The Cowboys have obviously seen something in Showers that they like. I'd like to see him succeed on D, even if it's just solid depth. We'll see what happens after the draft.....

They must see something in him because he doesn't seem to just go away.

He was a decent CB until Harold Jackson lit him up for four TDs of more than 50 yards.

I played ball against him so I know his speed. It was elite at the time even if his 40s (which I don't remember) showed. I know his brother very well and his family. He could play CB although he was never a great CB. He was a much better S IMO but I'd love to talk to him. I just rarely even talk with his brother anymore. His brother may have been the better all around athlete BTW. I played against both of them.

That's cool you played against him. Your aging yourself. ;)

I have the book he co-wrote with Cliff Harris. One of the stories is how he was afraid he was going to get cut as a rookie because he was the slowest between him, Cliff Harris and Mark Washington. The coaches lined them all up and made them run the forty together and they all ran the same time. The Cowboys decided to keep all three; we all know how that turned out.

Ahhhh.....
The smell of desperation in the air
Brings back memories

I remember when a couple of years back a poster who never tires of telling us how much football he knows used to tell us how jamiell showers would be the next starting QB of the Cowboys lol
That may have been me, but I've never said anything about how much football I know. But I did often say that Showers could be Dallas' next QB (often tongue in cheek).

I often included that, as a UTEP alum, I am very biased when it comes to UTEP players

That said, the basic things I said about Showers still stand: good size, athletic, smart, tough, mature. It's the things you want in a player. Does he have what it takes to be a starting SS? No. but as depth and a special teams guy, he will play with the kind of toughness that let guys like Bill Bates stick around

Man, talk about "running for your life".

He was actually fairly fast but he got hurt in one of those college all-star bowl games and was not 100%.

Harris and Washington both ran in the 4.5-4.6 range but on that day, if I remember correctly, they all ran a 4.7.
