Teams couldn't run the ball on Demarcus Ware's side from 2005-09. Teams have ran at will on D-Wares side starting in 2010.

Randy White had a break down of this back in 2010. How Ware wasn't keeping his contain. But I'm the one lying to myself?

Ask anyone who knows the game, how has D Ware played the run the past 4 seasons.

If they're honest and smart, they'll tell you not very well.

But *** I'm lying to myself!

Like that WG and fallen pebble.

You're entire opinion is based on run defense?

You've already said you don't care about sacks, so I just want to make sure that run defense is what you are basing your entire statement on.

If that's the case we can end this entire discussion right here. I have no interest in simply overlooking sacks because a guy's run defense may or may not be as good as you require.

“The defense is going to be better. They can’t possibly be as bad or worse than a year ago, so it’s going to be better,” Aikman said Tuesday on ESPN 103.3 FM’s "Afternoon Show with Cowlishaw and Mosley."

Aw, what does Troy know. He's just a homer.

Heh, with respect Hos, the "our ship will fare better than the Titanic when it hits the iceberg, because it can't fare any worse" argument is pretty bad. Whatever Troy does or doesn't know, there's not a lot of logic to point to in his argument.

I think the defense may be better. But we are rolling a lot of dice on young guys who have done nothing on the field, and even older castoffs who have done little on the field, and saying things will be "better." It very well may not be if some of the young guys don't pan out. And its not remotely unheard of for young guys not to pan out.

To me this isn't a playoff worthy defense by an stretch, and my guess is you agree with that. The NFCE still sucks horribly IMO, so we may sneak in on that basis, but we aren't going any further than the Eagles did last year. Need another year or two of focusing on this defense to change that, and then hope Romo still has some fumes in the tank.

Not sure what argument your referring too from Gameover, but I will say, imo, run defense is more important than sacks. Forcing a team to be one-dimensional, tends to force turnovers, and I'm sure we can all agree that an interception is a bigger game changer than a sack is. Right?

I hear everyone saying we're 8-8 again, or 6-10, even worse. I think that's a load of crap and I'll tell you why. The Defense is going to be a lot better in 2014, and we now have the makings of a really great OL.

How can I say the Defense will be better? It's real simple, it is no longer a M*A*S*H unit. When this team does improve a lot of people are going to have to explain why they were wrong about the injuries hurting us in 2013. They did hurt us. Way more than people realize.

We lost the best 2 pieces of our Defensive Line and I still say we're going to be better than last year. The reason is we finally have some decent depth. Nothing against Nick Hayden, but when he's a starter, you're in some trouble.

Let's look at DE from last year and this year.

2013...DeMarcus Ware, Anthony Spencer (1 game), George Selvie, Landon Cohen, Edgar Jones, Caesar Rayford, Jason Vega, and Jarius Wynn.

2014...DeMarcus Lawrence, Anthony Spencer, Tyrone Crawford, Ben Gardner, Jeremy Mincey, George Selvie, and Martez Wilson.

I figure 6 of that group will make the team with Crawford getting work inside and out. Martez Wilson is probably the odd man out.

Now let's look at DT from last year and this year.

2013...Jason Hatcher, Nick Hayden, Jerome Long, Marvin Austin, Everette Brown, Everett Dawkins, Corvey Irvin, David Carter, Drake Nevis, and Frank Kearse.

2014...Henry Melton, Terrell McClain, Amobi Okoye, Josh Brent?, Ben Bishop, Ben Bass, and Davon Coleman.

I think people are really going to like Davon Coleman. Put him or Bishop with that first 4, or both of them and drop Brent.

With the Offense clearly looking to control the clock more with the ground game setting up the passing game, and the Defense actually having better depth for a fresh legs rotation I am saying the Defense is going to be better than people give it credit for. I just can't understand why people think last year's Defense wasn't the easy biggest issue with what was wrong with this team.

Enjoy the season, it's going to be a lot better than people think right now. I look forward to some excitement. Get excited now for your Cowboys. You won't regret it.

Yes sir, I have been telling everyone that our defense is not only going to be better, but it will be significantly better than last season. We will surprise the league with how well our defense pays this season, our OL will surprise the league as well.

Just to comment on run defense, we gave up 4.7 ypc last year. That does need to improve.

We already lost the best player on defense for the year. There may be 3 new starters on the DL. Two that didn't play a down in the NFL last year and 1 coming off of a major injury. We have huge question marks at MLB, SLB, FS, and 3rd and 4th CB. We have question marks concerning how well Carter and Carr will play this year. Will they bounce back or have another bad year in this system.

Beginning of last season, some people didn't expect the defense could be worse than 2012 but look what happened.

Yes we could have a defense that is worse than last year's defense.

After reading most of the thread, I wasn't sure if I was on CowboysZone.com or ExtremeSkins.com

If the Cowboys' defense improves, then Aikman sees a team that can contend.

“The defense is going to be better. They can’t possibly be as bad or worse than a year ago, so it’s going to be better,” Aikman said Tuesday on ESPN 103.3 FM’s "Afternoon Show with Cowlishaw and Mosley."

Everyone knows Troy is an Eagles fan.

I'm not afraid to predict good thing for my Cowboys either and I tell you we are going to have a DOMINANT offensive line. We will wear teams down. Our depth is ridiculous! Murray will have 1400 yards and we will eat up time of possession.

It can go both ways. Last year in training camp Ware said he felt the best he's felt in a long time and he had his worst year statistically. I'm glad we are trying to get younger and there will be growing pains but a lot these young guys have a loads of potential.

Nothing at all wrong with looking forward to the season.

Do you ever take off your victim status mantle? Geez.
I have a lot of friends who like other teams. Many of them hate the Cowboys. Which is cool with me. I like that as much as I like someone who loves the team.

I can't think of a single one of my Cowboys hating friends who says as many negative things about them as some of the fans here. I could walk by James at work 20 times a day and still hear less insults about the Cowboys than some people throw out here on a daily basis. Forgive me for not understanding that kind of love. or don't. I don't give a damn.

I find it hard to believe people think a dog will still love them if they hit it 20 or more times a day. I am sure there are women who would stay with a man who tears up everything about her and professes love at the same time, but I don't get it. I'll never get it.

Idgit pointed out earlier that you were once again pushing your martyr act a little too hard. It always cracks me up when you see in others what you can't see in yourself. Have a great day. I will too.
