Jaylon and the draft

I am still likely one of the 5/10 youngest users on the board, haha, 22 never hurt too many people.

Byrd had one bad season, give the guy another shot.
Byrd was bad the second he went to NO and was always overrated in Buffalo.

To bring more perspective to this discussion, our third safety last year (Wilcox) played 52% of defensive snaps. Our second LB (Hitchens) played 55%. Our third and fourth LBs played 26% each (Durant and Wilson). Which was only slightly more than our fourth safety (Heath) at 23%.

We need three good safeties more than we need three good LBs.

Asked if they didn't draft a LB because of Jaylon Smith or because of their depth at the position, Stephen Jones says "both."

what Depth? we have no depth at LB.If Lee goes down we are in a world of hurt.

Dallas will have depth a LB. If Lee goes down yes it would hurt because you will not find any backup the quality of Lee because there are none in the NFL.

You can do that at any position, if you lose a stud player you will not have another just sitting on the bench.

Nzeocha has shown nothing yet, dont see how we he can be counted on to perform. We are hanging our hat on Lee being healthy and Jaylon actually playing NFL football. We will see how this goes in TC but it could be our only weakness in terms of depth.
No, but he increases the probability that they have the position covered. He looked terrific physically in the preseason and then got injured. He really needed the preseason experience that he missed.

Lee and Jaylon are the target starters. Wilson, Hitchens and Nzeocha are options to player MLB or WLB if one of them can't play. Wilber and play SLB if Wilson is need at MLB/WLB. The SLB only played about 10% of the snaps last season and maybe even less this season considering all of the DBs they added to the roster. They have 6 players for what is basically 2 positions.

Jaylon is a natural WLB. If Lee goes down (heaven's forbid), Jaylon is there. He's more of a will than a mike
I've been saying people think too highly of Smith but whatever. That has always been my issue when I saw his tape. He's not a MLB

I think he can play the mike. But, definitely, his best position at Notre Dame was at the WIL, Guru

I am incredibly hyped for this kid.

Thanks for explaining. Your posts make more sense now.

We all know Pi.

We will see. If he lives up to the hype or close to it my season expectations will skyrocket

It'd be really nice if he can take another big step forward this season.

A lot of this on the LB corps comes down to Jaylon and his magic nerves. If he's back and can play at a high level, we'll have a flexible and (mostly) young LP corps. If not, we're going to be looking for this year's Durant at cut-downs.
That's pretty much spot on.

He played both. On nickel looks he was the mike and either way he took on blocks. Blocking schemes keyed off of him much like they do with Lee.

Lee ended playing the Mike for plenty of snaps too. They try to hide him behind the 3T but motion is a common function in NFL play calling. They also flipped the tackles presnap constantly exposing the WILL to the weakside guard. The two LBer behind the line need to be able to do both roles.

In that same vein, Wilber and Wilson at SAM would have to take on the responsibilities of the RDE.

Haha, a few people here know my real identity. You'd be surprised.

Regardless, my opinion isn't emotional in the slightest.
We've had famous people here before.

Unfortunately they were just famous in their own mind.

One guy sent in plays that were used by the Cowboys.

Listen man, I have over 12k posts here spanning a decade and have taken a fair amount of BS, but this is uncalled for. I have an opinion and mine is evidently different than yours.

If I were famous, I would be screwing up my job. Discretion is key with clients.

Explain to me why taking almost no risk at all on bringing Byrd in is seemingly such an insane notion

I don't care about your Byrd opinion.

You claimed to be famous.

Maybe you really just meant that you changed your user name and that some people know your old user name. Did you post at The Ranch also?
