For all of you who would want to trade for Taylor, keep in mind that if this were to happen, he would not be replacing Ellis. He would be replacing Ware. Taylor is not stout enought to play SOLB in a 34. He would have to play Will. His contract is also bigger then that of Ellis. So, understanding that if he were traded to us, he would be playing in Ware's spot, that it would represent a larger cap hit and it would cost us a #1, do you really want to trade for Taylor?

Why not see if Parcells will trade him for Ellis? One disguntled thirty-something for another.

Bad as it sounds, might make some sense, though I don't think Ellis would want to play for Parcells again.

I just don't want to see us end up with both.

Ellis later admitted that BP did him a favour moving him to 3-4 OLB as it spares a lot of beating his body took at DE. He believes it may add to his longevity.

I could see Jax becoming players in this.

Jason Taylor may be old, but he's also averaging about 12 sacks a year with absolutely zero help around him. He'll be real attractive to a playoff contender that believes they're one catalytic player away from the Superbowl.

I'm surprised you would even have to use the term "Guess". To make it perfectly clear, no, this would be an unwise move, IMO, to put it very, very kindly.

Why would you spend a #1 pick on a player who will be playing in his 12th season, has a contract worth 7 Million a year and can not start for you?

No, I would not make that trade.

Exactly.

I have to ask... are there any real contenders for that deal?
Is any team going to give a #1 regardless if it a high or low pic for Jason Taylor.

Bill is out of his mind.
He should be happy for a extra pick in the middle rounds and thats generous yet more reasonable.

I didn't propose to trade the first pick, I proposed to offer Ellis. The only team that would offer their first (and third) for Taylor is the Commanders.

OK, lets say we offer Ellis. Taylor still can't play the SOLB position so now, you take a cap hit on Ellis for trading him, you weaken the SOLB position by trading Ellis, a starter, for Taylor, who will only be a back up or situational player for us and you trade a 4M salary with Ellis to get a 7M salary with Taylor. Trading 12.5 sacks last year for 11 sacks last year? I don't see the production justifying the bigger contract.

Lastly, why would Miami trade Taylor for Ellis? That would mean that they would then have to fill the WOLB position. Very hard to get good pass rushers. Miami would be stupid to consider that trade and Parcells is not a stupid man, IMO.

What are the chances of a draft day trade for taylor? ESPN says Dolphins want a 1st but expect him to be traded for a late 2 early 3. Would you give a late 2nd for Jason?

:laugh1:

They were probably going to trade two number one picks to Cincy for Chad Johnson just so they could trade Johnson and Vinny Cerrato to Miami for Jason Taylor.

Any front office that would trade their 1st round pick for Jason Taylor is chock full of stupid. I don't think I could sum it up any better than that.

Unlike Parcells, Wade taylors (pun intended) his defense around his players, not vice-versa. His Defense would not look the same if Taylor were obtained. The Giants seemed to do okay with their surplus of Defensive ends, so outside the box thinking can be a good thing.

As to your sack stat, Jason Taylor got 11 sacks by being his teams greatest defensive player and their only pressure player, getting gameplanned around and double teamed each week. In Dallas, Ellis gets padded stats due to Ware being the one teams gameplan around. Comparing their "sack stats" alone would be a good gauge if they were both second fiddle, but not in this case.

I would reason that Miami is already stupid to think non-Commanders teams would bite at Taylor for a number one pick and the Commanders won't bite because they are still trying to get that receiver for their two number ones. Parcells is also the same guy that thought Carp would make a good 3-4 LB and that they should pick Spears over Ware, so he can have some brain farts here and there.

One final thing: Parcells was instrumental in pushing Emmitt out the door in favor of that all time great Troy Hambrick. They are going to get rid of Taylor if they can and I would suspect that he will still be around later this summer for a much cheaper price tag.
