I've been hearing our defense isn't bad all week

I would suggest events in each game play out in ways that defy a set supposition when examined in the light of statistics.

For instance, the offense put the team in a hole early and often. The defense wasn't really tested since the game was out of hand by the end of the first half.

Human nature suggests when the 9ers came out for the second half, they eased up. Perhaps not in play calling, but the flags indicate their sharpness had eroded because the game was in the bag. The fourth quarter they concentrated on ball control.

The ease with which they scored against the Dallas defense in the first half, and the Bob Sturm X's and O's reveals this, indicate stats in this game are secondary to the "reality" of what transpired. Had they remained focused, this would have been a huge blow-out.

This defense is bad. Adding players who were out due to injury may improve the defense. To be determined.

But the truth is, Scandrick, perhaps the best corner on this team, would be the third corner back on most teams. If he is the hallmark, that tells you a great deal about the lack of talent this franchise has on defense.

lol so a guy makes a thread about something nobody has said, and starts slamming jerry like everybody else loves him and disagrees with how bad he is at drafting....weird thread.

Sounds about like a lot of threads, par for the course...:lmao2:

TV analysts and reporters are acting like we have one of the worst Ds to ever to take the field. Every fantasy pundit suggests using every opposing offensive player against us. I would say we are nowhere near as bad as we are being portrayed. Our D was shredded last year, but that unit is not the same one we are running out there this year.

We are already missing Lee, DLawrence, Spencer and Durant. A couple more injuries and we could be in real trouble like last year. But the starting unit right now isn't terrible.

Did you re-watch the first half?

I re-watched the whole game. As I said, I don't think anyone is raving about our defense in week one. Considering what we had last year and what most of us (myself included) expected to see last week, they played better than expected and did not play "badly". They made some mistakes, but far less than expected. As I said though, they very well may get torched this week.

Lmao wait till Locker cuts our defense in ribbons, what will you blind loyalists say then?

I'm not one of those who thinks the defense was all that good...

having said that, you have to be one the biggest whiners on the planet.

Well, I am not going to quibble over adjectives. I thought the 9ers basically moved the ball at will. Their one-two punch at RB was impressive.

The D-line certainly got more pressure than I expected. In fact, take away Kaepernick's elusiveness I think they get 2 or 3 more sacks.

It will be interesting to see if the defense improves. The last couple of seasons (and perhaps due to injury) the defense seemed to get worse as the season progressed.

Not sure how anyone really believes this. Unless their goal was to punt a lot.
They averaged only 4.0 YPC and had 319 total yards for the entire game.
A lot of offenses would have pounded the rock on us and had 450 yards total offense with over 200 rushing.
SF offense looked pretty anemic honestly.

This defense isn't what beat Dallas, but that is not to say it played well. San Francisco looked really bad coming in, and luckily for them, they didn't have to push it much offensively. I would kill to have seen what a game looked like without our offense gifting points and field position so early and often.

As shaky as they have been, the 49ers were efficient in key areas, namely with third down conversions.

Hopefully, we can clean up areas in coverage and get folks on the same page. I realize we didn't force a turnover and registered only one sack, but we were pretty competitive at the point of attack against a pretty salty group. Like many, I don't see this unit morphing into anything spectacular.

For this group, I would hope they focus on things they can actually handle: tackling and limiting YAC. If opponents are able to parlay 13-play drives into touchdowns, tip your cap and move on. But that is a very difficult thing for offenses, right? There always seems to be a drive killer looming.

This is all pretty obvious, but it's still asking a lot considering.

It is almost impossible to be this bad at ev

I watch a lot of CFB, I know good players and trash players. Jerrah and Stephen always take the trash or the guys made of glass. You act like it's rocket science toe evaluate players, they are the worst I've ever seen at evlauating defense. JErrah said Mo Clay was the next Deion Sanders, did he not watch a game of LSU. Their entire defense were NFL players.

So what you're saying is that you're 12 years old and your mom leaves you home alone on Saturdays...

I have an idea. I could start a new thread saying that the defense was good last week, and the OP could watch the devastation that the natives wrought on me and it would become very clear that nobody else has been saying the defense is good.

Last week gave the possibility that the defense is bad as opposed to one of the worst defenses in history. If Romo doesn't totally blow it who knows what we see, but I don't think the Niners did what they wanted at will the whole day. I'm really worried about the secondary, but I think the LBs are coming looking alright and the defensive line didn't look like trash. Melton should get more snaps which should help the line look even better.
