Cowboys coach Jason Garrett has plenty to ponder with the NFL draft less than a month away. One big question is whether the Cowboys should draft quarterback Tony Romo's successor under center.

In a Thursday interview with ESPN's NFL Live, Garrett said that, among other positions, drafting a quarterback is "certainly on the table" for the Cowboys.

"I think it goes back to the evaluations of the players. Quarterbacks are certainly on the table for us, as are defensive linemen, linebackers, DBs and all the different positions on offense. You just want to bring a quality football player in who can help your team for a long, long time."

Garrett also broke down the team's quarterback situation as it stands.

"You always want a developmental quarterback on your roster. So right now Tony's our starter. And Kellen Moore is on our roster, who's a young player, and Jameill Showers, who's a free-agent quarterback for us. That's all we have right now, so certainly the draft will be a big part of it. The biggest thing is to get Tony healthy, keep developing Kellen, and just see where we are, if we like any of these guys in the draft."

Well jerry never actually said we weren't taking a QB. He was talking about the 4th pick. And Garrett didn't say they were taking a QB at 4 either. And he didn't say they were taking a QB, he said they were looking at it just like the majority of teams are
Personally id take Wentz at 4 in a heartbeat and I think they would too. But I don't and I imagine they don't think he will be there

Obviously Jason and the staff know a hell of a lot more about their QB situation that I do. But I'm stunned that they actually view Kellen Moore as a viable solution at QB. I watched the guy at Boise and his physical tools are below average. He simply lacks the arm to make some basic NFL throws. Is there anyone here who thinks that Moore has the arm to throw into the wind at divisional sites like NY, Philly, or Washington in Dec when Dallas will need to win critical games.

Garrett is the master of saying a lot but really saying nothing. I'd almost rather listen to Jerry.

No wonder Bill Parcells couldn't last in Dallas. He was only good for four seasons, like Jimmy Johnson. And had to put up with the fans for today's Cowboy fans, who always have the 'smart' money and complain about everything that doesn't allow them to gloat as super fans.

What if a tough defense is forged most of the rest of the way, and a top receiver is added to the offense? Some would prefer to shoot for five seasons from now with a new quarterback, because that is the only smart thing to do...

Garrett says a lot of definitely professional levels of talk, but some here would rather their fancies to continually be tickled...get a leadership role and use it for a whipping boy. Yea team!!

I didn't say it wasn't a good thing that he says nothing. He plays poker, trying not to ever show his hand, while Jerry plays Go Fish.

I prefer Jerry because he often says exactly what he believes, even if it's not the smart thing to say.

They both play different roles in the scheme of an organization...and dynamics as such, are dependent upon where they both sit. Jason has a team that fights, and I am keeping faith that in the world of the NFL...that can still lead to winners.

If we aren't going to take a qb in round one...

We might as well not even take a qb

Save me the garbage

I've been saying the whole time that if we pass on a QB in the first I hope we don't take a lesser QB in the 2nd or 3rd while bypassing much better talent there. So that'd leave the 4th or later for a developmental, backup type.

Garrett didn't say at pick 4, just said that QB was on the table................could very well be a second day pick they are planning on using for all we know.

I do agree with the sentiment on this board that if its not one of the big 3 (Goff, Wentz, Lynch), then don't bother because the Cooks and Prescotts of the draft are all backups at best.

And I am going to pretend I didn't hear Garrett talking up the Boise State kid...........I watched his games at the end of the season and he sucks. The main problem is he has a noodle arm and that aint going to change folks. QBs either have natural arm strength or they don't, it doesn't just develop from hitting the barbells for a couple of months. Doesn't work like that.

If Dallas sits still at 4 some team will trade up with SD and secure Goff. After that Lynch becomes a hot commodity in a draft with few blue chip players. Enough teams are desperate to get a QB they can at least believe in and sell to the fans. He's not going to be there in the 20ies. Much less at 34.
