The hardcore packers fans loved McCarthy they just knew he was going to have be removed in order to get the real culprit (Ted Thompson) out of town

He had some supporters, but not many. It's the same in every town when coaches ger fired. It's a re-tread league most of the time.

There's a 95% chance McCarthy will get run out of here, too, by fan malcontent. Around and around it goes

Garrett didnt adapt and make adjustments. When we did make adjustments it was always late and way too far to the opposite end. That had as much to do with losing to better defenses as our own inept defense.

Not disagreeing with that. The only time he was good at making halftime adjustments was when Tony Sparano was here. Otherwise, Garrett stuck to his theme that execution is everything instead of just part of what it takes to get over the top.

Hopefully, now that he's with the Giants, he'll stick with the mind-set that they will win if the team just executes the game plan instead of learning from his mistakes and actually trying to create advantages for his offense through scheming. If so, the Giants offense can only be as good as every individual player doing his job instead of the scheme covering for weaknesses and attacking the other team's weaknesses.

Few offensive coordinators succeed without at least a very good quarterback. Romo might have made Garrett look better than he was, but having Aikman, Smith and Irvin certainly didn't hurt Norv Turner either.

The difference, though, is that I believe Turner's offense brought out the best in our players while Garrett's limited those who played for him.

No it does not mean “nothing”. You don’t hire someone who doesn’t have credentials. The bigger and more selective the job, the greater the competition and the greater the requirements. That’s why Garrett was such a failure. His credentials were based on family connections, not a meritocracy. It’s just silly to compare McCarthy and Garrett as far as coaching work, experience, and success is concerned. History doesn’t say anything one way or another as far as the future is concerned. But it is a predictor for success because that’s the only way you know someone has been good at their job and can continue to be so.

First off I didn’t compare them. What I’m saying is you don’t judge what a coach did at a previous stop. There have been so many coaches fail at one stop just to go on to have better success at other stops. Ask Bellicheat.

Turners offense really wasn’t that creative. People talk about how predictable our current team is running Elliott on first down, well you could almost bet your bank account Turner would do the same with Emmitt. 3rd and 6-7 yards to go was going to be a short slant to Irvin an unusually high % of the time. That offense was just so disciplined and so talented and so efficient teams still couldn’t stop them. For Turner with that team the unexpected was maybe a lead draw on 3rd and 6-7 instead of the expected slant or short pass to Novacek.

As a head coach yeah. For sure. As a OC for a new head coach? I think it’s a very solid move. I think that old outdated playbook may actually work for a offense with their skill set....not sure how far it will take them but Garrett just like McCarthy is going to have to learn how to adapt. Mike took some years off to do it. Garrett didn’t take any unless he’s been doing it on the low for years and it wouldn’t shock me if he had knowing he was a dead man walking.

I could also see this as a move for the Giants to have a backup plan. If this guy Joe Judge (still baffled at that hire) doesn't pan out, they have Garrett waiting in the wings who has experience. I'm sure this was discussed somewhere else in this thread but I didn't feel like going through all 21 pages.

That's the reasoning why he wasn't respected for his inadequate efforts in that endeavor.
