

In 2009 they once again were on the cusp and actually made strides.

Last year, they completely bombed and took a number of steps back.

I'd even call this year an even further step back because the shortcomings that sunk this season cannot be totally corrected in a single season. There is no way that Dallas can adequately fill all their holes on the OL, DL and secondary in one season.

Right now, this team is further from the cusp than they were after 2006. A lot further. The key pieces this team has are aging. Those who aren't done right now like Newman and James are probably only a few years away from being caught by father time.

This team is average. They're no closer to being a contender than the Eagles or any other number of average teams.

The talent on this team is severely overrated by a lot of fans. We basically have no secondary to speak of, the OL is, AND HAS BEEN, a disaster for years. Need LB help. There is a LOT to be done here. We are not one year away. We need good young talent - players who WANT to play and want to LEAD.

We have some truly awesome players (Ware, Romo, Lee) but there are many players who are absolutely worthless and many who are overrated (Free, Spencer, Felix, Bryant - yes Bryant).

Dallas is not on the cusp and is not a tweak or two away from playoff relevance. This is an aging core of players surrounded by marginal or flawed talent. The three best players on the team--Romo, Ware, and Witten--will all by in their 30s at the start of next season.

There is just not enough good, young talent to supplement that core, and most of it is at non-premium positions. At the positions that matter most (pass rushers, both lines, secondary), the good, young talent is almost completely lacking.

Dallas needs an outsider to come inventory the roster objectively, because Jones and his crew just can't see what we really have on hand.

The Cowboys were on the cusp in 2007 when they lost to the Giants in the playoffs. The team has regressed ever since. There are a few good players but by and large they are now mediocre. The Cowboys only made it as far as they did this year because they had a weak schedule down the stretch. They will be hard pressed to win 8 games next year unless changes are made.
