Hitch is a perfect backup and Nzeocha/Wilson are upside plays.

I would've liked some more competition at the position as well but I like that the team took the BPA instead of reaching for any position. It just so happened the BPA was a DB 4 times. The team knew this would be the case going in. Can't really underestimate the heck of a job this team did in the draft/offseason.

Consider Jalyon a 2017 pick and our defense just got shot up with steroids and young blood. Hoping to see something from that side of the field this year.

For the folks remarking about a lack of depth... This defense only uses 2 linebackers the majority of the time...
Yep, would like us to bring in another Safety that we can bank on. Losing Church and Wilcox will sting.

I would take a 2 year flyer on Jairus Byrd. Dude looked like a potential hall of famer at one point.

Then either Rashad Jennings who has another year or two of solid ball in him. Nothing great.

or the Dolphin, Abdul-Quddus. Has been a stud when on the field, injured all the time - we have a lot of those guys. He is like Sanders lite.

May take a flyer on all 3 if we could make the contracts work tbh, between all of them we and our rookies we would be fielding a solid to good secondary.

Don't overlook the kid signed from the Bills.

He's a capable starter IMO.

He has some upside, but on a one year deal if he realizes it, we won't get to profit off of it for long.

That is why Jairus makes some sense, get him on a 1 year, 1m prove it deal with a 1/2 year extension at 3-5m a year. He doesn't have anything better on the table, and if he puts his heart into it we could steal a top 6 safety in the league

I don't see them going in that direction... At least not before training camp. They'll wait and see what the young guys bring to the table.

That is a mistake in my opinion, but you are likely right.

Buying low on someone like Byrd now, giving him the offseason in a structured season to get back in shape, that is how you give someone a second chance, that is how you build loyalty, that is how you give Jairus Byrd the chance to become Jairus Byrd, which is how we can land a guy once compared to Ed Reed and Troy Palomalu for next to nothing.

If putting that star on his head doesn't light the fire and passion within, nothing will.

Unlikely, but possible, and I hope we do the unlikely in this case because my money is on it paying dividends big time.

Right or wrong, they're going to give the young guys snaps. In addition the 2nd round CB has also played some safety.

I think they'll be OK.

I think they will be ok too, but do you not agree with the notion of going against the common NFL trend of absolutely ignoring people who have had the limelight and messed up?

In my life, and I am low 20s, I have seen people screw up big and come back better than anyone in many different scenarios. People don't often get that chance in the NFL.

I want to see Byrd succeed, he let the money and the fame get to him... Truthfully speaking, who here can truly blame him? You sign a 52m contract when you come from modest means and every girl in every city knows your name -- harder to comprehend not taking advantage of it.

I live near Buffalo and Bryd played darned well with the Bills, but was pretty lousy for the Saints.

It could be he's lost enough speed to no longer be effective.

He's 30 and each of these guys age at different rates... He could simply be past it.

Even in your old age now, still a name chaser. Just say no to Byrd. Our safety depth is okay right now. If I was going for a guy, I'm probably waiting for cuts at this point. Frazier, Woods, and Blanton are going to get fired up trying to compete with Heath.

LBs totally dependent on Jaylon. If he's healthy, we're more than okay there. Nacho showed some things last season, if he can improve then Hitchens, Wilson, Nacho behind Lee/Jaylon is actually pretty decent. We also have 2 UDFA for camp.

Like Mike said (hehe), we only run 2 LB most of the time.

I've been wondering lately where Jaylon would have been taken had he been allowed to enter this year's draft and what teams know now of his medical.

I am still likely one of the 5/10 youngest users on the board, haha, 22 never hurt too many people.

Byrd had one bad season, give the guy another shot.

Could entirely be the case, but he isn't going to be commanding much money, the deal will be on our terms. I give him another shot if I were picking 2-3 guys to take some flyers on, which we should do given the current FA lot.

Cutler/Byrd/Hodges

Plus a WR of some sort - Cruz, Boldin, most likely Floyd.

Maybe even I'd take a flyer on J. Gordon with a very team-friendly 2 year deal. In fact if the team has faith in making it work, I pray it happens

There were LBs, RBs, TEs, QBs and OL that the team liked in the draft.

The board just never lined up to select those positions.
Absolutely correct. Very smartly the Cowboys let the draft come to them. Just so happens it fell right where the biggest needs are. But they were only a pick or two away from drafting in the positions you listed a few times.
