Super excellent point. They struggled on defense many of the years that Ware was here.

Not true. Wade's D was top 10 in yardage allowed & sack totals almost every season (exception was his incomplete 2010 season). It was more like the offense was Romo, or bust. Opposing D's stop Romo and Cowboys were dead in the water.

So was DeMarcus Ware, for several years, and the defense was never transformed.

There are 11 guys on the field. 1 guy cannot transform an entire unit. This isn't basketball.
The entire unit was about average depending on what stat you use to measure that. He'll put us in the top 10 of healthy. Maybe transform is too ambiguous. He'll vastly improve our D.

Not seeing it. He would be in the same boat as Ware was. Play too many plays and be tired in the 4th. He frankly is not as good as Ware was as regards the whole game so to think he would make such a difference- I just do not see it.

Every top D had more than one real threat as a pass rusher; we only had it that one year when Ellis and the Rat had career years and in the end that was not even enough.

Using the first letter of the players name and adding train to it, is a very lazy way to generate nicknames. And I'm usually all about the lazy way out. Here's what some zoner nicknames would look like:

@Trouty - T train
@haleyrules - H train
@Ranching - R train
@DFWJC - DFW train
@SeanLee50 would be S Train
@Idgit would be I train and @Sarge would be S Train but since we already have an S Train he might be SA Train
And @MichaelWinicki would be M Train

The defense is what got Wade fired. The defense sucked the 1st half of that season and Jerry fired Wade because of it.

How many years did people here complain about Ware's "empty" sack stats. Every year there was a horde of people saying that Ware didn't get sacks when they really need them but racked them up in garbage time. Spencer was almost universally hated for not getting enough sacks. Fans constantly complained that Ratliff was too small at NT and fans wanted "more beef" in the middle. Every year some at CZ would propose going to a 4-3.

All of those complaints don't happen if the D was great.

Look at Romo's stats over the years. It seems almost impossible for a team to not win big with those stats unless the defense was a problem.

Love seeing a guy whose knee was all but left for dead by a lot of people is in 10 times better shame than D-law who looks like he kills a large pizza with an 18 pack of beer for a snack

I think you've forgotten how badly the offense played in the beginning of 2010 season play calling was atrocious in close games and the time management even worse. D didn't give up until near mid season and when Romo went down. Garrett's culpability in team losses was obvious.

Every season that Ware had double digit sacks:

Team Defensive DVOA:

2006: 14th
2007: 9th
2008: 9th
2009: 10th
2010: 27th
2011: 16th
2012: 23rd

We were a top 10 unit give or take for the 1st 4 years of Demarcus Ware.

Now let's look at our investment in the first two rounds on defense while Ware was Ware.

2006: 1st rounder is Bobby Carpenter
2007: 1st rounder is Anthony Spencer
2008: 1st rounder is Mike Jenkins
2009: Special teams draft
2010: 2nd rounder Sean Lee

It seems that Ware was every bit the transformational player but we whiffed repeatedly with our other defensive selections and the defense crumbled around him.

FWIW, I still think he'd better for us playing outside. But I get that Lee is locked into that spot.
totally agree ; his shoulder bulk doesn't appear heavy enough ,plus I've seen better legs in a bucket of Colonel Sanders.
