Sturm has pointed out the same thing several times. He whiffed exactly the same way on the first screen to Cook too.pretty easy/lazy to clip one play and attach it to overall ability
That's not a whiff. We just went over this. That is maintaining outside leverage and defeating the block to force the carrier back into the flow of the defense. One thing he definitely does is try to tackle high.
Also on the play let’s note LVE whiffs too.
Our LBs have been very disappointing this year.
The Akoye video on youtube speaks to your point and makes you depressed over LVE lolIn the spirit of spreading the love around watch how long it takes for LVE to commit to the ball carrier. It's almost as if he expects play action so he's sitting back almost 5yds off the LOS.
People have been sucked in by the 3 or 4 splash plays he makes a year. But that is what fans do. So I can't be upset with fans. Lord knows Jerry loves fans like this. But the PROFESSIONALs over in that building. The coaches, the scouts, the front office...they should NOT be fans. And for FAR too long...the person with the MOST influence over this organization....is a FAN!!!!!I've tried hard to be excited about Jaylon, but I've just never seen what so many were praising him for.
Is your assessment factual. Because I have to be honest...it sounds like you are making excuses for this guy. You are telling us that he is COACHED to overrun plays? They coach him to error on the side of over-running the play to the outside.
His assignment to to cut of the outside path and then attempt to make the tackle.
Generally the deeper defender are to the inside. If he misses the tackle but redirects the RB inside, then the chance of help being available is much higher.
This type of play has happened too often for it to be an accident that he always errors to the outside forcing the cut back to the inside.
The bigger issue is that he had to move a significant distance to get there in the first place and nobody had slowed the RB down. LVE also had to come from too far away and had to navigate around multiple OL.
The DT (Is it Bennett) can make contact with the RB there but didn't. When the RB is a known threat on screens, the DT should bump him in that situation. Also, the DT didn't get his hands up when the QB started the throw.
There were scheme/coaching issues on that play and a couple of issues with the DT.

Watch Jaylon get super-blocked with a simple shove on Mattison's 17yd run. Credit to xwalker for the link.
