Man it sucks, this is not about his injury, the guy has no clue how to play LB at all. Never seen anything like it. It makes me sick, good kid horrible football player

Jeff Heath is much much worse. And certainly no one can play as bad as Green did yesterday.

Then maybe with time the knee will heal more and inform the head. Those medical pros who said all Smith can hope for was 80% healing may have been right.

Some said that, early in the process.

But the nerve is at least 95% now, the knee is 100%, and his head is lagging way behind.

He has had plenty of time to learn his assignments, but it seems he's always out of position.

He appears to just be playing instinctively, rather than reading and recognizing. That may have worked as a freelance athlete in college.

Needs to be playing up to expectations next year, or be gone.

This is not a physical problem.

I think it is both. Like I said before, he's actively getting out of his lanes to avoid head on contact with rbs. There's no reason he should be anywhere near Hitchens, let alone getting in his way. He doesn't have full confidence in his drop foot and doesn't want to risk another disaster injury, but it's cowardice at this point, if it hurts the team

I saw Jaylon literally run in the wrong direction on a run play. Stop the madness.

This is the type of play that the average viewer watching the QB or the person with the ball exclusively misses and can lead you to believe he's not terrible. Jaylon CONSISTENTLY (I mean greater than 50% of the time) washes himself out of running plays leading to an untouched RB into the secondary. This happens 10-15 times a game if Lee is out and Jaylon is taking heavy snaps.

Even 5-6 splash plays from him (which he's not getting, obviously) wouldn't offset how detrimental these types of plays are in terms of preventing the defense from getting off the field.

It was a terrible pick, and a big mistake to think he was ready to be the backup MIKE and a consistent contributor this season.

aside from him maybe being slow due to the knee. the guy is running to the wrong gap. broaddus says jaylon is just way over aggressive and takes himself out of plays too much. plays out of the scheme. he did mention dallas should play hitchens at mlb and have lillard play weak vs the eagles. i’m down for that as long as we limit jaylon. he’s just not ready...

ima lose my mind if i see jaylon start at mlb next week. you’re basically deciding to play philly with 10 players by choice.

I have watched a few highlights of him at Notre dame, and have to wonder if this reminds anyone else of Roy Williams fighting through this leg injury.

Didn't see the big deal about Jaylon at Norte Dame before the injury and wasn't a fan when we drafted him in the 2nd round and wanted to take A'Shawn Robinson or Chris Jones to beef up the middle of the defensive line. Both Robinson & Jones has been solid from day 1 with (Lions & Chiefs)

Meanwhile Dallas has a 8+ page thread on Why TF did we gamble yet again with our 2nd round pick, like we're playing with house money.

Never understood the Jaylon smith hype either coming out of college. Also, once Smith would get blocked, he pretty much got knocked out of plays or ineffective.

His strength was good speed - outside of that, I'm still baffled by what scouts saw in him. They must have thought he could develop mentally, because other than that, I have no idea where the praise came from. He lacked instincts as well.

Really?

He flew to the ball, made plays constantly in the backfield, and could put his hand in the dirt and rush the passer.

The guy was an absolute stud.

He was a total lock to be a top 5 -8 pick.

I mentioned "flying to the ball" - Did you watch anything else? How he got dominated by blocks? How about getting faked by every play action or "read play"?

Hell, there were games where I saw he didn't even notice the ball was even snapped. There are a lot of "top 10 locks" that baffle me as to why they are in the top 10 - actually, a lot of "top 10 talents" are questioned by fans and the fans turn out to be right.

I don't think Smith was a terrible college player, I simply didn't see the superstar talent. Makes it worse that he got such a serious injury and it only made him drop a round.

His problem is not just his injury, he is mentally not there and those same problems could be seen in college. A lot of this is not new.

This is not an injury problem - I have no clue what he was trying to do here. There is no explanation for it. Not only did he try to clog up the wrong side, he even turned the wrong direction mid-way through the air to avoid where the play was going.

If you knew nothing about this guy or this team, you would think they fielded a blind person. He looks like the Trent Richardson of linebackers.
