Hardest part to evaluate is to see what they have in between the ears, and how that translates into a "dawg" mentality on the field against opposing defenders.

Being good and competitive against your friends is one thing. Being competitive and scrappy against another NFL pro who is smarter and more physically talented than you is another thing.

For the young players who have two to three camps under their belt, and haven't broke through the lineup do they have enough grit and dawg in them to take it to the next level and grab snaps or a spot away from another player?

If not you then do the Landry rule, and go find another guy. Fast special teams guys who can run and tackle aren't really a scarce commodity. They need to bring more.

One of the best Cowboys examples was Miles Austin. Let's see if Fehoko or Tolbert could be the next Miles.

I think it's telling that I am not confident that our 3rd round pick from last year can even be our #4 WR. I think our best chance at getting something out of that spot may be if Turpin steps up and shows he can add something to the offense. Hopefully Tolbert looks good in camp because he isn't going to be active on game day unless he does. Whomever claims that last game day roster spot is going to need to run down on kickoffs and punts because none of the other 4 WRs that are active are going to do so.

I know,. It's just a boring off-season locker room interview. But this one is important to me, because I think this team is on the cusp of greatness, and the reporters did an outstanding job asking him difficult soft-ball questions (see what I did there?). Tolbert basically said he isn't attempting some bust-and-run heist on the Cowboys for picking him that high, just so he can slouch off and rake in the money like Zeke (juust kidding) thinking he could just rely on natural athleticism. I'm not around Tolbert to see what he does with his time. But that's not necessary. He showed up to camp looking as ripped as Cheech and Chong. I can tell just from that two-minute interview that his head is in the right place, his thoughts are legitimate, his humble approach is a strength, and that he's plenty capable of learning, and physically gifted enough to play at this level.

I actually like that he has sort of a chip on his shoulder this year.

He was just frustrated last year. I'm betting that once the gloves came off and the pads came on, he had the epiphany that he was not in Kansas anymore. You can bet your butts the media has stashed that catch-phrase just in-case Vaughn has a lackluster game during his rookie season.

I'm not getting soft in my support for Tolbert, and it's good to see he's not getting soft on Dallas. Interesting bit about learning from T.Y. because that's how you learn, grow and improve. Everyone starts somewhere, and he's not making excuses so I like it.

I was a little worried about our depth at WR, but Tolbert and Fehoko both have some time with the team now.

I just wanted to reiterate, for the record, I'd be for adding a player like Hopkins and definitely Dalvin Cook, if there's any substance behind that rumor.
Ripped like Cheech and Chong.
Good figurative metaphor.
In fact, nice and funny post overall, especially the Kansas reference.

What is it that he actually "gets".... because nothing has happened yet, no actual real practices or TC... much less real games. Let's idle a bit, and wait til all this happens and see what it is that he got. Line up on the correct side of the LOS?

No margin of error, he's not going to be given as much opportunity this season with a healthy Gallup and the acquisition of Cooks.

Many held the hope, last season, that he could develop into a #2. He is not the only strong candidate for #4 receiver.

Did you listen to the interview? Did you read the article about him last week? Did you hear his interview last week? Did you read his scouting reports before the draft? Did you read the post season report about him and why he struggled?

You have to look beyond "he was so bad last year" or "guy played in like 1 game last year and looked awful in preseason play" to find out the true story of what's going on.

There is a reason the Cowboys took him in the 3rd round. The Tolbert we see this September will be much different than before.
You seem very excited.
