You've missed the point entirely. A player isn't disqualified from being an RKG just because they're troubled. A person can still be troubled AND have the other intangibles that JG is looking for (passionate about the game of football, desire to win, desire to compete, etc). Therefore, they're not "lowering their standards" at all by giving a player such as Boyd a look.

'Troubled'

A nice term with an excuse built right in.

He's not a bad guy, he's just 'troubled'.

I haven't missed anything. It's a ridiculous term used when it suits them, signifying nothing.

This team has been desperate before and signed bad guys who can play football. And for various reasons, they've found themselves in the position of lowering their standards again.

If Garrett wants a term to describe a player's talents, pick a better one.

Say he's a good football player, don't say he's the 'right kind of guy'.

He uses it when character is present and says nothing when they sign guys like this one.
