Same thinking as you. He simply wasn't ultra quick or ultra fast. I couldn't for the life of me comprehend why he was so well regarded.

And then our resident LSU fan, Boutteman, was against the pick in a big way.

Mo was the hoopla pick no doubt. What I fault this org for was not doing better homework. Mo quite simply did not have the measurables to be that good. I'm well aware that measurables are not everything, but as w/ a QB's arm strength, there is a point where the player has to have a certain amount of physical ability.

Take away the scouts' gushing, and Mo's scouting report read like a 3rd round pick.

To the extent that it wasn't just pattern matching with Peterson, the hype was on the INTs, and associated "ball skills". The evidence of which, from college tape, is going to be dependent more on circumstance than skills. If you're on a great team with a great pass rush, like Mo was, you're likely to get a lot of easy opportunities.

What should have been a *huge* red flag was Mo "blowing off" the Wonderlic. Screams of a dumb player trying to hide his stupidity, even from himself. Dumb is bad. Evading evidence of your own weaknesses screams of denial of them, which is death for development.

And that's the way it turned out with Mo. He was living in denial, for years still thinking that he was all that, until we declined to take his 5th year option, and the league showed no interest in picking him up. At that point, he seemed to get it. Said he "just wanted to get better and contribute". Then he started making progress and improve.

I'm glad that he's making a career for himself with the Jets. Got a 7mil contract this year. I really thought there was a good chance that he had turned it around when we finally let him go.

I’ve posted it before - guess who one of the guys taken after Morris was? We faced him last week?

That’s right - Luke Kuechly.

We needed a change more than LB. We were already bad against the pass. Had to draft a can they thought could help.

But it wasn't one scouting report. I'm sure they didn't all say Deion, but the consensus everywhere was that Mo was worth the 6th pick. I think we had him as the 2nd best defender of that draft.

We were the only ones who made the Dieon comparison. He was probably top 10 on most boards though. Even so, we never had him in for a workout and should have passed.

I remember several Zoners red-flagging Claiborne over his Wonderlic score of four.

I thought the lights had come on for him and he was playing very well during Zeke and Dak 's rookie year - until Sean Lee accidentally took him out.

Not to mention. That at the time Claiborne wasn’t seen as a risk at all. Claiborne was a very very highly rated prospect that really didn’t have any questions coming into the draft.

He just has been injury prone in the NFL. But there was no way to know that while he was in college because he wasn’t injury prone in colllege.
Obviously, the front office should have contacted Miss Cleo before making that pick.

Mo was not exceptionally quick or fast coming out. I read tons of scouting reports at the time. And bombing the wonderlic is part of the evaluation. Even if he did it on purpose, that points to a major character flaw.

Morris Claiborne was widely considered the top CB and a top 5 pick coming out of college. Wonderlic scores are not considered very important for cornerbacks. I have yet to read any report questioning his quickness. He did run a 4.5 40 at the combine, but played faster than his 40 yard time in college. He rarely got beat deep. Most draft experts considered him to be a shut down CB. Morris Claiborne never developed in the NFL, because he couldn’t stay healthy.
