It's time to ponder some realities

Not saying these are definite, but it might be time for some to begin to think about some of these potential realities.

1) Dak might not be that good. He looks uncomfortable in the pocket. He throws a lot of ducks and bad passes. He seems to get gun shy the first time something bad happens and suddenly the dump offs start to come in waves. It makes me crazy when it's 3rd and 8, and he literally hits Beasely in like a second on a 5 yard out. He doesn't even scan the field at times, immediately looking for the quick dump off. Is that Prescott or is that the coaches?

2) This staff is blah. They aren't awful but they aren't really that good either. There is no "freshness" or creativity to anything they really do. It's pretty basic and if it doesn't work, they kind of go into panic mode a bit in a game. I, personally, am growing tired of the logic around here that we need to continue to draft well and let them grow with Garrett. Maybe it's just me but if you need to load the entire roster with young and cheap talent to get the most out of your coach, guess what? You have an issue at head coach. Don't tell me that you can't judge Garrett given roster limitations when a rookie head coach just handed you your lunch (twice) this season. The sad thing is that barring a total collapse this year, another .500 or so year just gets Garrett another year. The Jones family is too close to Garrett to be objective and rational. They are going to waste a couple more years of this young core on finding out what is pretty obvious.

3) There are some issues with the OL. I am betting on continuity being a big factor here but something is not right. They may have made a mistake going Collins at RT and Green at LG. Maybe that should have been reversed. Then again, how can you rely on Green? They may need to draft an OT again high this draft (first three rounds or so) because I doubt they would spend any money on FA on fixing the issue.

This is just an average football team. They are and that's a reality. They are frustrating to watch because at times you see glimpses of something you think is a legit high level team but that is often fleeting and too many times you get the crap ball you saw today.

Frankly, it's so frustrating that for the first time in awhile, I just don't feel like talking about football much this coming week.

I think any reasonable fan feels mostly the same way. It's a long season, it's not over yet but going from a team last year that was pretty good week in and week out to this team is hard to swallow. My biggest fear is that this coaching staff (primarily Garrett) will just be unable to make the proper changes and rally the troops. To me he is just a glorified fanny patter. I've just never seen any "Genius" in him and that is a problem. I hate mediocrity.

I don't really feel like Dak is "not that good" as you say. He's only in his second season and frankly last year he wasn't harassed nearly as much as he has been this season. It looks uncomfortable and I think the changes to the OL cannot be understated. I'm sure he can fix some things but he does some pretty amazing things for a young player, so I really think the future is bright for him. He is not a turnover machine and he makes some pretty amazing plays most games. No, he's not perfect but we are lucky to have a young QB with potential like him. Romo's body was done. We are just lucky to have him I think.

The coaching staff...I agree. Garrett is the HDIC. He cannot let his team come out and play like garbage like that after a really good first half. They were on their way to blowing the Rams out. It's like they checked out at half time, did nothing to change anything. This has to be on the coaching staff to me.

Keeping expectations low from this point on is probably a good thing.

You score 30 points and gaim 400+ yardz at home you should win.

Defense gave up 9 scoring drives - only 2 TDs shockingly. In the first half they were solid vs Gurley in the 1st half, but in the 2nd, they were on the field too mich because the offiense couldn't stay on the field- Dez's drop on 3rd down was the biggest play of the game. It's 24-16 still, and he driops a perfectly thrown low ball. From there on it was all Rams even though they only scored 1 td in the 2nd half.

Dallas's OL so far is mediocre. Their defense has no playmakers other than Lawrence. Expect more of the same even when Lee, Hitchens and Irving return.

Next week could be worse as GB has 10'days rest...yikes.

So who is the awesome qb that we can get? Wentz barely beat a 0 and 3 chargers team. Goff and Dak had similar stats this game. Who is the magic kid that is going to put 40 points up in a Garrett offense?

We already have him....yet our coaching staff is too dumb to play him. @ least Kellen Moore can complete a pass..and is accurate.

Played 3 pretty good defenses the last 3 weeks. Today they played the NFL's #1 scoring offense, and couldn't stop them in the 2nd half. They haven't been spectacular in any phase thus far this season. The win against NY was the only game I saw where they played as a team. The upside is that it is early in the season, changes can be made and yes, they obviously can turn it around. It's not how you start, its how you finish. The downside is that I believe Dallas lacks the coaching team to turn it around. I have always said Red is too passive. All assistants are old school has beens. If they do indeed turn it around, I'd be shocked.

1. Wasn't that his issue in college? IIRC last year he wasn't this bad in the pocket. Return of some bad habits?
2. I agree.
3. O-line has been average overall. No longer the best in the league.

I'm really surprised at Daks regression in the pocket this year as well. He never looked half as uncomfortable in any game last year in the pocket as he has in all 4 so far this year.

This is really surprising. Would love to understand what's happened there. Trying to learn too much in a short period of time?

It's a shaky start but some of these issues will be remedied by fire through the first half of the season. Young team and lack of cohesion getting exposed in the big boy NFL. And that includes the OL with 2 young guys playing new positions.

I think we'll look like a better team through the 2nd of the season. Last 6-8 games will show whether we should be looking for some new staff, imo.

My personal opinion, once the defense gets some more experience and the OL gets used to each other, we'll look much better. Awuzie is the top rated DB prospect we took this year, his hamstring injury was pretty bad but we need him on the field getting reps.

Most importantly, Dak is going to have to learn how to beat the heavy coverage packages that Denver and now the Rams have used against him to great effect. He's incredible against the blitz, which i'd rather see in a young QB anyway, but now he has to learn to beat coverage packages that are employed by good-great pass defenses.

I think he will.

Lot of things to look for over the course of this season. I wouldn't be surprised to go into the playoffs playing our best football of the year, we'll see.

WRs are not getting open and Zeke is sluggish compared to last sesson.

If a franchise QB falls to them in the draft, they need to pull the trigger. For the record I like Dak but he may be stuck in the no mans land between bus driver and good.

There are no difference makers on the staff. For them to go a long distance in the playoffs everything has to go right, kind of like last year, and it still wasnt enough.

You didnt even broach the other side of the ball which is a bigger issue.

Are we really going down the road where an awesome QB is what we need? Really?

With a garbage and scared coaching staff, the margin for error is thin.

There is a reason why, at the end of the day, Jason Garrett is a .500 coach.
