Jaguars sign Jourdan Lewis - 3yr $30 million

I meant signing outside free agents; which means the Cowboys would be actively trying to improve the talent and depth of their roster.

Keeping your own players is necessary but it is not making the team better. It's just maintaining the status quo. The Cowboys are only doing half of what they should be doing in free agency.
You can keep saying that, but it still won't make it true..

if you lose those players it makes you worse, it's the same as this exact post, so if we decide to keep Jlew, it would've been status quo , but instead you count that as a loss and somehow it's a negative, but if he just stayed it wouldn't have been a positive? LMAO

common reasoning, the additions do matter because if they would have not signed, again they would've been holes to fill, just like Lewis..

I mean come on is that too much common sense for you to understand all signings need to be in one spot because they ALL matter, and all losses in another..

it makes more sense this way, not just outside FA, it's our own free agents matter,

again, they leave holes you're saying Lewis didn't leave a hole but if we decide him it had been oh, we like our guys!!:popcorn:

Not gonna lie, I thought he was actually one of the better "our guys" at his position and wish they could have retained him.

With the increase of salary cap folks the contracts are getting bigger and higher even for mid tier players. Stephen Jones is going to kill this franchise if he doesn’t understand that!

Too late, that goose has been decapitated, plucked and stuffed. All that's left is to shove it into the oven, set it to flambé and another season that went no where can be celebrated.

By the way this is probably the Cowboys looking down the road you can't keep everyone Duran bland's about to get paid do you see what JC horns contract is 4 years $100 million we already have Trayvon diggs under contract,

we're going to have to find suitable replacements in the draft or journeyman to fill the void.. I mean Butler's there ,maybe Carson will be better in the slot than he was outside.... I mean we have options sometimes you got to make tough decisions and this is 1 I believe they made because they see bland coming down the stretch. I could be wrong but typically my understanding is it's much harder to fill the outside corners than it is the slot so I think they're gonna be OK they're trying to keep bland as an outside guy of the future and just finding a new lewis simple as that teams are all going through it..

I mean even the eagles they just released Darius slay and I hear Bradbury is gone so they're gonna have to fill holes too.. I'm pretty sure slay was a pretty damn good player and they let him go anyway cap casualties..

What you said is 100 percent correct. Like I said in my first post, keeping your own players is often necessary. But it is not the only thing teams have to do in free agency; it's just the bare minimum.

The Cowboys have enough cap room to make a number of moves that can improve the talent and depth of this roster at several positions. They have not made any aggressive moves in at least a decade. You cannot just keep "your guys", add some tier 2 and 3 talent, and expect the team to get better.

The teams that have made deep playoff runs and won Super Bowls over the past several years are the ones that made splash moves in free agency that separated them from the rest of the pack.

The Cowboys have been cheap and/or inactive in free agency and we see the results year after year. Even during the three straight 12-5 seasons, once the playoffs began Dallas did not measure up against the teams they needed to beat to win a Super Bowl. Because they were going against teams that made moves to elevate them from being "good" to "great".

The Cowboys are happy with just being "good". So they do the same thing year in, year out expecting different results. It's the definition of lunacy and the past 29 seasons say it all.

Problem is it becomes very difficult to spend $60M in cap as free agency goes on. Not saying people should be overreacting to day 1, but we should probably be looking at this from a matter of weeks and not months. Months from now you're looking at signing the Erik Kendricks and Linval Joseph types. Not that that is a bad thing, but those guys cost about $5M combined last year. The Cowboys have a chance to legitimately fill holes on the roster with some 2nd wave guys. This isnt a great FA class though so we can only let so many guys go before we actually jump on an opportunity.
Kendricks signed on day 4 last year.

The Eagles drafted Mitchell and DeJean knowing they would cut Slay and Bradberry. And they just won the Super Bowl. Cutting some guys and paying the price down the road is a small price to pay for being Champions.

The Cowboys keep being financially responsible for a "next year" that never arrives. The Eagles can pay the price and point to a Super Bowl. The Cowboys don't pay a price and point to nothing the past three decades.

you all think you're a bunch of comedians in here you do realize this happens all around the league apparently honest offers are not being made to many players or free agent list wouldn't be so big trades are happening all over the place that means other teams are also losing players and good ones at that...

Where do you think this big wish list comes from where everybody wants to sign these free agents and you think they all came from the Cowboys apparently other teams have to make tough decisions and they lose players they like to keep... These are salary cap casualties you can't keep everyone I don't know what other offers he had but three years 30 million apparently 10 million per was a little much for a nickel corner that plays a slot mostly if he's the highest paid at 10 that means there aren't that many huge salaries for those guys I'm sorry to see him leave but let's stop making a mockery at the system this is not a cowboy issue this is a league issue this is where all these players are coming from large pools of free agents are players just like Jordan Lewis who are being taken by other teams off other teams....
We made an honest offer.

Unless you did the same with the QB. That would have made it all make sense.
They could have signed Dak cheaper earlier. One problem Jerry has is letting others set the market. But Lewis was cheap. Just over 2 mil and even last year that was a no brainer. If you want guys cheap you have to get them when they are cheap

Kendricks signed on day 4 last year.
Did he? I was thinking he signed later on, but I could be wrong. Regardless, with some exceptions that is about the type of FA signing you will see after the draft. And from a productivity standpoint Kendricks is about the best case scenario for a $3M free agent.

Jerry it's ok relax, you are doing a great job.

Osa would be nice at the right price...but if Osa was all that...why did we draft Mazi?
Different player but they thought mazi, because he’s a freak athlete they could make a football player out of him. They were wrong. But Lewis was cheap. 4-5 mil a year you could have locked him up 3-4 years. Now he’s getting 10
