He should be on IR. They are doing him a disservice, and he's doing the cowboys a disservice by pretending he's ok.

Yet both he and Gregory were lauded as HOME RUN hit it out of the park 2nd round picks. No more gambling on high picks trying to strike gold only to end up stepping in dog sheet instead. We need to draft players that can not only play,..but PLAY NOW.

You would be singing Jaylon Smith's praises if you ever saw Mike Junkin play linebacker.

I used the word 'play' in a sentence containing Junkin. I crack myself up sometimes.

Another burned 2nd rounder:angry::banghead:

Just dating back the last 5-6 years, the opportunity cost of all of these 2nd round picks is mind-boggling

it's one thing to go for the fence in the late rounds, but 2nd rounders--especially high 2nd rounders--have enormous value.

Wouldn’t call him worst ever but he is playing pretty horrible right now! The leg is an issue but overall, even with a bum leg, I’d expect some instincts to kick in and for him to have his nose in plays. But the only time I ever see him is 15 yds downfield going backwards. Yesterday to start the second half the Falcons had a 17 yard run and I guess you can say he was in on the play but only because he got blasted and pushed back into it

This is Bobby Carpenter all over again..

Worse. Bobby didnt really shy away from contact,.... he just couldnt GET THERE, or made contact in the wrong place...LOL But this guy? This guy avoids it like the plague. There was a specific play against Denver, someone posted the gif after the game where he literally dove into a block by one of the Denver w.r's to avoid making contact with the Denver running back. One of the most embarrassing things I have ever seen on a football field. No idea how you ever recover from something like that as a player. He literally just tore his own balls off and willingly handed them to Denver on that play. Been a eunuch ever since.

I heard somewhere that the 2nd round is Jerrys pick, don't know how true that is.

I agree. This is why I gave Ro McClain so many chances before I wrote him off. The guy was a monster who sought out contact and delivered punishment on every tackle. I need an animal in my MLB, a guy who is edgy and on the verge of a mental breakdown. A guy you wouldn't want to get mad. Jaylon is a puppy dog. I need a pit bull who was raised the wrong way. I need violence.

He is looking bad right now and may never pan out...however he is far from the worst player I have ever seen on this team.

Rob Petitti - did what he could be he was out of his league and should never have been forced into a starting role as a rookie.
Chaz Green - This past game might even rival some of the games Rob had all rolled into one.
Bobby Carpenter - at least Jaylon has an injury and lack of playing time over the last couple of years to fall back on...Bobby just sucked.
OT Alex Barron
Brodney Pool FA Safety that was so bad that it made Jason Witten Yell...Get this blanking scrub outta here...he was cut a week or so later.

I am pulling like heck for Jaylon to improve, however, it was complete hubris by Jerry Jones and the front office gambling on a player with the injury he had when the team was so desperate for talent on the defensive side of the ball.

The Jones really want to look like they are smarter than everyone else. They usually fail.

Risen actually liked the selection of Smith, and he doesn't like anything

Go back to the draft thread from that year and read the 1 guy (Me) pointing how bad Jaylon is taking on blockers and dealing with traffic...his struggles should have been obvious to see coming. And it’s not the leg either...that’s not helping, but he’s always had trouble if he wasn’t kept clean and perfect.

I just wanted to add, Atlanta can't use this game as proof that they're 'back', same way Denver moved it on us and have been terrible since. Playing with one less player is really detrimental in the nfl

You weren't the only one:

https://cowboyszone.com/threads/im-not-getting-the-jaylon-smith-hype.348704/

"I've heard people hyping him up as the next Ray Lewis or Patrick Willis, but I just don't see it. I've also seen people call him a heat seeking missile. Again, I don't see it. You'll notice a theme here. He hates to get blocked and dances around blockers more than I like, which takes him out of plays. There isn't a lot that jumps off the screen here to me. When you watch Myles Jack, he jumps off the screen."

This might be the worst thread that's ever been created.
