I don't think his comments are trying to convince anyone of anything. Why do fans keep trying to dissect these interviews for understanding.

He is intentionally saying absolutely nothing!

He's telling them what JJ/SJ wants him to say; nada, etc. SJ is the only one that I believe lets one slip from time to time (team general outlook/direction) but could be intentional as well, etc.

A big part of counterintelligence is you have to mix some truth in there. Russian state TV is masterful at it. Don't mislead so much as confuse.

I just said that bc SJ "spilled " the beans in terms of feeling out the QB in the first discussion; opposed to the prior Romo 5 year plan and the adamant stances against QBs in the 1st prior, etc.

Just expounding on your good point, mang.

Jerry will do whatever Romo tells him to do. Its come down to that. Neither man has much time left.

Jerry will do everything in his power to get Romo his SB. That should tell you what we are going to do with #4.

No wonder Bill Parcells couldn't last in Dallas. He was only good for four seasons, like Jimmy Johnson. And had to put up with the fans for today's Cowboy fans, who always have the 'smart' money and complain about everything that doesn't allow them to gloat as super fans.

What if a tough defense is forged most of the rest of the way, and a top receiver is added to the offense? Some would prefer to shoot for five seasons from now with a new quarterback, because that is the only smart thing to do...

It works both ways. We all saw what having nothing behind Romo is like. With out him we got nothing. I doubt we have as many more years with Tony as Jerry and red do.

That's an uknown. The team is planning on at least an immediate run with Tony Romo. Unless new information is provided as to actual medical conditions, one can't project future injuries beyond conjecture based upon perceived tendencies, but not actual proof.

How long will Leary or Lee last? One has to go along until something career ending occurs. But that is still by chance, not lack of genes.

All true but the QB position is far more difficult to develop as you know. You have to take your chances when presented like they are now to draft in the 1st round. Romo's recent history isn't very good.

If Dallas sits still at 4 some team will trade up with SD and secure Goff. After that Lynch becomes a hot commodity in a draft with few blue chip players. Enough teams are desperate to get a QB they can at least believe in and sell to the fans. He's not going to be there in the 20ies. Much less at 34.
Dallas needs to be one of these teams.

Yet if Bill Belicheck said the exact some thing, most of the whiners would be saying "That guy is so smart. He gives you nothing. Brilliant!"

Oh, I agree. I mean, there are a few things I wish he'd own up to, but as far as giving any information away, I'm happy with Garrett's coachspeak.

However, for entertainment value and insights into the team, we get more from Jerry. Not saying that's a good thing, but if I'm going to listen to one of them speak, it's Jerry because of that.

Garrett has the right idea and sees the essential need for a QB to take over probably
sooner than later, However he is facing Jerruh who overrides and supersedes all
things because he knows it all! However I hope that does not become the mistake
and we draft a QB at #4 who will actually be a quality not quantity type player we
will have to disregard because it just didn't work out

Good to see that JG acknowledges this team's great need for a timely QB acquisition. Here's hoping they manage to follow up on that realization with a terrific decision.

This team needs to take a QB at 4. Not only for the post Romo era, but because they are gonna be in a good situation for their development. Neither Wentz or Goff are ready to start straight away. I think they both have slightly more flaws/unknowns than Mariota/Winston, but similar upside. Sitting for 2/3 years and learning (with a few games when Romo inevitably spends time on the shelf), then coming in behind the best offensive line in the league gives them the best chance of maximising their potential. A lot of talented QB's fail due to being thrown in the deep end too early and in the wrong situation/system rather than not having the talent.

I like that Goff seems to be getting rated the second best because I think he fits better, having a lot of similarities to Romo, plus he's 2 years younger than Wentz. He puts on 10-15 pounds by the time he's Wentz' age and one of the factors for Wentz being rated higher is gone. If Romo is around 3 more years, he's playing year 4 at 25.

This team needs defense, and we have a deep draft in defensive prospects and lots of picks to use to take some later in round 2 onwards. No point wasting a mid round pick on a QB with backup upside, and we probably aren't going to get a chance to pick high level QB at the top of the draft anytime soon.

There is no such thing as a developmental quarterback. Quarterbacks have it - or they don't. Even later round successes like Brady or Wilson were almost instantly capable.

Let me know when he wins a Super Bowl.

What does winning Super-Bowl have to do with him
once being a developmental QB?

Exactly, but I think they are convinced that they will find another Romo with a late round pick or an UDFA.

I have my doubts that they can tell the difference from all the prospects. It seems to me they know the value of the #4 overall, as far as the value chart is all about, but for some reason cant tell the Wentz/Goff crowd appart from the Cook/Prescott crowd. It really worries me that they either dont know what they're doing or will try to get cute and find 1st round "value" in the third round. I wouldnt put it past them that they will end up drafting Prescott in the third round and will go on to call him the best prospect they've seen since Troy Aikman.
