Kiper could get paid by any of the 32 teams right now and do a bang-up job. I hate the guy but to discount his vast wealth of draft knowledge is ********.

I disagree. He's never been close in his analysis.

Not by teams, but by the networks. Sure he can identify readily the players with potential, but I would most certainly defer to our scouts.

and actually worked in the league. Mel Munster Jr. is a tool. Mayock liked Brewster. Don't know what he thought about Williams.....

from the anonymos scouts article posted by Chocolate Lab

9. JASON WILLIAMS Western Illinois 6-1 238 4.49 3-4

Small-school player didn't get combine invitation but was a big hit on pro day. "He's the hot guy in this draft," Angelo said. "He'll go third round because he ran in the 4.4s. Good player. He's tight. Plays on a straight line. He's a 'will' in both schemes." Three-year starter from Chicago DuSable High School with 289 tackles (42½ for loss), 15 sacks and 17 turnover plays, including 14 forced fumbles. "There's some intriguing things about him," said DeCosta. "I don't think he's really ready to play, but I like his size and speed. He's a raw guy that hasn't made a lot of plays." Vertical jump of 39 and Wonderlic of 21.

Dont like the "he hasnt made alot of plays" part. Its all about production.:D

Goose had him ranked #84 on his big board. So we probably reached a little. Although I think he can make an impact right away on special teams, so I don't think he would've fallen any lower than the 4th round.

Pompei on Williams

13. Jason Williams, Western Illinois.

He played well in the East-West Shrine Game, then had a nice workout at Northwestern and has risen up the boards. Williams did not perform as well as he tested, however. He is a converted safety who can run. He is an athletic player who would be best used on the strong side. He does not change directions particularly well and may be strictly a two-down player. In a 3-4, he could be an inside linebacke

Dont like the change of directions part. Sounds like a straight line player.

I sure hope the guy does something, at least pushes for playing time or something because other than him we've done exactly nothing in regards to people who might actually make the guys ahead of them sweat.

Good-bye, Barbie.

Hello, football player.

This guy can rush the passer, too.

Great pick.

He's the best guy for the job, and he fit the profile to a T.

Chris Mortensen likes him. He defended the pick. Williams was rated in the third round by scouts and on Gosselin's board.

Williams may be a straight-line player, but he was doing a great job of running with TEs in the flat at the Shrine practices

the NFLDraftScout writeup of Jason Williams is totally different from the anonymous scout's

loose hips, change of direction are words used to describe him on NFLDS

After doing some research, I'm really starting to love this pick.

Underrated OLB Jason Williams wows at Pro Day

On a day when Baylor offensive tackle Jason Smith, a potential top 2 pick in the upcoming draft, worked out for scouts at the Baylor Pro Day, the buzz in scouting circles was not the athletic Smith nor any of the other Bears. The buzz was about Western Illinois outside linebacker Jason Williams, whose all-around workout was better than any outside linebacker tested at the NFL Combine -- including Wake Forest's Aaron Curry.
My fellow senior analyst Chad Reuter touted Western Illinois outside linebacker Jason Williams two months ago as among the best players at the East-West Shrine Game. Williams' play that week and the big play potential he showed as a senior (17 tackles for loss and 6 forced fumbles), however, weren't enough to land him an invitation to the NFL Combine.
Williams, who measured at the East-West Shrine Game at 6-1, 241 pounds, clocked in at 4.49 seconds in the 40-yard dash, posted a 39" vertical jump and lifted the bar 26 times. The forty time was recorded on a gymnasium floor, rather than a track, so scouts will likely add a tenth of a second to Williams' time, but the results were nonetheless impressive.
Williams could be the first player selected in the 2009 draft that was not invited to the Combine.
Williams wasn't the only legitimate NFL prospect working out. Leatherneck running back Herb Donaldson, who rushed for 1,784 yards and 21 touchdowns as a senior, ran a 4.56 in the 40-yard dash, and posted a 32" vertical, 10'2" broad jump and an eye-popping 28 reps. The 28 reps were more than lifted by any running back at the Combine.
There were 14 NFL teams that attended the workout: the Buccaneers, Browns, Chiefs, Colts, Dolphins, Eagles, Falcons, 49ers, Packers, Panthers, Patriots, Rams, Titans and Vikings.

04/23/2009 - "I've had 12 NFL visits so far and after the Northwestern pro day, things really started to pick up. It was constant travels and this week has been kind of crazy because there is a lot of tests I have to make up because I wasn't in school obviously." Although his draft stock has risen, it has not always been a smooth ride. Williams was not allowed into the combine and made a vow both mentally and physically to show NFL personnel why he should have been invited. "My personal slogan for all my pro days - I had a black t-shirt with white letters that read 'numbers don't lie,'" Williams said. "That's pretty much the whole mindset I had when I found out that I wasn't going to the combine. Everybody measures you by your numbers so I said 'Okay, when you see my numbers you are going to realize why you should have invited me'. I have a lot of attributes that I feel a lot of other linebackers don't have." With all the evaluations out of the way, the actual draft is fast approaching and Williams is ready for the day to come. "I would say I am more anxious than I am nervous," Williams said. "I want to figure out where I'm going to end up at so I can know where the next chapter in my life is going to take me." - Ken Woods, Western Courier 04/05/2009 - Pro Day wrap, Player Helped their stock: Jason Williams, OLB, Western Illinois: Not invited to the combine, Williams impressed first at his own Pro Day, running in the low 4.5s and then was even faster when invited to the Northwestern Pro Day, clocking in at 4.44 and 4.49 seconds in the 40-yard dash at 238 pounds. Williams could be the first non-combine-invite drafted. - Rob Rang, The SportsXchange, NFLDraftScout.com

Leave it to Jerry to trade out of day one and then reach on the 1st two players we took in the 3rd round. Moron.

Jason was slated to go in the 3rd, if not the 2nd

Goose had Brewster rated 81 on his board, we took him at 75, not that big of a reach, and reportedly New England was in love with him

And I've seen several have them both as 5th rounders or lower.

according to Goose's top 100, New England reached on their 1st 2 picks, by double-digits each...

just something to think about
