Up here in D.C. (actually, I'm in Orlando at the moment for work)...we're kind of excited for Campbell. Gibbs has taken a liking to him. He's sat for a year holding the clip board, and will most likely go into next season as the #2.

Lets be honest. Brunell playing like 18 games this year was a miracle. He won't stay healthy like that for another season. So, maybe Jason gets on the field.

I think the Pennington, Palmer route of young NFL QB's is a wise one. At least sit the guy for a chunk of his rookie season, if not the whole thing.

Will he be elite? I don't know. Is he a bust? I don't know how anybody can tell that now. My only memory of him is from the Baltimore preseason game, and I remember him doing pretty well. Fast enough to scramble, but not so fast that he'll tuck it down too early, and try running.

So, I guess this is a "Stay tuned" situation.

He has the physical stuff to be an NFL QB.....now we wait and see if he has the smarts.

Why? Because you think gimp-leg Brunell can last another full year, and play at the same level? I doubt that. Springs, one of their defensive cogs, struggled with injury this year, and is only getting older. Even if they pull off a cap miracle, they have little to no money to seriously upgrade their team. They have no legit recieving threat after Moss. It was obvious teams had figured out what was going on with their little PA rollouts by the end of the year, and their WR screens, which seemed to be about 40% of their offense.

I've got to tell you, I'm unimpressed.
It amazes me how anyone with Bledsoe as their QB can make fun of Brunnell's mobility.

I hope you are right HH. I certainly didn't think his college career didn't justify a 1st rounder, and the skins also gave other picks to get him.

Did you even watch him at Auburn? I doubt it-you just think he's the man cause the crypt keeper drafted him. I watched a LOT of Auburn football during his time there. He was certainly not a mobile QB. He was a pocket passer who rarely made plays with his legs. His 30 yards rushing on 58 attempts in 2004 were quite impressive, only to be topped by -1 on 73 attempts in 2003. He was sacked 52 times the last three years. So next time do a little research before you get your rear end up on your shoulders because I criticized the object of your man lust.

I wont really say Campbell is Carter since he has his head in the game and has the size to be a decent QB but im sorry, deadskins fans, he is no better than Ramsey and he will be the bust of the century. The only thing the deadskins should pray for is that he develop to a Big Ben type of QB where he doesnt have to be phenomenal to win a game. Just 150-200 yards passing and hand the ball over to the RBs and hope the defense holds up. The deadskins have the defense to groom a QB and need one more RB to add to the stable to pound the rock. One thing with Campbell is that he is accurate as was shown by his QB completion in his 4 years at Auburn (61% or better) and accuracy is something you cant teach. He also has the size and the height and might turn out to be the hidden treasure in last years draft. i hope he is not, i hope he plays one game, gets tackled by Roy, breaks a leg and files for retirment. I hope the deadskins remain in a rebuilding phase forever. I hope they dont win a game ever again!!

And where exactly did I make fun of Brunell's mobility? The last two seasons he has had problems with his legs. This results in a dramatic loss of productivity in the Commanders passing game. It has nothing to do with him moving, because he still does that passably well, but he can't turn the ball loose, and the offense suffers.

It amazes me how, whenever a fan has no legitimate response to a concern raised about a player, it reverts back to this stock response;

"How can you talk? You've got (player so and so) on your team."

As if that should suppress my opinions on other players around the league.

there is no comparrison between these two at all. Campell is 10 X's the QB Carter ever could have been. That being said, I still think Campell was a late 2 or early 3 pick and the skins wasted a pick that early for him. I have been an Auburn fan just as long as I have been a Cowboys Fan, over 30 years. I watched this kid his whole career at Auburn. He will be a decent qb in this league. He has all the tools, except he does struggle to read defense's at times. That will prob be his only hold up in this league. But he is a smart kid that won't lose games for his team. He understands the game, his dad is a HS Coach and a pretty good one, so he grew up learning the game with a personal coach, that can only help i would think. To say he will only be good if the skins have the best O line, best D and best running game, well can't that be said about any QB in this league? Campell is the defination of a Bus Driver type QB and he will be successful with the right game plan. Carter was/is a bum that should have never played ONE NFL Snap in his life.

As long as that's me giving the Skins troll the mule kick to the groin, that's fine by me. :lmao2:

Ok, drug issues aside, lets look at what Quincy Carter did here.

Everyone just assumes the guy had no talent because he failed here, but he had a pretty good arm and nice physical skills. All the scouting reports said so, and I remember when he was in college he was regarded as a darkhorse heisman candidate and rising star. Wasn't ready to play, needed about 2 seasons of development said the scouts. So can anyone honestly say they were shocked when he didnt come out and light it up? I believe in his 3rd year he went something like 3400 yards, 58%, 17 tds, 20 ints. Which is what i would expect out of a QB in what was his 15th-30th starts. I can't really say he was all that bad, nor can I really say that he would have never improved as so many here were fond of saying. Nor can I say he would have been a good or great QB. Last year with the Jets he did play very well in Pennington's absence, i think he ended up with a qb rating in the 90s in what, 4 games?

As far as Jason Campbell goes, his talent was compared to Quincy's quite often during his recruitment at AU. He was considered the best QB prospect in the Southeast but stunk for 3 seasons at auburn before getting it all together with a team full of stars. Do I think Jason can succeed in the NFL? Sure, anyone with physical talent can. Its all a matter of getting your head in the game. I don't know if he'll ever be good, seeing as how he was a huge disappointment at AU and only succeeded when he got an insane team around him. At least he doesn't have the personal issues quincy has, obviously. I do know one thing: on no planet would Jason Campbell have been a 1st round draft pick. Skins reached BIG TIME on that guy.

Also remember, as a poster above said "Gibbs knows qbs he got to 3 superbowls with 3 different ones" Yeah, but can you honestly say that Rypien and Doug Williams were really any good? It was more like Gibbs got a couple of decent years out of his otherwise very average QBs.

No doubt Quincy Carter had talent and could have had a nice role in the NFL as a backup or maybe a starter in the right system with the right people around him.

He just had too many issues and as a Coach, you cannot be kept up at night hoping your starting Quarterback doesnt get a 4 Game suspension or do something totally irrational.

He could play though.
