6'2"
230 lbs.

Currently listed as a SS on Cowboys official site.

From Draft scout his 40 times range
Low: 4.56 - high: 4.77
average time: 4.66

vertical: 38
Broad: 10.01
20yd: 4.50
3 cone: 7.48

Conversion projects are never easy in the NFL, but considering the wide open job market for a starting safety currently, I would say Showers is worth paying attention to.

I remember when a couple of years back a poster who never tires of telling us how much football he knows used to tell us how jamiell showers would be the next starting QB of the Cowboys lol

Nothing wrong with looking but it's not about a starter. If you could get a st player and depth that would be great but rarely wirks

If Pryor could move to WR I don't think it's crazy to think showers could move to SS. Both are better atheletes than qbs.

One of the greatest safeties to wear the star was Charlie Waters who was a QB at Clemson. He was was converted to CB and failed miserably. They moved him to safety and he flourished. The key to his success besides his athletic ability: he was very smart.

How smart is Showers?

He's got great size for the position and his 40 times are reasonable, but as you said it is a very difficult conversion. Someone here mentioned Pryor's conversion to wide receiver, but that's actually easier for a quarterback than becoming a safety.

Obviously, based on what we have in the defensive backfield, it would be great if Showers could make the switch. I'm not relying on it, but it would be great.

As Parcels once said...he's a biscuit away from a LB...if his 40 times are more toward the 4.77 them maybe a bit slow for a SS. Not sure, what are SS usual speed ranges?
And for some reason, they want undersized players at some positions. So put him at LB, we need them too.

My question is, does he have the mentality to hit, and hit hard. You are a QB, it is taught that you avoid hits. So can he now have the hiiting attitude of a Church, Wilcox, Heath, or a draft pick that has actual game experience.

This will be interesting to watch and see.

The Cowboys have obviously seen something in Showers that they like. I'd like to see him succeed on D, even if it's just solid depth. We'll see what happens after the draft.....

Dallas made the move after pre season of last year to move Showers to Safety. How much he has learned during the season as part of PS I have no idea, he did look good when he was put on special teams in pre season so at least I know he is willing and able to tackle

That is actually the only reason I would be optimistic about Showers. As a rookie competing for a roster spot he played Special Teams and made some big hits in preseason games. QBs shy away from contact obviously, but very few are willing to play on coverage teams - much less make big hits while doing so.

Waters is a great example, though it obviously remains to be seen with Showers. For his football IQ, I have to think he is smart enough or they wouldn't have kept him on the PS and tried this conversion in the first place.

Starting safety? I'd give that about a .001% chance. Making the 53 over Frazier/whoever? Maybe about a 10% chance.
