This story's just gross, but it appears Boyd wasn't directly involved with the rape (he wasn't one of the players in the room, at least) Here are some of the details:

“Most laypeople cannot break a door frame, so they started looking at the football players,” said one person who is working on the case. Authorities eventually came to believe Vandenburg had intercourse with the Oklahoma woman while she was unconscious, while three other football players said to have been in room at some point in the night were charged as well. A Nashville grand jury is accusing all four of aggravated rape and sexual battery, for which they have all pleaded not guilty. Defense attorneys have pointed out that just because all four have been charged with rape does not mean all four had intercourse with the victim. To use an analogy, two suspects who enter a bank together can be charged with robbery even if only one pulls a gun and demands money.

And here's the notes re: Boyd:

A second indictment was handed down on Aug. 16 implicating three additional men: one with being an accessory after the fact for supposedly telling Vandenburg via text message to delete the video, and two others with tampering with evidence for, according to sources, deleting video and images of the incident from their phones. One of the men is Chris Boyd, Vanderbilt’s 6’4”, 205-pound star wide receiver who has been suspended. The other two are former teammates of Vandenburg’s from Southern California, Miles Finley and Joey Quinzio.

On top of supposedly moving the passed out girl from the hallway to her bed, which doesn't indicate much one way or another without knowing if he knew at that point that she'd been raped.

What's worse about this story, is that Coach Franklin, Vandy's HC, might have seen the video prior to the story coming out, too. Yuck.

Why Garrett? Isn't it Jerry Jones, the GM, who signs players? (Not sure of the process here, sorry)

So, does this mean he saw the video and told people to delete it? And that is what he was suspended for?

It still isn't good, but it's a lot better than what I was believing was the case early in this thread.

How does anyone know he helped cover it up. If he wasn't present how did he know, other than what they told him. I'm don't think his friends initially said, hey we raped a girl can you help us move her....
He most likely found out later. Now maybe he should have questioned it more, but he's a young kid starting college. But we don't know the entire circumstances from an article giving the basics of him being kicked off the team. Not the actual events of the crime.

Theres something missing from the story. He was able to keep his scholarship and still go to school, that doesn't sound like someone they were worried about having around.

One, that's not what RKG means.

Common misconception on this board: RKG primarily identifies an individual as being a boy scout, choir boy, nice guy lacking a mean streak, or in any general sense a "goody two shoes". When in reality it basically means a person who is extremely passionate about the game of football and as a result has the desire and motivation to be dedicated, disciplined, and determined to improve their craft in order to help the team win.

A person is not disqualified from being an RKG just because they may have some character flaws.

Yes, from what I have read, the guys involved panicked and called Boyd for advice. He met them at a restaurant where they discussed what happened and he told them to delete the video. He also apparently ended up at the scene where he helped move the girl to her bed. I have also read that he lied to police about his involvement after the fact. Since being charged, he has supposedly been fully cooperative. He got put in a very tough situation. He counted these guys as friends and teammates and had his promising football career derailed for helping them in a time of need. I can't say I wouldn't have done the same thing depending on which of my friends it was. Yes, he should have ran away from the situation as fast as he could and probably should have gone straight to his coach or the police but that's extremely tough for a young person to do.

Just because we are bringing him in for a look see doesn't mean he will be a Cowboy, folks. Long odds.. but hey, if you're talented, you will get a shot in the NFL.

Too bad we can't sticky a post. I have heard it a hundred times but it just doesn't seem to ever really sink in with a lot of people..

RKG can be anybody, from any background, from anywhere, but when the **** hits the fan he's right there with you in the foxhole..

Thanks. And dude, to me it's one of the most annoying things on this board when people constantly try and make that connection between RKG and boy scout/choir boy, etc. Every time I see that BS I'm like "that's not what it means!".

The fact is that it's meaningless. A statement used when it suits Garrett and the Cowboys and dismissed when it doesn't fit.

It's hypocritical nonsense used when it's convenient.

And the hypocrisy is pointed out time and time again.

If they want to lower their standards and sell their souls in a chase after troubled talent, at least be man enough to admit it and stop using any rhetoric mentioning the "right kind of guy" at all.

Cowboys signed Vanderbilt WR Chris Boyd.

Boyd (6-foot-4, 206) was kicked off Vandy's football team prior to the 2013 season after being arrested on an aggravated rape charge. He later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor. As a true freshman and sophomore, Boyd compiled 81 catches for 1,247 yards (15.4 YPR) and 13 scores. Although Boyd displayed NFL-caliber traits as an early-career collegiate, the off-field red flag combined with a 4.73 forty time at the Combine and 12 bench reps torpedoed his stock. He's a talented long shot.

Where are all the Garrett lovers with this signing. RKG....LOL.....Attaboy

Boyd and Street make the team. Or my name is not theSHOW

You've missed the point entirely. A player isn't disqualified from being an RKG just because they're troubled. A person can still be troubled AND have the other intangibles that JG is looking for (passionate about the game of football, desire to win, desire to compete, etc). Therefore, they're not "lowering their standards" at all by giving a player such as Boyd a look.

A lot of times boys that age do stuff without ever thinking 'one time' of consequences, getting caught, looking bad, or anyone ever finding out.

They just don't think it out that far or to that degree.

Thank you for the clarification.

So they turned to him, a leader, and he tried to protect them. That's a bad move, but it is also a common one for most young people. He paid the price for it, hopefully has learned from it, and knows the importance of making right decisions. I'm done worrying about him. I'll leave that to others who merely want something new to hate about this team to keep themselves happy.

Instead I'll worry about the girl who got raped by other people, and whether or not they will pay for it.
