Jason Witten on Terrance Williams

That's right. And people forget that due to all the inuries to Dez and Miles, Robinson rarely if ever was the WR3. He received WR2 targets and got the weaker coverage ....that is why is numbers were so good.
Also recall that Dez then was nothing like Dez now. Romo trusted Robinson much more.

Still, he was non-existent before Romo and then again after Romo. Connect the glowing dots on that one.

Loved having him on the team though.
Robinson had 411 snaps on pass plays in 2011, and Ogletree, who was terrible, had 360 the next year.

If Williams really is already better now than Robinson was in 2011, he'll have plenty of chances to put up better numbers.

It's as I said before, while the 12 formation is going to be a staple of our offense, expect that Williams is going to have a more pivotal role in our offense than Escobar or Hanna.

While he might not get as many snaps as Robinson, he should certainly get his opportunities. I'd even suggest that Witten may see his fewest snaps ever this year as I think we'll see some 4 receiver sets.

I'd love for Williams to be better than Laurent. If that is the case, we'd have tons of playmakers to throw to with Dez, Witten, Austin and Williams.

You'd be crazy to think Harris, Beasley, and even Armstrong won't be getting a lot of PT this year too if they make the team.

Harris was looking pretty good for us down the stretch last season.

I agree. To me it is not how many snaps a guy gets it is what he does when he is in the game. I'm glad to see the Cowboys WR core getting stronger that means we can keep guys fresh through out the game and the season and still have guys capable of making the plays. The individals stats really mean little to me it is all about winning football games.

IF Williams or one of those guys is better than Robinson was for us, it would be crazy to take opportunities away from him. One of every seven targets to Robinson was a TD. We gained an average of 10.7 yards every time we threw to him, whether he caught it or not.

Over the last five years, Robinson had one of the 10 best seasons in both categories. He is one of only two WR who can say that.

Let's clear something up guys; he did NOT say THIS year Williams would be better than any WR3 we've had.
He said that he thought he would eventually be the best.
Very big difference and much more realistic.

Yeah, it may not and probably won't happen right away. But I'd hope Williams would be as good or better than Robinson. Why wouldn't he be? Robinson was a third-round project from a 1-AA school who bounced around four NFL teams in five years. No reason a much better producer from a much better program and conference wouldn't be a better NFL player.

The "eventually" makes it not even newsworthy, since Williams should eventually be a starter anyway.

By saying that a guy who is expected to later become a starter will "eventually become the teams best 3rd WR," it actually sounds like Witten's just saying the top 2 aren't going anywhere soon. :D

Measuring against

2007- Sam Hurd
2008 - Patrick Crayton
2009 - Patrick Crayton
2010 - Roy Williams
2011 - Laurent Robinson
2012 - Kevin Ogletree

It isn't saying too much, but I think looking at this list, you can see just how much Romo makes players better than they really are. If Williams can be ancillary in his role in our offense I think we'll see the offense open up a great deal.

We're talking a lot about the 12 formation (and I do think it is important), but what is most vital is our ability to spread wide and be imposing from a 3 receiver set. With Austin in the middle and Bryant and Williams on the outsides... I think people will absolutely rue playing us. When you go deeper into what the offense can do with the 12, 13, and with a player like Beasley, I think we'll give teams a lot of looks that they won't necessarily appreciate. It's a lot to prepare for, and isn't as conducive to the book on Romo where you just play 2 man under and blitz the hell out of us. Especially if we can run more efficiently this year, which is also part of the reasoning behind the 12 and the 13.

Butch Johnson on teams with Drew Pearson and Tony Hill..better than all the above.

I loved Johnson and the "California Quake" stuff but he was also a guy they traded away and he pretty much disappeared with Denver.

I have ridiculously high hopes for Twill.I think he will put 1000 yards next season.

I keep hearing that Jason Witten said that Williams is the best 3rd receiver we've had since he has been with Dallas.

Does anyone actually have a source for this? Not that it would be all that difficult to achieve.

Not saying that much since our #3 WRs have been mostly flash-in-the-pans.

I wouldn't doubt it, although Roy Williams was a better third receiver during his brief stint as one than most in the league.

Laurent Robinson performed at a high level but that was mostly due to Witten, Bryant & Austin all drawing high coverage.

Everybody already knows that the best 3rd receiver we've ever had was Roy Williams.
