He had outplayed that contract.

We can say it looks bad in retrospect but we got Ratliff on the cheap on his first long term deal which he signed well before the rookie deal expired. If you want to keep getting guys on the cheap (e.g., Lissemore), you need to show that you will address deals if the player exceeds expectations.

There is no such thing as outplaying your contract, unless he plans to give back money now that he's not playing.

It was a terrible contract.

I have a suspicion that Ratliff wont play a down for the Cowboys ever again.

And I wouldn't disagree with you.

Got his money and went in the tank.

Hope you invested it wisely because this will be the last you get!

Drop him, Giants will pick him up in a heartbeat and destroy us with him.

Sounds good to me. I actually like his foul attitude, everybody can't be happy. I also like his attitude, he's been helping the younger players throughout TC, he doesn't want to be a disstraction as he just stated, yes he's unhappy with something but he's still falling inline and putting the team first as he gets healthy. I don't need him to be happy, I need him to be healthy and playing. I think he's working toward that the best he can.

First time we've ever agreed on something. +rep.

It was a terrible contract.

His previous deal was laughable in terms of what we got out of him. We signed him to 20 mill for 5 years at the end of his third season. He went to the probowl 4 times during that extension.

Had we waited a year or two until he was a free agent, it would have taken a ton more money to sign him.

If you want players to sign early contracts for modest salaries - that is deals before they hit free agency, you have to be willing to adjust the deal if you get more than you paid for.

Or, you can just be an @#$@!#$ and say "tough, you signed the deal, live with it." Of course, that means you are going to be much less likely to have other players sign those early deals.

Jerry Jones said his hope is that Jay Ratliff will be an All-Pro this season. Also said it's too early to call contract a mistake.

When does he ever admit blatant mistakes?

Did they admit they blew it not signing Waters when they had the chance two years ago?

Has he admitted the debacles of Marion Barber and Roy Williams?

Felix Jones? Mike Jenkins? The entire 2009 draft ring a bell?

He just hopes that enough time passes and people will forget.

Some of us don't.

Also, people think his deal is terrible b/c they see 7 years, 48.6 mill. 30 mill of that is for 2014-2017. He clearly isn't going to see that money. So really, we got him for 3 years at 18.6 mill. Obviously, he is not earning that at all but those sort of deals aren't going to kill your cap

He looks like a retired ex-NFL player in that suit. smh.

He's gotta be 30 lbs lighter than his pro bowl days....

I don't know why he didn't rehab at Valley Ranch, but I find it hard to believe the team would lock him out, when they have so much money invested in him.

Where's all the folks who said that DL was a position of strength this year? Ratliff and Crawford out.

Tbh noone ever expected Brent to be in jail. Crawford out for the year. and Ratliff on PUP. If we had those three players we might be downright dominant on the DLine

We knew about Brent before the draft. We knew about Ratliff before the draft to the extent that he's a malcontent. At least Jerry and crew knew about Ratliff. Jerry figured he could nurse the relationship along and we're seeing how that panned out.

The Rat will play this season, with bad intentions! The trap is set.
