Let’s not get ridiculous. Hopefully Ferguson can improve on his 19 catches. I think the kid could be a Shultz type eventually.
I've never seen an entire fanbase(almost) woefully underrate a player as badly as most do Schultz. He wasn't elite of course, but he is a good solid TE and a decent blocker. If Fergie doesn't pan out, we will miss him. Luckily, it appears that Fergie will be good.

You are so right. Shultz was awesome against Tampa but all anyone remembers was that brain fart against San Francisco. I think he plays well for the Texans.
Ferguson has talent. Let’s hope he earns Dak’s trust before we crown him though.

He is definitely already ‘Dalton-capable‘. I’m sure he’ll make a few rookie-esque mental mistakes but I agree with OP in that I saw a lot of national media types spell doom and gloom for us without Schultz, not understanding Ferguson’s potential because he wasn’t your typical facetime big player. Only us fans saw the frequent hints of his big play capability. And already convinced Schoo will be a solid depth provider, especially with the blocking. Not worried about the TEs or WRs at all.

Schultz had 2-3 blown blocking assignments, and I think they were at really bad times during the game. Newsflash, all players, no exceptions, have blown assignments.

It was just so strange how so many leeched onto these 3 bad plays and completely ignored his rare ability to get open and awesome YAC ability.

No, he isn't. Not yet. I do believe he is a Schultz clone and will be fine, but we won't know until the test comes this season.

I didn't see anything from Schooner that makes me believe he'll be a quality starter. Way too early in his career to make a solid assessment yet, for sure!!!

and don't forget his awesome Olivia Newton-John sweat band. "come on lets get physical, just not when we need you to block, physical" :)

Agreed. That was a fan thing. Just as I think Ferguson is underrated by the national media, because all they know is Dalton, I think fans can overwatch the game and in an attempt to be the armchair coach, and generalize the player’s consistency just on a few facetime plays.

I’m not proclaiming Schoo as Mr. All Pro but I do think he’s shown enough in the preseason that he can play at this level and be at least solid depth. Basically, what Ferguson was to Dalton last year.

this new 0LD system MM employs uses the tightend alot and quick easy short stuff. This is just what we need with Dak. Get him in rhythm and keep him on schedule. Can't rely on 7 step drops, especially with questionable line play. I expect we will see Ferguson and company used a ton in this game. Its the way we can win.

I still don’t understand why he didn’t take the contract the Cowboys offered him. It seemed like a good contract for him and the team. Our draft would have been much different if he signed that extension. Just strange……

I think Shoo has shown enough that he won’t be a bust, but yeah, would have been nice to continue the Schultz/Ferguson rotation, and spend that high draft pick on an improved offensive lineman, if there wasn’t enough money or talent to go higher than Edoga In free agency.

X millions.

Schultz was getting some very bad advice from his agent. He should consider changing agents, if he hasn't already.

Reminds me of our light hitting defensive catcher on the Astros, Maldonado. We offered him 10 mil/season for 2 years. His agent refused the contract. He ended up taking half that. He immediately fired that agent.

Schoon is not an issue. It’s just that maybe the Cowboys would have drafted the top player on their board instead having to take a tight end.

Edoga has been injury prone from the start. Terrible signing. I have no idea why Jerry ignores when players are prone to injuries, but it's the gift that keeps on giving.

Meanwhile, the Titans signed Daniel Brunskill to play OG, and he can play all 5 OL positions.

There were a myriad of quality OL's signed this offseason, and we ended up w/ the guy who can't stay on the field.

I still consider it a luxury pick w/ Fergie and Hendershot on board.

Maybe. I don’t think they like McKeon as much as the Broaddus says they do. We will see how they use those three(Ferguson, Hendershot, Schoonmaker) soon enough.
