How soon people forget Ratliff was one of the first people to speak out against the team releasing T.O. stating he was made a scapegoat.

For the record, the player that Hatcher was referencing was Bass not Crawford.

Hatcher made comments about both players. He first said that Crawford was going to be in the Hall-of-Fame. He later said that Bass would take his job next year.

sounds good in theory but the cap says it ain't happening. keyboard warriors need to look at the big picture

with what money. you cut him and you lose money on the cap

It gets to a point where you can't deal with this guy taking forever to come back from injuries, and this is now the second spat he had with the organization in the media.. As long as he is on the roster they are going to count on him to produce and he won't because the guy hasn't been on the field in 2 years. They need to cut ties and start fresh at DT. Hatcher looks like he can be an anchor so they need to bring him back and like I said in my first post they should sign a veteran and use a 1st or 2nd round pick an another DT, then you hope 2 of the 3 other guys can be productive going forward as rotational players. (Bass,Cohen,Hayden or Lissemore). You can't worry about a cap hit because the Dline is something that doesn't look to bright in the future, Ware is aging, Spencer is a free agent. So you can't afford to let Ratliff's contract affect the way your going to build this D-line. It needs to get fixed in the coming years. There are always ways to create the money needed in a cap situation, I would also expect to see a guy like Miles Austin not be on this roster after this year or next year once Terrance Williams proves to be a reliable outside receiver. Unless he is willing to take a cut in his pay. Dez Bryant and Bruce Carter are both coming up on new contracts in the next couple years as well so I get it, it's not ideal money wise but unless you going to count on Ratliff being your 3 rd or 4th DT on the depth chart he has to go for the sake of building the best possible Dline

My prediction is this ... we are looking at a temporary issue that looks ugly right now and is sure to look uglier once the media dissects the situation to hell and back. However I believe we are going to have a good defense the 1st half of the season. I further believe that Ratliff will come back and when he does the defense will transform into great one for the home stretch making everyone forget this mess ever occurred. Just my hunch.

That would be nice if Ratliff came back and played great but the reality is that probably isn't going to happen. He played very good in 2009 but wasn't the same player in 10' or 11' and he was hurt most of 12' so he is coming off 3 sub par years in a row. I know as cowboy fans we wanted to believe switching back to the 4-3 would revive him and he would have success playing the 3 technique but in all reality Hatcher is better suited to play that spot than he is playing the 1 technique because he lacks the strength a little bit to clog the middle, plus I believe Hatcher will be more productive than Ratliff would have as a pass rusher anyway.... Getting anything out of Ratliff this year is going to be wishful thinking. Even if he comes back healthy

Is it 2014 yet so Dallas can release this clown and put someone of worth? Or, who atleast actually fights to improve themselves and help the team, in place of him? So sick of this guy.

So, did I hear Mickey or Broaddus (can't recall) yesterday say Jay was running sprints full speed in practice and then the setback happened? I was only half-listening, but I'm pretty sure that was the gist of what I caught. I don't particularly like the tone of Jay's comments, and I wish the video were available so I could hear it in context, but it's possible he's just really frustrated as a competitor and popping off a bit. Not a good thing, but sort of understandable given all the problems he's had with his health.

I don't believe for a second the guy doesn't want to be out there playing. I just think his body is hitting the wall and it was a big mistake to have given him the extension when we did.

Calvin Watkins ‏@calvinwatkins 6m
Jay Ratliff just spoke and hinted he's got issues with the strength and conditioning staff. "Everybody involved knows the answer."
Ratliff said its not his hamstring and there's a reason why he didn't come to offseason rehab.

Rowan Kavner ‏@KavnerDC 5m
Jay Ratliff spoke very briefly. Said its not his hamstring and everyone knew what the issue was way beforehand

Tim MacMahon ‏@espn_macmahon 5m
Why didn't Jay Ratliff rehab at Valley Ranch this offseason? "Good question. ... Everyone involved knows what's going on."
Jay Ratliff said everyone knew his injury issue "way beforehand," since last year. "It for sure is not a hamstring tweak."

Tom Orsborn ‏@tom_orsborn 4m
Ratliff says it was more than hamstring that kept him out, makes cryptic comment when asked why he didn't workout w/tm.after hernia surgery.
Ratliff on PUP and groin factor in decision: "Everyone knew what was going on beforehand."

Man, go 'head and cut his *** already. Tired of this guy!

Don't know about video, but they played the audio on the radio this morning and he's not being the mouthy malcontent some people are making him to be. He sort of reluctantly talked about it and when MacMahon pressed him on it, he said I've probably said too much already, let's just focus on the team and the guys who are playing because I don't want to be a distraction.

As David Moore was saying this morning on a different show I heard, Jay has trust issues with people in general, and apparently something happened to break his trust with the trainers or conditioning staff. But he's not out there trying to air all his dirty laundry and make this a huge issue. He's one of those who doesn't like talking to the media, and this kind of thing is exactly why.

He had the setback during conditioning tests, which kind of have to be ran full speed if you don't want to flunk em and have to do it all over.

I agree with you. I think he wants to play and I also think the extension was folly.

Rat has issues with the whole world. Ironically, its that attitude that made him a 4-time Pro Bowler.

Yeah. You nailed it right out of the gate yesterday. I meant to 'like' that post, but then I lost track of the post and didn't get around to it. :)

Jay Ratliff is simply a microcosm of what's wrong with the Cowboys' front office: signing players who are either in decline or undeserving of contract extensions.

Good organizations know when to cut bait before it's too late...

It's in vogue right now for fans to want to throw dirt on Rat and say it's all over. I'm not ready to do that yet. I believe in the heart of a guy that has propelled himself from that of a 7th round afterthought into a 4 time pro bowler as a woefully undersized NT.

Now will he ever be the old Rat? I wouldn't rule it out completely but I admit that seems like a real longshot at this point. The truth is he doesn't need to be in order to have a significant impact on this football team. If he returns as 75% of what he used to be then he'll be 3 times the player Nick Hayden is or ever will be. I think theres a real likelihood of that occurring.

It's silly talk for those that want to cut ties with him now. There is absolutely nothing to be gained by doing that. I won't even take into account the cap hit, which is enough reason not to do it. He's on the PUP so he's not eating a roster spot. You take another look at him in 6 weeks, which is probably going to be overkill. If he's healthy then you've earned yourself an enormous upgrade at a critical position. If not, you IR him, he still doesn't eat a roster spot and you address this again at the end of the season.

Am I missing something here?

I totally disagree, I don't care if he made 4 pro bowls he made a pro bowl a year he had 2 sacks on reputation and that was over 3 years ago.... I think he's done here, he made a lot of money, he has basically taken 2 years off from injuries some guys play through and now he's popping off in the media.... Thanks Rat you had a few years but its time to move on

This whole scenario strikes me as stinking to high-heaven.
There must be so much going on here that is being swept under the rug. A lot of it won't come out for years or never at all, but there is something more going on here with the whole Ratliff scenario.
There is the whole number of injuries, particularly hamstring issues, this team has been suffering last few seasons.
There is the whole longer than expected recovery times for a number of injuries - either misdiagnosed, misreported, or frequent setbacks occurring.
I'd go back as far as Jenkins not wanting to rehab with the team and wonder about that now as well.
Then we get to Ratliff himself.
What really spurred on a physical and strongly vocal confrontation in the locker room between him and Jones.
The guy has a DUI shortly after a teammate is killed by another teammate in an alcohol related motor vehicle accident.
Rat has been "passive aggressive" and then not even "passive". He talks about not being a distraction, and then insinuates all sorts of inflammatory things in this latest interview. He hints at problems with rehab staff, and that his injury was not honestly presented by the team, etc.
Then we have Jerry, who has never really struck me as the "soft type" but that has paid Rat a ton of money on what in retrospect is turning out to be a very poor value early contract extension - so he is trying to spin doctor the whole thing. But why Jerry is putting up with so much of this, is either desperation to have this guy play at a decent level, OR, Rat somehow seems to have an honest beef with how his injuries are being treated or his expectations for recovery have somehow been unfair or unrealistic.......
Something is incredibly weird about the whole thing though.
Hard for me to believe that this player really wants to play for this organization any more, despite all his team-mate solidarity type talk. And Jerry can't honestly believe he is close to coming back and playing at an "all pro" level any time soon or any time in the future at all.
Last I remember Rat was off to the side doing rehab training at camp, then disappeared. Do we honestly believe he tore his groin and/or hamstring in the fitness test at camp? That smelled fishy then and smells even fishier now.
What kind of fitness/running test do they run where you tear a groin or hamstring and/or aggravate at sports hernia? I thought it was just wind-sprints in a certain period of time - and that is straight ahead running, with no cutting and planting and twisting etc....
Bottom line, is that if the organization is truly relying on this player to be a huge part of this season or the future, I think they are a bit nutty!
I liked the old Rat, and how he played undersized for years, but something has changed with him and/or his relationship with the team, and nobody is telling the truth about the situation now.
Not a great situation for the team. Tough on a young coach like Garrett to deal with crap like that.
Curious to what the hell happened here.
Anyone remember scissor-gate with Irvin and I think it was Everett McIver (the oline guy, who almost had his jugular severed by Michael?)....
This Rat stuff is some WEIRD stuff. Maybe being paranoid, but it really seems he wants to just let it all out about how he feels about injuries, rehab, etc and how things are handled at the ranch..
It's too bad, Rat would be a resurrected Glover in the 4-3 for us, if healthy and happy......

This!
