Jarwin vs Ebron?

I thought Ebron would be a target but I think this is a case of the staff liking Jarwin more and the free agents all having too many warts. Dallas always had Witten and prioritized blocking at that position, this seems like the McCarthy scenario of adjusting your scheme to the players you have.

It's actually a great deal regarding Jarwin. They extended him for 4 years, with an AAV of 5.5 mil. However, he only got 4mil in signing bonus and only his first year has a guaranteed base.

Basically, if he crashes and burns they can get rid of him in a year or two even with minimal dead cap.
If he plays well, his cap hits are extremely reasonable.
3.25 mil this year
5.25 next
6.25 2022
7.25 mil 2023

Peanuts considering what Kittle and others will get with the rising cap.

If they REALLY prioritized blocking Witten would not have been on the roster for several years.

Jarwin caught 76 percent of his targets.

Off to see what Ebron.

(I make enough of my own mistakes without the help of auto-carrot.)

Yeah I think people remember Ebron for what he was with Detroit. Which he was inconsistent there but he looked to have potential. I think this is what he is. I think Jarwin has higher upside due to his ability to run after the catch. I

Jarwin is a budding star. He will shine. Ebron is up and down...drops passes. This was the better signing getting Jarwin.

And they know what they are getting in Jarwin. Seen him in camp since his rookie year.

Ebron IMO has the higher peak, but has been inconsistent his entire career.

Jarwin got a 4 year deal I think, and Ebron got 2.

I personally think Jarwin has more upside.
I do too as well.

Plus, there are many who felt like Ebron quit on his team last year. Although the talent is there, we don't need that type of personality on the team.

Football Outsiders had Jarwin and Witten catching 76 percent of their targets.

Ebron grabbed 60 percent.

for 2019

Scouting reports at draft time showed both to not be great blockers, but both are athletic. Jarwin has better catching skills. Cowboys made a good choice by paying Jarwin and getting a team friendly contract.

Jarwin's contract is very team friendly. If he is absolutely terrible this season they can cut him without a humongous cap hit in 2021. His contract comes across as four 1 year prove it deals. If he proves it, then he gets a little more base salary each year. If he doesn't, then they can cut ties rather easily. His cap number in 2020 is $3.25 million and in 2021 is $5.25 million. His contract definitely doesn't prohibit Dallas from finding another tight end if they want.
