It is when he's taking an active roster spot and there is a guy on the practice squad who is a better runner and fit for this roster.
We have Rico and the fullback now we really just need a third guy for the rotation. Maybe it's cook.

I'd call up Cook and Malik Davis or look at a PS guy like Frank Gore Jr (BUF) or Ke'Shawn Vaughn (SF)
There ya go! Gore Jr., Vaughn or some other young RB with potential.

Let's say he doesn't do anything that makes the front office/fans happy, then who do we want running the ball??? A lot of us are talking about he should get in the game, but what if he's no better than what we have backing up Rico?

Please give your thoughts on this, maybe there's a reason he's not called up yet. I think due to the health at RB there's really not a need to call him up

I still would have used Zeke on that goal line attemp, Rico is not that effective on short yardage and seems a bit propense to fumble.
Quick google search shows that was Rico's first fumble in 150 attempts. Zeke's averages a fumble every 87 attempts.

Rico fumbled at the 1.
Yeah that could have got him benched if Dak didn't save his bacon there. The bottom line though is that Zeke is not producing in the backup role. Some guys can come off the bench and some guys can't. It is what it is.. Zeke appears to be one of those guys who needs reps to get into a a rhythm. The Cowboys are not even using him in short yardage and red zone like they should so at this point they may as well bench him, cut him, trade him or whatever. The only way to get value out of him on the field is to use him and if you're not going to use him then why is he here? He's a team guy who will never complain but this is as much of a waste as it was under Kellen Moore. I still think this team's best chance of having a real running game is pounding with Zeke and changing up with Rico. But they aint gonna do that so "Give 'em hell, Rico!!!"

Rico fumbled at the 1.
He did, but he was having a great game before that. If McCarthy knew he would fumble at the 1, then he wouldn't have had him in there, but Dowdle had not fumbled once since he'd been here from what I've read.

Frankly, I don't think either Dowdle or Elliott is the answer, but Dowdle did have a good game outside of the fumble, so let's see where it goes from here. The fumble should make McCarthy hesitant to use him near the goal line, though.

Time to bench Zeke? He is basically benched already. He should have never been re-signed in the first place. Rico has the job. But I agree they need to bring Cooks up to see what he can still do, anything. Otherwise why did they sign him in the first place?
I still say they need to make a trade to get another back. No offense to Rico, he had a good game, but he isn't the answer to our running woes.
You’re living in the moment. It’s easy to sit here now saying Zeke shouldn’t have been signed but Dowdle had yet to establish himself. We needed the competition in camp and the extra backs due to losing Pollard. Dowdle has taken control of the starting position, but he’s still an average back. Had Dak not fallen on his fumble in the closing seconds everyone would be wanting to move on from Dowdle. He would’ve been persecuted had the game ended with that fumble.

Zeke shouldn’t be benched, he should be cut.

I think they can cut Zeke and Deuce. Chance Deuce gets picked up elsewhere but if not, to the PS.

I'd call up Cook and Malik Davis or look at a PS guy like Frank Gore Jr (BUF) or Ke'Shawn Vaughn (SF)
Gore Jr could step in and be Kenneth Walker type back TODAY.

I'd poach him today and straight tell him to expect the football 15x per game. So get up to speed by Friday.

The radio was saying something about how the camera caught Zeke in the locker room and he was so banged up he couldn’t get his shoulder pads on without help. The guy is just sadly done. I actually think he looks faster this year than his last year that he was here but clearly his body is failing him. Cook looked very similar in NY. I would bet there’s a practice squad guy somewhere that has more than either Zeke or Cook can give.

Anyone with eyeballs knew this guy was washed years go, yet we still had many posters making every excuse in the world. But the dude is hurt and they still suit him up? No way do I believe McCarthy has any control in that, which is the underlying problem of this franchise since literally Jimmy left.

The Jones' and those posters that stood by him, ripping the hell out of anyone that would question him, are just delusional.
IIRC on the radio they said his total cap hit is like 8m because of his previous dead money. I can't verify that, but this is a perfect example of Stephen's incompetence. I dont even blame Zeke, he knows he has a gravy train and he's all aboard.

I think they let Zeke go and get another defensive lineman before the trade deadline

Leupke is assuming the short yardage power back role we all thought Zeke would fill.
Cook's slashing style as a backup is a better fit for the RB group than Zeke, who offers very little at this point.
I think Rico Dowell is playing good football
