Maybe it's time you shed your so called fandom of the Cowboys?

Maybe, maybe not, what?

Let me see if I can get this straight... OP comes in with an air of superiority, proclaiming anyone who thinks this team is going 8-8 is full of crap, but there's no point in bringing up that OP's predictions are rarely based in reality and rarely correct? If I think the team is 8-8, he thinks I'm full of crap. But if I think he's full of crap, I gotta keep my mouth shut?

I happen to think what I posted is pertinent... and interesting. I guess if you don't think so, you're free to disagree or ignore me.

All I can say, is if people didn't disagree on this forum, this forum wouldn't be worthy of paying attention to; it, quite frankly, would be boring. We need debate - especially you, Pep, otherwise you would not have become a lawyer.

Having said all that, the attacks on whose a better fan, and who should be a fan, I find to be a tired argument. We wouldn't be here if we were not fans - especially in the offseason. What this blog could use is a big dose of mutual respect and maybe just a little logic. We are all people with different levels of football understanding and different perception filters. It is what makes us individauls. The attacks on people are silly. I personally view myself as a realist, but rarely do I point that out because of all the nonsensical responses it tends to generate. Hostile has made it clear that he would like to see people excited about football; not a whole bunch of pissing and moaning about what the Cowboys are not. I get that, but, unfortunately, the Cowboys of late have given little to support that type of following. For some, the Cowboys are what there record was. For others, it can't get worse, so they can only get better - and with just a little better, this team makes the playoffs. Once their in the playoffs, all the need is to stay healthy and get hot at the right time. And still for another faction of this blog, it could get worse and based on the lack of improvements the Cowboys were able to make it probably will be worse. However you view it shouldn't really matter though..especially when it comes to measuring how big of a fan you are. So please, pretty please, zip up your pants guys!

I had to jump in on this. Is optimism helping them? Because I would argue the opposite. When you tell a player he's doing great and will be great, many times they have a tendency to rest on their laurels. Whereas, if you tell them their best wasn't good enough, dependent on their character, they will either quit - which I say good riddance if that's how they respond - or they work harder to get better. I think we can all agree, based on 2013, this team needs to work harder.

Have you ever played sports? This is ludicrous.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course. I think posters wouldn't be so quick to categorize another poster if said poster occasionally took the other side. Maybe Hostile wouldn't be labeled a "Pollyanna" if he made a negative prediction every once in a while. The same if Risen Star or Alexander said something positive about the team for a change. People refer to you as a hater well because you are always hating. And when called out on it, you get some long winded response about the team not winning a lot the last twenty years. It is equally tiring for the rah-rah group to pull peoples fan card.

Yes I have played sports, I was also in the military - Army Infantry - , and I also have 15 years of work experience. However, none of these experiences qualify me to make the argument I made. All you need is a brain, scarecrow!

Personally, I'm a big fan of Hostile, Risen Star and Alexander. But that doesn't mean I always agree with them...nor does it mean they are perpetually safe from the occasional sarcasm I tend to employ. But at then end of the day, for me, it's all in good fun.

But, like you, I do get tired of the reminders of what the Cowboys haven't done, as if we haven't been paying attention and I truly am sick of the "stop being a fan" card. But, as in all things in life, you have to take the good with the bad - which is actually a great microcosm of what being a Cowboys fan is all about.

Air of superiority? Where do you get that?

He's just an optimistic fan looking at the potential of his team and calling it like he sees it if we have a decent year health wise.

Has the attitude of the chicken little fans and Realists that contaminate this board really created such a negative air that anyone who is optimistic can be looked at as having an air of superiority?

The air of superiority doesn't come from being optimistic. It comes from calling those who don't agree with your particular viewpoint full of crap, and trying to tell everyone how to be a fan. It's the height of arrogance, and the OP will admit to his arrogance.

I don't care how you choose to be a fan, if you have well thought out opinions and base things in reality, go for it..... There's no "right way" to be a fan.

Not angry about it a bit. It was an honest question and one I feel is relevant.

But if you feel the need to use the question to continue to paint yourself as a victim, please continue.

I'm about as much a victim as LeBron James is a famous river rafter.

Arrogance aside, if I'm in a debate with another team troll, there is no one better to have in that conversation than Hostile. The guy absolutely destroys them with his knowledge of not just this team's history but other team's too. You got to give the guy some respect, even if he seem's a bit too optimistic at times.

And I wouldn't take the "full of crap" statement too personal; he is just very passionate about the Cowboys.

Thank you. No matter what I say it will get taken wrong by people who want to take it wrong. I have never said or even thought I am a "better fan" than someone else. I just don't like negativity in any aspect of life. I find it worthless.

I happen to think you ought to make your posts about topics, and not other posters. That's a far cry from me telling you to keep your mouth shut. I didn't see him say he thinks your opinion is full of crap, but if he did, he's definitely wrong to try to make his thread about anything other than football.
It's in the first two sentences in the OP. No time was wasted getting that out there. You come out with that opening and then try to talk football, it's understandable those who you just called full of crap aren't going to be real receptive to the rest.

I agree with your your take on negativity - I don't watch the news or very much television for that same reason. But there is a fine line between being a pessimist and a realist. I would like to think I walk that fine line for the most part, but sometimes the Cowboys make it really hard to walk straight, in much the same way the proverbial koolaid effects other people.

Yeah. I see it. It wasn't directed at you, but I agree it was baiting and unnecessary.

You made a very good post. It is sad that it flew over some poster's heads.

I'm locking this thread. It's gotten completely off course and the personal jabs have gone on too long, despite the warnings. Remember folks, we have the ignore function.
