So I get why they cut him right now. But, what is the hit for salary cap for next year by getting rid of him. Dead money? Cap hit? Savings?

It's 6.8 million in dead money for 2022, but saves about 5 million in 2022. The real concern was his injury clause if he continued to play limited snaps this year and got injured his 2022 salary would become guaranteed. If the team was planning to move on from him and got injured this season it would put a strain on next year's cap. In hindsight they could have saved a lot just cutting him before March this year, but until Parsons was drafted LB was a big question mark.

So if the defense plays much better this Sunday. Was it because Jaylon was not out there. Which I am sure many will state that.
Or because Danny Droppings is just not that good. :muttley:
Or maybe it is because Garrett Sucks! :lmao2:

And let's just be honest: we knew it was a bad contract and he wasn't going to play up to the dollars associated with it.

I'm just glad that we faithfully stuck by the sunk cost aspect vs. continued down the road of forcing a guy to get reps and play just to save face.

I think the LB play was poor last year, but until the draft, they didn't know for certain it could be improved rapidly.

Yes, they drafted for the future, as they did not know how Jaylon was going to be, and same for LVE. His health and play.
This will end up being a good move. As Jaylon was going to be gone anyway in the off-season.

Just curious, How has Smith played this year?

Is it true that when the Giants beat Dallas in the last game last year in Dallas, that Garrett stopped his offensive players from lifting him up and carrying him off the field? Have you heard that too?

I think Jaylon has played ok this year, making a few key plays and stops. But no where near his 2018 season. To me he looks much slower than 2018. and seems to struggle running and keeping up.
I have not watched him specifically during games, so really can't comment to other plays. But many on here have, so will need to go by some of their opinions also.
His release does not bother me.

if some other team claims Jaylon, will they be responsible for the money Dallas owe him this year? or if he signs a $2 million contract with another team, will that offset what Dallas owes him?

Uhmmmmmm could someone tell me why Jerry or Stevie would let that clause in the contract - thats the point of the $35 million he had guaranteed. If anything it should have been reversed - the team should have gotten "an out" if he got hurt.

Football is a rough sport, players get hurt hence why football contracts are not fully guaranteed, but they do get about half that is guaranteed - so why the other $9 mil - maybe I'm missing something.

Lots of contracts have injury clauses
It’s pretty common

NFL ....not for long league....now we see if this team is mature enough not to let this become a lingering cloud.

Archer said we couldn’t have cut him this past year because of his wrist surgery.

It's just part of the negotiation. If they didn't include that protection, they'd have to increase the total money or the total guarantee.

Not sure how accurate this is, it was reported all off-season the Cowboys had to make a decision on the 5th day of the league year on Jaylon. We would probably need to see the actual language in the contract, because injury is a broad term. Especially because it didn't cause him to miss time last year. If it was an elective surgery I can't see that impacting the clause if he didn't miss games in 2020. Normally those injury terms involve more substantial injury assurance, or ones that cause a player to miss significant time. Archer should get a copy ;)

Jeez. Like every single article on this explains this clearly and in great detail.
uhm... then why the hell are you reading this thread?

Maybe I should start another thread kissing Big Mikesarse,
or maybe another thread on how great Dak is.
