Agreed. And what a discredit to Garrett and his staff who essentially rely on a player to make sure the team does what it's supposed to in key game situations. Parcels was noted for focusing practice sessions on that very thing to ensure it was engrained into the every player's psyche. So when you make a "bang bang decision" per TWill's post game comments today, you are more apt to make the smart decision instead of the heinously stupid one. In fact, two players essentially made the same mistake on the final drive. Totally inexcusable and unacceptable. That was the point in the game the Cowboys really needed Romo's veteran savvy. I can guarantee he would have reminded everybody to get out of bounds. Like I said last year, Romo is a better playcaller than Garrett or Linehan.
No disrespect to Dak Prescott, who I think handled himself very well today.
The red headed idiot strikes again. Hopefully Jerry will sober up enough to finally realize his mistake that has wasted Romo's career.
Clap clap
Excellent post!!!!!Cowboys have played one game this season and already my head hurts. Put Dak aside for a moment. It looks like this staff has coached him up pretty well for him to play as he did yesterday. But what about the rest of the team? Where is the improvement? Where has it been for the last five years?
The fact is we have an incompetent for a head coach. When he was first hired I was excited and hopeful. Many of us were because Wade Phillips is Wade Phillips. He is best as a coordinator. I thought with JG there was a chance to have a head coach that could build a team, be it's identity and grow with it.
Instead, we have a guy who is a "coach in training" according to the clueless GM. What? The NFL is now a training seminar instead of a brutal sport? But even with that, it's one thing for Jerry to say that and it be wrong. The problem is he looks like he is being truthful because the star pupil is not advancing at all.
I keep hearing about how the Cowboys will play and learn from their mistakes yet it NEVER happens. How is this possible?
JG has failed this franchise, time and again in every way.
He has "learned" nothing as a head coach. Dallas is repeatedly out coached every week. That's hard to overcome in a league with so many close games decided in the 4th quarter.
I guess he can motivate players but so can high school and college football coaches. But this is the NFL. The rah rah BS only goes so far. You need to have a plan to win. This coach has none.
His game plans are questionable, his style of offense is pure vanilla, he cannot manage a game overall or the clock specifically, he continues to put the overall success of the team on the QB's (whether it be Romo or Dak) shoulders (which is not how you win in the league) and it's not getting better.
He said prior to yesterday that there were no limitations on Dak in the offense so where were the few deep shots that teams take in the course of a game? I understand you want to break a rookie in slowly so why say he has no limitations? The message never matches the actions.
What I saw out there is more of the same old, same old. I have no confidence that this team can be anything this year. And that's a shame because Dak looks like he can be a good player in this league.
The defense is a sieve that cannot be trusted to make a big stop, which has been the case throughout the JG tenure. And I know he doesn't hire the defensive coaches but ultimately the buck stops with the head guy. That's just how it is. Assistant coach performance reflects on the head coach. It just does.
I watched Dak's face on several occasions yesterday and it looked a lot like Tony's. And it said, "I need some help to win guys." JG and company are not giving him the help he needs.
Instead they use the same game plans repeatedly and hope their exceptional FG kicker can bail them out. Look, even if TWill gets out of bounds there you're going to rely on a 62 yard FG to win? That is insane, even as good as Bailey is.
This is nothing new. Four years ago JG lost games in Baltimore and Arizona by settling for long FGs that missed. Where are the attacking plays in the two minute offense? All these other teams have them. Why not Dallas?
Why are Cincinnati and Atlanta able to design formations to get AJ Green and Julio Jones the ball all over the field and our staff can't feed our comp- Dez, the ball the same way?
There's so much more I can point out but why bother? Nobody is listening. Management just believes the light is going to come on for JG yet it never does nor will.
I should be excited about this season with this young QB and fresh personality on the team. But I'm not because of games like yesterday and any other close loss you want to bring up in the last five years.
And for those who will ask me well...what about 2014 how do I account for the 12-4? The answer is I don't. It was apparently just blind luck by a RB on a contract year.
This is the same OL if not better with talent yet JG will not force the issue yesterday with the run and mixing and matching Zeke and Morris. Your offensive line is your strength and Dak throws 45 passes? And don't give me Linehan. He answers to JG so it's still on JG. He has the final call in the headset. Or maybe he doesn't because he's giving Linehan carte' blanche'.
Either way, JG is not anywhere close to being the leader this team needs on the sideline.
In more than any other sport, the head coach sets the tone for the entire organization and we see what that tone looks like in the present day. It's not pretty.
The man has to go. A .500 existence in the NFL gets you nowhere. Hopefully after another mediocre to bad season this year it finally registers with Jerry.
In closing let me say I have some hope that it might. I was chatting on Twitter with Jean Jacques Taylor shortly after Romo went down and I was criticizing JG but saying he won't get fired anyway if Dallas comes up short because he's Jerry's boy.
But his comment to me was don't underestimate the level of talent Jerry thinks there is on this offense. Jerry thinks the players and talent are there and feels this team can be a legit contender in the NFC. JJT commented that Jerry expects results from JG and Linehan regardless of what the defense looks like.
If they fail, let's hope JJT and his hunch are right. Six years is more than enough sample size for me.
So, Original Poster, You've nailed it on the head. This is one helluva con job.

Field position game play call. Not designed to get a first down. The best coach in the NFL wouldnt be calling a TE screen for RAC-deficient Witten. I promise.

Centuries from now historians from all walks of life will write about this man's wicked deceit. Walks like a coach, talks like coach but has no real coaching ability. This man has played us all. It's no wonder he's so close to Romo, he's nothing without him. 10+ yrs on a failed experiment. Wade Phillips was afforded half the time with half the arrests and stupidity. It's sickening what happened to this franchise.
I don't disagree with you but you have to factor in Romo. Campo managed 5 - 11 with crap talent and no QB. Garrett has had a much better talent and a franchise QB and is .500. I believe Campo could have coached the talent Garrett has had with Romo to better records than Garrett has. That is not to say Campo is a good coach but rather to drive home the point how bad Garrett has been. Just look at last year, without a QB, Garrett couldn't even match Campo's 5 wins and Garrett had Romo for a few games. He is worse than Campo because with campo the incompetence was evident in everything he did. Garrett is the perfect decoy for Coach Jones because he lulls you into a false sense of competence

it's a process....wish I could learn on the job at $3+ mil a yearBut he's only on step 24/100.
