I am betting on him to be a top 5 Head Coach in the NFL very soon.

Still too early for me to go all in on that bet, but I would be more willing to bet for it than I would to bet against it right now...and that's saying a lot for someone who still hasn't even coached his first game yet.

I think my favorite part of this press conference was when he said , "We talked very strongly about how we evaluate players...doesn't matter where players come from, whether they're pro-bowl players, drafted players, or un-drafted free-agents...we're gonna play the best guys."

Oh how I hope this is true!

If what we are seeing in the early days with Garrett is truly representative of how he will manage throughout the organization then I am on board with both feet. And it has nothing to do with it being Garrett himself. I just believe very strongly in the style that he is apparently demonstrating. And while using a podium instead of the table means absolutely nothing by itself, it could mean a ton if it represents how thoughtful, strategic, and intentional he plans to be with this job.

That said, do I have some concern about the brevity of his resume? Yes. Experience is a VERY valuable thing. But it also comes in many different appearances so while his resume may be lacking in some traditional senses I am not convinced that the necessary experience isn't still there. Also not convinced yet that it is.

Regardless of what Garrett may have yet to learn (to be determined), if these early snippets are indicative of his foundation, fabric, and vision then I am all in because it WILL yield excellent results in time. If that means this organization (coaches, players, etc) has to be purged and got backwards before going forward, I am all in because the destination IMO is assured if we take this route no matter how long the journey.

And while I am getting way ahead of myself in speculation :) let me foolishly state that Stephen Jones countenance to me indicates that he will mesh VERY nicely with the style Garrett is preliminarily portraying and that SJ can play a very helpful role in supporting & furthering this approach with his dad.

This approach may take time because Rome isn't built in a day and ultimately the players and other coaches will have to decide if they will buy in or become part of those that Garrett escorts off the bus. So I will not say that Garrett's future should be decided by the 2010 W/L record. Rather what kind of resolve he demonstrates to laying the right foundation in the next 8 weeks. If he does that, I will want him back for 2011 and beyond.

I want this kind of leader as our HC. I want the right skills sets around him to shore up his weaknesses. And I want him to build HIS team, not simply make the best of what he inherits. I don't yet know if Garrett is that kind of leader. He's sure showing some interesting signs though.

I have to admit, I`m starting to like this guy, of course this means nothing if they don`t respond to him on the field.

If they don't you cut/trade/deactivate them.Problem solved

Is that supposed to say "RESET" in your sig instead of REST? If not, I don't get it.

Are you certain of this? He did have one hell of a debut in 2007. Our offense was one of the top units in the NFL. Much better than our defense.

And he did get a couple of HC offers after that.

From my point of view, I always saw our offensive failings over his tenure more of a lack of OL health or talent than poor coaching.

And of course you do realize he is only or interim HC.

Our offense to my recollection was most prolific under his direction when he ran it with Sparano. We've until recently always gained yards, but the name of the game is scoring and while I'm not a stat maven, I know that we have progressively gotten worse in this area, not better.

Health issues impacted the offense at times, but it was never a case where we were racking up points and then due to an injury fell off. We just, couldn't score and it got worse when there was injury.

Again, I think the hire made sense based on everything else, I just don't believe his job performance warranted it, or, as I said, that his experience warranted the OC position.

But I'm really not upset about it. I reiterate I want him, for the sake of my team, to do well. I am interested to see what kind of difference he can make, if at all.

EDIT*** Let me add that he is saying all the right things. I just hope it is the truth. We'll see.

I think this is a very good post. Honest.

Ultimately, I think once we started snowballing, then EVERYTHING went wrong.

Lets see.

Jerry should have just followed his initial thoughts and named Garrett the HC before he hired Wade. Who knows how that would have worked, but here we are years later finding out.

I really like it when he said they best players will play, no matter how they got here.

That alone should wake up players that quit last week.

We could take these Gnats, if the player play 100%.

Me too, hope thats the case.

What conclusion do we draw if Choice continues to sit and Barber starts?

We had them in the coffin, hammer and nails were in hand.... then we left the lid open and helped them out and fell into coffin ourselves.

I hope we do some damage.

I WANT TO WRITE ON THEIR WALL!!!

I dont expect a win this week......I really like to see a great effort....but with Kitna at QB......Im not sure even with our best effort...we can win this game.

I thought Kitna had something left.....but IMHO now....its Brad Johnson 2

I like him....if he can manage to win five of the last eight games with a backup QB and that horrible oline I say give him a chance next year. Just please get rid of Houck, Herring and Campo.

I'm not expecting a win for the rest of the season... not w/ the current starting line ups anyway. Not when guys can continue to screw up, hurt this team and not be held accountable or have their playing time cut.

Teams take the character of the Head Coach..That's a fact
Now still to be seen if his performance was just an act or for real
It will show on the field...not from one game mind you but I'd say in the
first 4 games

My biggest fear is we win only one or two games and the fans won't accept Jerry keeping him around for another year and then hires a re-tread like John Fox. I worry that Jason will then go on to have great success on another team ala Sean Payton. If he shows us anything these last 8 games I say give him next year as well.

If he wins 2 games, he deserves an extension. We're 1-7, lots of players injured including our starting QB, and a brand new coach. If you can win 2 more games this year, that's a great coaching job and deserves to be rewarded.
