Jarwin should be a big upgrade over 2019 Witten

He’s a lock for the Hall of Fame and although his blocking skills had diminished he was far from a joke his last three seasons with the Cowboys. He put up 195 catches and 12 TDs his last three seasons and was still a consistent chain mover.
Witten was a joke the past 3 or 4 years. A punch line.

Says you. He clearly had declined but if he was a “joke“ the Cowboys wouldn’t have brought him back and the Raiders wouldn’t have signed him.

Yeah. He was a complete clown. That’s why the guy who brought him back is no longer with us.

You sound like a typical casual fan. Once a great players skills have eroded you trash them.

I can't wait for next season, just to see what people say around here. I got a funny feeling the TE position is not going to be very productive. Guess We'll see.

Jason Witten is probably a hall of famer but he was an absolute joke his last 3 or 4 years here. He couldn’t block your grandmother the last several years. Those that are touting his blocking ability were not paying attention the last several years. He was less than a shell of his former self.
You are a damn liar. His games are on video. You are welcome to show where his blocking was bad for the three seasons or you can just shut the hell up. Or you can just save yourself the time and just shut the hell up. 3 season's worth of bad blocking by Witten is not out there because it doesn't exist because it did not happen. Put up or shut up!

My goodness, you are in the land of rainbows and unicorns if you really believe this. Lol.
You are welcome to show us where Witten has been a bad blocker for the last 3 seasons or you can kiss my rainbows and unicorns where the sun don't shine.

Witten was a waste of space.

Receiving wise Jarwin is a way bigger play threat. Blocking though won't be quite as good, but could be mute if we actually commit to a FB.

Im just not in denial how bad he was.
He obviously has lost a step but your recollection of his blocking is just flat out wrong. He is a future HoF'er but he no longer plays to that caliber. Even when recognizing his losing a step, his blocking is still better than Jarwin.

LOL, Still a better blocker than any TE the Cowboys currently have... especially Jarwin who doesn't know how to block at all. I'm sure the new coaching staff will work with Jarwin on this so let's all hope he gets better.

It is pretty telling that Mm wanted no part of having Witten around.
That's a disingenuous statement. Witten wanted to join the coaching staff as a TE position coach but MM said he had not earned that job yet. He welcomed Witten to join his staff but it was going to be a beginner's position in quality control. Witten didn't like that offer so he had to make alternate plans to make money. He let his pride convince him he is worth more as a coach than he actually is to McCarthy. There is no evidence MM didn't want Witt back as a TE, that was Witten's butt hurt decision after being told he would have to start at the beginning as a coach.

He would have been fine as a #2 guy, and in fact a very good receiving #2 guy. He problem was only in continuing to use him as a #1 TE

Quite honestly it was hard to watch Jason Witten last season. He didn't belong on the field in any aspect. The offense should dramatically improve with him now in Las Vegas:

-Opposing teams didn't fear Witten what so ever. They knew he could no longer beat teams up the seam, getting any kind of yards after the catch and more of a liability as an inline blocker.

-Jarwin maybe never become an asset as a inline blocker at the position, but has legitimate receiving skills that opposing defenses must account for. He is going to see the most favorable match-ups within the entire offense and should finally breakout this season with more opportunities. We saw a glimpse of what he can do in a larger role during the season finale two years ago against the Giants.
Jarwin has had every chance to prove that he is a starting quality TE, but he has yet to prove it. I think he is a pass catching TE that doesn’t have the skills to be an all around starter. He made some big plays last year which causes him to be vastly overrated around here, even if he can’t block.

Source for this?

Witten rubbed me the wrong way when he left after the draft for a broadcasting position then came crawling back after he stunk it up in the booth. He was a fantastic TE that is definitely shoe-in for HoF, but his better days were behind him. Yes, he was still better at blocking, but every rep he got hampered the progress and learning of the guys behind him.
