He’s intelligent, organized, consistent, and able to dampen the circus atmosphere Jerry insists on cultivating. He develops players well. He keeps the team focused, and they play hard.

Most of what he does poorly is massively exaggerated by upset fans. They hated his play calling, though his offenses were generally in the top ten in the league in terms of production/series. They are his press conferences, though fail to understand he does it for a very good reason. They hate his clapping...never understood why that was such an issue. Really, what they’re unhappy about is the team not going on a playoff run, and when they don’t like that result, the easiest person to blame is the coach. Personally, I don’t think he’s miss d the playoffs with a playoff caliber team until last season.

Probably wouldn't have missed last year if Zeke wasn't suspended. Some like to say Morris' average per carry was consistent with Zeke's but that misses the point. Zeke is a home run hitter while Morris is a grinder. Defenses aren't worried about Morris popping one for a 60 yard TD on them, and defend differently as a result. His absence certainly did the passing game no favors.

Still, all that and the Joneses aside, Garrett needs to produce better results going forward or the Cowboys need to explore other options. Treading water isn't good enough for this franchise.

hes has big deep calluses from all the clapping and butt slapping, so thats good..i only think hes still around because of his knowledge of the current schemes and the comfort that appears to see stability to the current crop of players etc i think he and this staff do prepare well for most games but when things fall apart they don't do well with in game adjustments..

however its hard to say he flat out sux , he doesn't think about all the crying on how vanilla and easy to figure out the offense and defense, how is it they can win any games if they cant coach and they have a high school scheme?? they have won games 124 13-3 9-7 three out of the 4 season even after about a 50% turnover in players and now staff.. they still remain competitive and than you can argue what its the players? not if you read how they are all injury prone over paid and now SK..right Lee witten dez dak and other all need to go according to this forum..so how can you win with bad players and A Bad scheme..seriously? how can we win with such a bad GM and coaching staff that cant bring in FAs?

it simply all not true even though it has some roots in the truth..its overblown.. hes an average coach and becomes above average when his players execute the scheme..but when players cant get it done it all becomes and issue and exposes the very Average nature of this staff..SM is overblowing all this suff , they have won quite a bit of games the last 4-5 years and that cant happen if you believe what you read in this forum..:):omg::grin::popcorn:

He’s too nice. He has the demeanor of an OC who stays up in the booth. Intensity doesn’t rub off on the players. He lays down when the he game is close because he thinks his team can run out a slight lead. He doesn’t go for the throat and seems to instinctively retort when players show that mentality.

Garrett doesn't give us much to judge him by other than bland press conferences that are done out of obligation, a few camera shots of him on game day, a few video clips of him from the Cowboys, and his results.

I'm interested in the All or Nothing to get more insight on how him and his staff operate behind closed doors. I know it won't tell the whole story, but it will be much more than what we've been privy to so far.

that i can agree on, ive seen that way way too much..they get lead and he goes into save mode..its frustrating id like to see some step on peoples throat no matter the score and never let them feel comfortable..we need to be more intimidating and aggressive..

even though that can backfire some as i beive it was 2013 or 14 or cant remember but the Lions game i was at at ATT Stadium in arlington as we went up by like 3 plus scores and they kept throwing with romo in the 3rd qtr and romo had two pases deflected off players hands, one was witten, for INTS and another that was a bad throw and it gave the lions a historical comeback thats we still had chance to try and save the game and our Kicker misses kick..than they drive down and make the game winning FG..this was kick in the rocks at home game i attended and go from watching one of the best offensive runs we were ever on while i was at a live game to have a 24 point lead in the 3rd and lose!! so sometimes being aggressive can backfire..i believe if we ran the ball 17 staright times and punted the rest of the way , we would have won this game..

he's got an uncanny ability to be self-unaware, and apparently thick skin.

Sorry, I got caught up in the responses and neglected the thread title. Strengths: he seems to be a likable guy who doesn’t get down, like Jim Zorn or Dave Campo. He seems like a respectable person who I wouldn’t mind being the dad of the guy who dates my daughter, like Brad Childress or Mike Tice. He has a strong commitment to support his ownership, like Todd Bowles or Marvin Lewis.

Add all those guys together and you’ve got one hell of a Jason ‘Applause’ Garrett.

The man has knocked down some serious coin with, supposedly, a limited skill set. By my count, he's already made more than 50M and has the 2nd longest tenure of any DC HC. The man was in demand and it is only conjecture that he would not land another HC gig immediately because he's not the worst HC in the NFL.

Look, I am not a Garrett fan but I cannot lay it all on him for the team's lack of success. And I have only a suspicion about what his job entails and just how he fits into the family run business but one clue was several drafts ago and the expression on his face when there was discord in the war room. I could read the disgust and frustration.

In order to see what the real problem with the Cowboys inability to get over the hump, I would start with method of elimination and the first ejection would be the entire Jones family. I would like to see what Garrett could do out from under that umbrella with a more normal set up, you know, owner stays out and lets GM run the team and GM lets the HC hire all his coaches and usually stays the hell out of the team meetings and puts it all on the HC and holds him accountable. That kind of stuff, remember that?

HC's and QB's get all the blame and credit and both are wrong as there are many contributing factors to failure and success. Garrett has some irritating sideline behavior that piss me off as well but our concentration on the clapping, chewing and spitting is only because we are disappointed in the results.

But ya know the best thing I can say about Jason Garrett? With the guys in charge of this team, we could do worse...a lot worse.

Gets his players to buy in. We may get outcoached, but I have rarely seen this team just give up post Wade Phillips era.

Other than that, not sure how much credit the draft goes when it comes to the Jones gang, McClay and Garrett

The most underrated thing he does is handle Jerry and his ego. Parcells and Johnson, as great of coaches as they were, could never do it.

Umm what? Jerry is on the radio twice a week giving out injury reports, scheme ideas, who is going to play.

The guy was involved in all kinds of issues last year that were distractions to the team.

In parcells first two years Jerry didn’t say anything. He only repeat d what parcells would say in press
Conferences. In 05 Jerry started talking out of school. The foundation was built though for how to win in those years.

The biggest lie of them all about Garrett is he controls or limits the Jones family. I would say it’s the opposite. They are on the radio and tv more than ever. They signed the leagues biggest villain and then called him a leader in hardy on Garrett’s watch. Not to mention all the other nonsense with Gregory, McClain etc.

I honestly have no idea what Garrett does other than act as the guy in charge of the coaches. He runs the coaches meetings and team meetings I imagine.

No idea what he does on gameday at this point. I never had a problem with him calling plays to be honest and I would prefer his offense to the supposed RPO college nonsense offense they are going to run this year.

Motivation also. He motivates the team well and clearly has the players respect. Newman and witten have both said he is the best they have played for at this. I don’t understand how they could say that but they did.
