I'd still take him over Austin he's actually produce in the NFL unlike Miles crapstin.

I think he's more fruit than vegetable at this stage.

I remember a lot of you wanted him over Miles Austin last season.

Any of you still out there?

Two years ago I wanted him. I'm still here.

Folks who hates BP's drafting should recognize that it likely took a lot of talking to convince Jerry not to take Jones back in 2005

I really doubt that, since Jerry had to over-rule Parcells to take Ware over Spears with the thought that Spears would fall to their second first rounder. Matt Jones went after Spears with the next pick.

Big shocker. The guy can't stay out of trouble now it seems.

Let me point out that if his story is accurate, this latest offense was for drinking some alcohol while playing golf and testing positive for it.

While I think that's a dumb thing in his situation, it wasn't a case of him using illegal drugs or getting drunk and driving or anything really criminally offensive.

I don't think I'd want him in Dallas because he's not a real motivated player and I don't know the extent of his drug problems, but I also don't believe we should make this offense out to be more than it was. It cost him his job with Jacksonville, but shouldn't keep him from getting a low-cost shot with another team.

I understand your response dbair and I'm not saying Dallas should get him, but that coke-sniffing, alcoholic (sp) did have a more productive season than Austin.

And I believe Matt was the 3rd or 4th WR on the depth chart last season.

He was a starter for much of the season last year and showed a lot of improvement on a team missing almost its entire o-line.....but I STILL wouldn't take him.

Several days before the draft there were a ton of reports that the team was taking either Ware or Merriman with their pick and that if both were there they'd choose Ware.

It doesn't surprise me that the idea of taking Spears was discussed, good drafting teams discuss and argue for a variety of scenarios (e.g. if we take Spears is Ware/Merriman going to be there when we pick again?). Of course, "discussing" morphed into "Jerry had to talk him out of it" when the Bill hate got factored in

Yeah, your right he was a starter for much of the season.

With the addition of WR's J. Porter, and Troy Williamson, and they already had Reggie Williams. That puts M. Jones as the 3rd or 4th WR on the depth chart in the begining of last season.

Sorry there was a lot more information out there than that and its fact that Parcells wanted Spears with the first pick. Even on dallascowboys.com radio the guys on there were talking about taking Spears there and hoping Ware would be available with the second pick. Which would have never happened, Ware and Merriman would have been gone. Regardless, Matt Jones wasn't in their plans.

This potential move could be yet another in Jerry's long list of poor GM decisions
