Janoris Jenkins talks Cowboys on Ben & Skin

I said the same about dez for years. It's our offensive system and why I hate it. We use dez as a decoy alot. How about let's use routes and plays to get our best players the ball.

Dez man routes are fly's, comebacks and maybe a hook. Rarely do dez get drags routes and etc to get him the ball on the move. Rarely do they run routes that take dez over the middle of the field. It's Garrett offense not dez.

If dez ever left and went to KC, or worked with Sean Payton we would see. Our offensive system limits dez ability. That's why it's so easy to shut him down. U can guess kind of what he will run.

I am sure all of this is pretty accurate regarding Dak, but I will bet we won't lose against them more than once in the next 3 seasons. Dak will put in the time to not allow that to happen again. Have to remember every defense he saw last year he was seeing for the first or second time ever. With that in mind, he had a 104 QB rating. That's ridiculous. How well will he play when he's seen it all a few times?

I'm surprised this hasn't gotten more air play.

Anyway, Ben & Skin (105.3 The Fan, Dallas) interviewed Giants Pro Bowl CB, Janoris Jenkins the other day.
 Nothing directly bad about the Cowboys in general, but let's just say he said a few things that might ruffle some feathers.

No direct quotes here, but in general, here are a few notes:
Dont shoot the messenger.

Dez part 1
Jenkins, who is now rated a top 4 CB in the league, said his job is to follow Dez everywhere and shut him down.
Asked how he felt he did, he said look at the stats...he dominated.
Btw, I checked it out and on paper, hes right.
Total domination both games....and Giants wins.
Game 1....1 catch for 8 yards.
Game 2...1 catch for 10 yards on a whopping 9 targets
Wow

Dez part 2
Jenkins says Dez runs mostly only 3 routes and there's not much mystery about it.
Because Dez is not especially fast, it helps even more.
And because hes not a brilliant route runner, well, that helps even more.
Sure sounds like, ad many here say, Dallas needs to be more creative.

Dak and Tony
Garrett and Linehan has nicely said that against the Giants in particular, Dak had trouble telling when they were in zone or man. And in general, Spagnola was able to confuse him.
So Ben/Skin asked Jenkins what he thought. He laughed and said absolutely. No doubt. They felt confident that Dak was confused and they had the upper hand. He again mentioned that they won both games and generally shut down Dallas (the games were close because Dallas' defense did well too).
Then they asked if he would've felt the same with Romo playing. His face got serious and he said no, that guys like Brady, Romo, and Brees (his words) would see the disguises quickly....that it would be way harder.
Fwiw, in the last 4 years Dallas is 5-0 with Romo and 0-3 without him vs the Giants.

Imo, thats now old news, the page is turned, Dak is our QB, and he will get better vs New York.

Just surprised there hasnt been more said about the Dez stuff.

They won 13 without Romo. Mike drop.
What does that have to do with anything?

You can dream about "Mike Drop" but in reality this post is more like a comedian telling a joke and getting silence from the audience.

Man.

Dez is a very talented WR. I think he's overpaid, but whatever. He was never leaving Jerry Jones' Dallas Cowboys, so it's moot.

He struggles to beat double coverage, and he often struggles when singled up v. elite CBs. Not always. He's a beast in the redzone, and he plays on an offense that will not feed him the ball. And everything he does is magnified by a factor of 4 or 5 in the press. His route running was limited early, but it's gotten a lot better. He runs more than three routes.

Otherwise, he's a hardworking dude and appears to be a great teammate. I have no idea why he engenders hate from Cowboys fans, since he's relatively productive and an example of a rehabilitation attempt that worked well. You'd like people would just appreciate him, but he's a lightening rod for whatever reason and that's probably always going to be the case.

Dak was great.
That'd be pretty sweet if we win 5 or 6 of our next 6 against the Giants. I'll take it.

i make me laugh and that's enough, lol I don't know anyone here to worry about the rest and don't post to collect likes. Third grade ended about 40 years ago bub. And what it has to do with is the comment "they won the three games they played without Dez." The same can be said about Romo, (who I like). But either way they can apparently move on from both and not miss a beat.

Patrick Peterson was miked up his rookie year against Dez and he can be heard telling his team it's easy he "ain't got nothin' but three routes"

Here we are 6 years later and we hear the same thing from another top corner in the league.

Either Dez can't run other routes or our offense doesn't call for him to run more routes. You decide which.

Dez doesn't even do a good job w/the routes he does have. If he doesn't commit more effort to his craft--has has been nationally discussed...he will finish his career w/tons of untapped potential.

Romo didn't play this season so nobody is giving him credit for part of the 13-3 season.

Not rocket science to say Romo is better than Dak at this stage.
The trick is can Rono be counted on longer term?
They have a 23 year old rising star in Dak, and feel sure that they CAN count on that.
They'd prefer not to screw with that.
In the nfl nothing is a sure thing not even dak

Even if TWill went out of bounds Bailey would've had to make a 63 yard field goal
OK. Line him up and give him his chance. In a dome off fake grass I love his chances.

But TWill ran out of bounds so I guess we'll never know.

Well, game 1 was essentially Dez first game healthy in close to a year with a new QB...

The second game, the whole team was not particularly good...

And Dez is what Dez is, he's not likely going to ever be the typical number 1 receiver, not sure if it matters if we have a 1000 yard receiver in our offence...our offence is built to run the ball, control the clock and grind teams down, now quick someone let JG and SL in on that.

I need to review that play. I had in mind there would have been about 10 seconds remaining if he had gone out of bounds. That would be enough to run another play before attempting a fieldgoal.

Dak reads defenses like a vet... one more year of film study and no D coordinator is fooling him

The Giants had him confused and really looking like a rookie.

I can't wait until next game vs Giants.

Dak will make people forget about that bs giant talk.

It's important to remember that early in his career, Steve Spagnuolo gave Romo fits as well. It was about 2-3 years into his career as a starter that Romo became the pre-read, cerebral QB we have come to know.

Good post!!

Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins completely shut down Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant in two matchups last season. And the reason wasn't very complicated.

"I played better than he played," Jenkins told Dallas radio station 105.3 The Fan last week. "For real, though, to be honest, when you look at film and you break down your opponents and the receivers that you're facing, you notice what they like to do. Take away the slant and the dig, and when they get in 21 personnel and Dez is inside the numbers, you take away the corner post. He doesn't have nothing else."

Jenkins made it look that simple last season. Bryant had one catch for eight yards in the Giants' 20-19 win in the season opener. Bryant then had one catch for 10 yards, which Jenkins promptly stripped for a crucial fumble, in the Giants' 10-7 win over the Cowboys in Week 14.

Revealing more than defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo would probably like, Jenkins provided a detailed breakdown of how he covered Bryant.

Jenkins said he was primarily concerned with a slant route when the Cowboys had third-and-medium. If the Cowboys had third-and-long, Jenkins knew a dig route was coming. If Jenkins pressed Bryant in man-coverage, a fade route was typically the response.

"Everything's got to be a double move to get him open because he's not fast," Jenkins said.

I have no problem with anything Jenkins is saying. It's true. He also goes on to show some respect in his other quotes and admit that Dez is probably going to get the better of him in some of their future matchups.
